By the time we arrived at the Lodge we were pretty knackered! We are reasonably fit (well we thought we were!) but the Timber Trail is a bit of a challenge tho well worth the effort. Paul from Epic Cycles (highly recommended) made our booking along with the Timber Trail arrangements. The Lodge is rustic, comfortable and Maria is very...

This is a hard case bush motel. We rode the 6km extra to get there which in itself was a mix of trails between open flowing and metal road to pine forest tracks. Note there are some nasty little rises in this. The accomodation is eclectic. Redeeming features include a huge cooking oven and kitchen, pool table, bar, waterfall and...

Unreal accommodation, grounds, facilities and food. Great bed and hot shower. Owners were super friendly and helpful. Must stay if doing the Timber Trail - well worth the extra 6kms each day :-) Only improvement would be if they had a farm dog running around.

First thing you notice is there is no cell phone coverage which in my opinion is great! After a hard first days ride on the Timber Trail we arrived at the lodge exhausted. I did read the reviews about the 6km trek from the 35km mark so I was ready for the uphill which was very pleasant going through a...

We stayed in the Shearers Quarters, bunk rooms with on suite bathroom. Great communal areas for cooking and relaxing. The grounds and buildings are filled with old farming equipment all set out in interesting ways. Fantastic short walks in the grounds to see the bird life and the waterfall and swimming hole. Make sure you get up before dawn to...

WOW! What a magical spot this is. After a fantastic, but really knackering MTB ride from Pureora to the lodge (half way down the epic Timber Trail) we were so happy to have booked The Forge bunk house for our group. Super comfortable, really well equipped and immaculate. With the added bonus of walks along the beautiful Ongarue stream, glow...

We stayed at The Forge for three nights to ride the Timber Trail. While booking and checking in were all handled efficiently we were a disappointed to find that the room wasn't particularly clean and there was no heating. Yes, it was Summer but it got down to about 8 degrees overnight so everyone was cold every morning. Given the...

We stayed 3 nights at The Lodge while cycling the Timber Trail. I found that booking went smoothly and my emails were responded to within 24 hrs. Information on the website and in communications was a bit sparse, but the surprises we had were all pleasant ones. The setting is simply stunning and we felt very privileged to be staying...

Timber trail stopover and this place was one of the highlights. So remote and stunning surroundings, even the ride in to the lodge was spectacular and well worth a bit of uphill to reach it. I could spend days at the property exploring all the hidden gems, so happy places like this still exists. The hospitality was superb and rooms...

if you are overnighting on the Timber Trail this is a must stay. this is an old fashioned slice of kiwi hospitality stuck right in the middle of nowhere. The owners, Maria & Keith make the place with their warm hospitality and dry humour. The lodge itself is an old style lodge comprising of a couple of buildings, a wing...
