Dragon Cay Resort (Formerly Blue Horizon Resort) is a unique tropical destination tucked behind 2,200 feet of naturally preserved beachfront on Middle Caicos, the largest but least developed of the eight inhabited islands in The Turks & Caicos Islands. When you stay at one of the private Cottages or Villas at Dragon Cay Resort, you will be immersed in a privacy and tranquility not common in today’s Caribbean Resort landscapes. The natural beauty of Mudjin Harbor will bring you to a place of utter relaxation, while the adventurous environment, recreational activities and local culture keep you entertained and active. Worth so much more that a day trip!

Dragon Cay is definitely a hidden gem of Turks and Caicos. If you’re looking to rest and get away from your busy life for awhile, this is where to go. It’s secluded, and away from grocery stores/shopping centers. So if you love nightlife or shopping, this isn’t for you. And a rental car is a MUST. However, if you like peace and quiet, do it. I’ll list my pros and cons of the place. Pros: the staff is phenomenal, always asked if I needed anything. Ms. Evelyn, the host, messaged me almost everyday to check up on me. You literally feel like you have the whole island to yourself, and the Mudjin harbor just takes your breath away. Local authentic food is delicious. The water is so clear, it’s unreal. The sunset is majestic. Loved the rum punch pitcher from Ms. Evelyn upon arrival, so delicious. Cons: mosquitoes, please bring bug spray. I stayed in the sunset cottage, and there was an ant and roach issue. I notified the staff, and they gave me a strong bug spray (which worked for a few hours, but then the ants returned again). Marilyn (I believe she’s the manager) regularly messaged me to make sure all was fine, was also going to have the place sprayed by a professional. But by then, it was already time for me to leave. I noticed that someone in the reviews below complained about bug issues in the same cottage, so maybe it’s something that management need to fix for the next guests. Out of the whole trip, this was the only issue that was cumbersome. Another con is that if you’re going during off season (which I did), most restaurants will be closed. But that is why they ask that you buy groceries in town. Overall, I had a good experience. The peace, quiet, beautiful water, and the kindness of the locals made my trip so much better. I will return with my family next time. I would give it 5 stars if it weren’t for the bug issue.

It was a pleasure to have you here with us at Dragon Cay. Please be assured that we are addressing the bug issue in a serious way. Now that the storm has passed, we are inspecting every inch of every cottage for any potential damage as well as doing deep fumigations. We know you will not have this same issue on your next visit!

We stayed at the Solstice Villa in September and it was an incredible trip. It is a journey to get to Dragon Cay but it’s well worth it. Upon arrival, the staff were friendly and even made a pitcher of rum punch they left for us in the fridge. They provided a 5 gallon jug of filtered water which was very helpful. The area is secluded and the beach is basically private since the area is so isolated. There’s a friendly black cat who would greet us each morning and evening on the front porch. We were told we could use the laundry facilities below the house but never ended up needing to. I often will opt for a more all inclusive type experience but I’m so glad I decided to stay at this more secluded property. This is definitely on my list of places I would love to visit again!

Thank you for your wonderful review of our resort – and our peaceful island! It is truly a special place for those looking to get off the beaten path. Glad you got to meet Anthony the Cat – she has been welcoming our guests for years now. We are so pleased that would consider coming to stay with us again. We hope you will.

I just left Dragon Cay Resort and on my last night in the Sunset cottage a swarm of flying roaches were on the ceiling. Evelyn the house lady and her husband can’t and sprayed so much roach spray there was a visible mist. As Evelyn coughed while sweeping up dead roaches she told me it was okay to go back in and stay in the cottage. I refused. She then had me start in another cottage where there were dead roaches on the floor, sufferably hot because no air was running and no curtains on the windows so anyone could see in and it was pitch black outside. I’ve tried contacting Marilyn Robinson to no avail. She basically told me ‘oh well’ and ignores my attempts at communicating. Evelyn says I should get over it. That’s not all. Marilyn’s husband sister, Mary does the vehicle rentals. Besides the fact the vehicle rental I had had no radio the entire four days I was there. I asked Mary every day, for four days for the remote and each day she claimed to have forgotten it. After sleeping on the couch in that dirty cottage, the next morning as I turned in the rental Mary verbally abused me because she felt that I should put more gas in the vehicle than what was in it when she gave it to me which is why I took pictures. Mary screamed at me, screamed that I was dishonest, a cheat and a thief. Had I not been so shaken up I would have recorded her rant at me in front of all those people. In addition, Evelyn made me feel obligated to take her to the ferry two days straight, 45 minutes to an hour drive each way. I traveled alone and was taken advantage of and still am because I cannot get any help about this situation. Marilyn will delete this message and block me again but people should know how nasty, rude, and unprofessional these people are Dragging Cay Resort. Here’s the video of the flying roaches all over the ceiling.

Middle Caicos/Mudjin Harbour are not like the Provo style crowded resorts. The tranquility of the island make this an amazing experience for small groups, families or couples. Stayed at the Solaris Villa, a three bedroom home that had plenty of space for all to enjoy. On the first evening be sure to catch the sunset at the prayer hands overlooking the dragon to the east and sunset to the west with incredible unobstructed views of the pathway along the coast leading to sunset. Night time brings some spectacular stargazing so if you have a travel scope bring it along! Because Solaris like all of the villas have a kitchen or kitchenette, it offered us the chance to start the day off with coffee and a huge dose of relaxation. Inside the coolness of the air conditioned villa or on the outside deck in the warm ocean breeze to start the adventures. The Dragon - Nature's wonder that draws on the imagination! Wonderful to explore from the sea, just be sure they are calm since the seas can bring about interesting currents that will bounce you around a bit but always push you to shore. The dragon has a sandy beach during the low tide but I suggest avoiding the temptation to climb the jagged rocks that will end a spectacular day early. Secret Cave - Just to the west of the praying hands the stone set trail will end at the hole in the ground entry and stairway to this little hidden gem. Fun and safe for all ages. Then back to the serenity of the circle of the praying hands for another incredible sunset. Close by and accessible by walking or bicycle is Indian Cave. This unusual cathedral type cave is accessible and available to explore since everywhere you explore there's natural light and an exit. Which also serves as and entrance for mosquitos so bring along the spray. It's the Carib so bugs just come along with the beauty. Conch Bar Cave is further down the road if you have a car or reasonable stamina for biking. It is gated for preservation and safety, operated by the National Park System. The fee nominal but you need to have cash for admission. Also worth going to is Bambarra Beach, every visitor's favorite but the Dragon Cay Beach was definitely mine. Have a jeep? Visit Wild Cow Run Beach, however it is a long trip on a rough road for just another private beach. No cows, just a lot of beach. Again, Dragon Cay's Beach is my choice plus the Mudjin Harbour Bar & Grill are always within walking distance. Love the Caribbean spice infuse burger! Bike riders can also journey the shoreline trail past the Secret Beach entrance. It.s a mountain bike trail with great scenery and stops along the way. You can take it all the way to the blow hole which i don't recommend the extra walk from the trail. It only blows during high tide and heavy surge, plus it seems like the entirety of the seas trash and plastic collect in this natural cove. Bring good closed toe beach or sneaker type shoes for exploring. Otherwise its toes in the sand for complete relaxation.

We stayed in Sunset cottage. A charming little cottage reminiscent of an old fashion beach house. Sunsets were lovely from the screened porch. No see um were biting terribly while we were there especially after the rain each day. The property was very quiet during our stay just one or two other cottages occupied. Unfortunately most of the north and middle Caicos island beaches were hit hard by sargassum seaweed while we were there making them impossible to swim in. If you like quiet time alone this would be perfect.

It was a joy having you here with us and thank you for your wonderful review. We agree this is the ideal destination for those really seeking to get back to nature. The seaweed has been heavier than normal this month – it varies greatly year to year and is impossible to predict. We hope the beach will be clear on your next visit!

Spectacular views, secluded turquoise beaches, wonderful staff, clean and quaint cottage (we stayed at Sunset for 6 nights) with ac and a screened-in porch perfect for stargazing. We had the beach to ourselves most days, and never was there a crowd. We never needed the bug spray we brought, but had it just in case. The restaurant had great food and drinks, and we also used the bikes, kayaks, and went on a hike on Crossing Path Trail to the blow hole. There was a lot of ocean plastic along this trail, and the blow hole did have saragassum covering it on this day, but we saw flamingos, sweeping ocean views, and many birds, lizards, butterflies, and some flowers. We ventured to Bambarra Beach which is magical-highly recommend this-words cannot describe this place. We ate at Windsor Creek Cafe there-delicious! We also went to My Dee's restaurant on North Caicos-amazing food here too. We cooked most of our meals--got a few grocery staples on Provo (meats, salads, fruit, etc.) then hit the small stores (closed on Sundays) on North Caicos for the rest for your meals, drinks, and snacks at the cottage. This location is a secret gem- it was like a dream. We hope to come back.

This resort is an oasis. The views are stunning, the cottage was perfect, the staff were friendly and helpful, and the location was quiet and peaceful. We were looking for somewhere to spend some quiet alone time as a couple and we found it! With so many places to go in the world, we generally don't plan to return to a place a second time but we both agreed that Dragon Cay was somewhere very special and we would love to return. Plan to buy food on North Caicos as you travel to the resort so that you can cook breakfast and dinner for yourselves (full kitchen in cottages), lunch at the grill on property, or in North Caicos while exploring for the day.

It is a bit of a trip to get to Middle Caicos but once you are there you will never want to leave. The scenery is spectacular. Don't expect too much to entertain you (no clubs, bars, restaurants for dinner) - (you will need to do this on your own - mountain bikes/beach bikes available, hiking, exploring the island (caves, beaches), traveling to the other islands - plenty to keep you busy depending on how much you want to do.

Can’t say enough and I haven’t ever left a review before. Mudjin and Bambara beaches were essentially private, and at the height of the season. Staff at Dragon Cay were great; Evelyn and Robbins provided whatever we needed. Robbins delivered complimentary bikes, but not your typical cheap and worn out cruisers. These were Specialized carbon fiber fat tire bicycles that were bike shop rental quality. We were also provided great foldable beach chairs. We stayed five nights, longer than we had planned. Evelyn then set up super convenient Covid testing as well for us to leave. To get this kind of peaceful experience it is either much more expensive or much more inconvenient to get there; truly unique to get so far away from a huge tourist spot with such a short ferry. Spoke to several people who had come for the day, and each said the same thing, that they wished they had known about this place, as it wouldn’t have just been a day trip.
