    Lovely location
Loved the tree house feel of the rooms. We sat on our balcony with a drink surrounded by tree ferns and birds. All of the staff were lovely and very helpful, but like many places, they were obviously struggling with a lack of staff. The guest laundry was very useful. $10 for use of the washing machine and tumble dryer (including washing liquid). It took about 1 hour 40 which we spent by the pool. Food choice in the restaurant at dinner was limited, but that meant that the quality was excellent. Breakfast options included fresh fruit, yoghurt, pastries, and hot choices (eggs, bacon, sausages, hash browns).
Dear JH1_9, We very much appreciate your comments regarding your stay at the Grand Mercure Puka Park Resort. It is always a pleasure to receive positive feedback. I will share your comments with our team. I am sure that this feedback will serve as an encouragement to all of our staff as we strive to continuously improve the quality of our services. We are so lucky to be in the nature and share the space commonly with all the natural habitat, the placement of the villas are unique and serenity is just non comparable. I am glad to hear our staff were able to enhance your stay and experience. Thank you again for sharing your experience, and we hope your next visit will be as pleasant as the previous one. Sincerely, Rajat Sharma General Manager

    Lovely retreat with stylish feature
This stylish Resort is centered amongst forest trees reaching up a steep hill. Rooms are in luxurious huts spread over the are. They feature a terrace, a stylish bath with shower and Manukka Honey amenities, coffee and tea making facilities with fresh milk available in the otherwise empty fridge and a totally comfy bed. The atmosphere is quiet and relaxed. There is a wonderful large pool, dem and sauna (the sauna seems not be used too often, the light bulb inside didn‘t work) as well as a tennis court. Breakfast is a choice of continental, full or a la carte. When the weather is fine it can be enjoyed on the large wooden terrace adjacent to the restaurant, overlooking the mountains and part of the bay. Imhad the wonderful eggs Benedict with salmon and spinach one day, the Belgian waffles with berries and cream the other day (couldn‘t finish them...). Dinner at the restaurant is an early affair and you should definitely book in advance (i‘s over at 9 pm), latest orders taken at 8.30. The restaurant is very popular with the locals and the are very few other options in Pauaanui. Service can be a bit slow, don‘t expect too much knowledge about the wines on the list. But the food options were all great, be it the steak or the seafood (although I had expected a larger variety of fish and seafood, being right at the ocean). The Chef certainly has lots of international experience and does blend different styles using fresh ingredients and regional products.

Beautiful spot tucked away in the native bush
My husband and I stayed in one of the one bedroom chalets for our 10 year anniversary. We LOVED this spot. Very private, well appointed little chalets. The kitchen facilities were perfect and well thought out, the bed was soft and comfortable, the bathrooms were amazing with really nice toiletries and underfloor heating. This was a huge bonus as it was miserable weather, and we didn't feel up to lots of wet and windy walks. We opted for the Breakfast included in our stay and the breakfast was very nice, the serving staff were very friendly and attentive. We ordered room service for dinner in Lieu of eating in the restaurant, and the staff were always very accommodating, considering they had to drive the food up a steep hill, and climb a few stairs to deliver it every time we ordered, just so we could laze around in our chalet. The receptions staff were always super friendly, and helpful. They would go out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed. Over all this was a lovely experience, we would definitely book here again and it is totally worth every penny we paid.

What an amazing locale and wonderful experience. The accommodation units are spacious and comfortable, and we especially loved the many windows which brought in the spectacular forest views surrounding our unit. With both kitchen and laundry facilities as well as a comfortable bed this truly felt like a home away from home in a little slice of paradise in Pauanui!

The service was among the best we have ever experienced and we travel a lot. Heather and the team went above and beyond for us re advice on walks around the area, booking restaurants and showing us the dinner menu for the resort restaurant. One of the team gave us croissants and jam with our morning coffee. Every single member of the team was friendly and went out of their way to give us the best they could. Heather in particular was outstanding. The menu at the restaurant was a bit restricted but can understand that due to staff shortages post covid and being in a remote area. The service more that made up for that. The rooms are as expected, remote, quiet and perfect for a relaxing break. Would consider staying again as the location is fantastic.

We enjoyed our stay amongst the trees at this lovely resort. Everything very clean and operational. Staff were almost trying too hard to please, some trainee staff a bit nervous but all helpful. Some things they didn't have like ingredients for cocktail and hashbrowns for breakfast but overall the food and drinks were great. Cedar hot tub was lovely after a day of hikes.

We were these as a group for a bar and dining experience, with the rugby in the bar as a extra! It has been some time since we were at Puka Park and throughly enjoyed the evening. The King Fish was a beautiful meal. Venison initially over cooked but management sorted this for us. The whole night, atmosphere and service was great. Will definitely be back and would really look forward to a more quality wine list.

We stayed here for a week. The staff were fantastic, so accommodating with whatever we needed. The amenities are well looked after. There was a new spa pool too, very nice. We were here in the low season. Plenty of privacy due to the placement of the lodges. The bar is cool, restaurant is very nice - menu was a little bit repetitive for 7 nights, but high quality food and still worth it.

Heather at front desk, Danyelle in the restaurant dinner service provided exceptional service. I would suggest to have an alternate menu for guests staying more than 1 night and to add vegetables as side dish selection. Overall the food and presentation and taste was excellent. Thank you Chefs. Housekeeping team did a fabulous job with cleanliness of the room too. Well done and keep the good work.

Puka Park Resort has long stayed as a special place in our hearts and as we have seen over the last two weeks it continues to hold its place. The arrival: We were greeted by lovely staff at reception who gave us a warm welcome and made us feel at home. The entrance was nice and clean which let us know that the place was kept in pristine condition. Upon our arrival at the restaurant, we were welcomed by the lovely staff who made us feel nice and comfortable and treated us to a few drinks at the bar. The whole place as well as the Hoehn Lounge was nice and relaxing, making us feel like we were back at our second home. The food: We were surprised by the small amount of options for dinner but were quickly reassured that this is all part of the plan as they aim to change the menu daily. We were also told that the restaurant also plans on reintroducing a fixed menu in the near future so we are interested as to what may make its way on there. The food itself was great and very enjoyable to eat. We don't have much else to add there. The restaurant: Service was great as we were very well looked after by the great staff by making sure that we were very well attended. We were surprised on all nights by how fast the food came out and yet it showed no signs of being rushed out. "Wonderful" is the word I would use to describe my experience in the restaurant. Finally, the room: We can only repeat what has been said time and time again about our room, "Perfect" is the only way we could describe the room when we entered it for the first time. Being nestled away in the bush allowed us to enjoy the nature while not hindering us in any way. Upon opening the door, we were greeted by a great, well kept and very nice room that was extremely welcoming and gentle. Everything was in pristine condition so we could really soak in what we had experienced. We were presented with a nice cheese platter and bottle of wine upon entering the room which made us feel special and appreciated by the team. I would like to extend our thanks to the housekeeping team for making such a great room. Our experience in a few words: Great place, great service, great staff!

Tucked away high in the hills - I do mean hills(!) Stayed here with my family (6 adults), gorgeous location and great place to relax and dissociate from the world for a few days. Incredibly friendly and accomodating staff - every experience was a good one. We ate at the restaurant one night, food was nice with large portions but a limited menu given the shoulder season. Between the 6 of us, we had 3 rooms so were able to cook in the in-room kitchen most nights - not all rooms have a kitchen. All rooms are well appointed, rather than luxurious - the interconnecting room (the room with the kitchen/laundry) had a pull-out bed which wasn’t ideal but apparently comfortable enough. While we were there, we used the gym, pool, sauna, tennis court, and the complimentary bikes. All were great. We booked for 7 nights but left after 5 as the hotel is far away from many attractions and limited restaurant choice in its vicinity. Overall, we’d return during the summer. The staff are an absolute highlight and it’s a gorgeous location. Thanks team Puka Park for having us!!

The property is located in a small town with very little nearby. Therefore, you're pretty much committed to dinner at the resort. They claim the menu changes daily but we were there for 3 nights and it was the same 3 or 4 offerings everyday. Housekeeping was a bit hit and miss and the spa was not working. However, the GM Rajat was excellent as he tried his best to compensate us for the shortcomings. Also, Gracie at the front desk and Nico at the restaurant were fantastic. Overall, I'd recommend giving this property a miss and staying somewhere closer to the action in Coromandel, such as Waihia.
