My husband and I booked the Hansel and Gretel cabin for a weekend anniversary getaway. It’s a long haul and we were tired when we got there. We met the owner, paid up, and were assured there were lots of artifacts and fossils in the creek that runs through the property. He led us to a cabin which we didn’t figure out until later was not the one we paid for. The names on the cabins are written in Gaelic, so it’s hard to tell which is which. We paid the nightly rate for the Hansel and Gretel cabin but were given the first cabin in, which is one of the “twins” and the most basic cabins there with a rate of $20 cheaper a night. We used the pictures on the website to figure which was which and deduced that the H & G cabin had been overbooked since someone else was obviously staying there and the owner has no problem doing a bait and switch on his guests. As for the cabin itself, it’s the most rustic/ basic I’ve ever stayed in. It did have nice cold a/c. There was an acceptable kitchen area if you cared to cook. The downstairs is all one large room. There is no tv or wi-fi. The beds were fairly comfortable but my husband felt something crawling on him. It’s very sparsely decorated. The bathroom sink howled when we turned the tap on. There is a nice play area for kids and a petting zoo that we didn’t visit although we could hear a donkey braying.. As for the fossils/artifacts, we walked up and down the (dry) creek bed looking but only found big pieces of shale rock. If you’re planning on spending most of your time at Patoka Lake, White Oaks cabins are fairly close, but if you’re spending your time in French Lick, it’s a good 25 minute drive and there are plenty of cabin rentals closer.

We stayed at the waters edge cabin. It was very serene. Our cabin was equipped with everything we needed, creating a wonderful place for family time. Bob was very welcoming making us feel right at home. We will definitely be back!

My boyfriend and I have stayed here numerous times, each time as amazing as the last. It doesn't matter whether you have a large family (the best playground ever and tons of hiking, AND a petting zoo!), are a couple wanting to get away (hot tubs or jacuzzi tubs and privacy), or are naturalists wanting to discover new things (mississippian fossil beds, migratory birds and tons of native flora and fauna), this is the place for you. And you. And also, you. The host is phenomenal and you feel like you're at home. Do. Not. Pass. This. Up.

This trail is very popular with wildflower enthusiasts, especially during April and early May. To get to the TH... head towards Cades Cove. About 5 miles from the Townsend wye, towards the cove you will see a fairly large parking area on your right. This starts the Schoolhouse Road trail which leads to the WOS trail. Schoolhouse is an old ride so wide and easily hiked but does have some uphill. At 1.1 miles the Turkeypen trail enters from your left , continue ahead for 150 feet and the unmarked, but very obvious WOS enters from your left. A maintain trail for April and May. Follow the trail for approximately 1.5 miles and it will lead you down to the Sinks. The Sink area is flat with many types of spring flowrers....bring your flower book. Please stay on trail while visiting. When you leave the trail is much tougher because now you have to climb out of the Sinks. But when you reach the top of hill it then is an easy hike back to car. Enjoy

My husband rented a cabin for our anniversary,He did a wonderful job choosing your location. It was peaceful & cozy. Cell phone service was enough to check on kids & that's all I needed. We laughed, snuggled, went for a walk, talked and took random naps..(and momentarily decided to live here - but we might miss the kids). We definitely went off of your map, not google :) Look forward to our next anniversary visit. Thank you for building your dream for others to enjoy as well!
