I picked this Hotel because it was close to the M74 and yet away from the main, quite noisy road. Ecclefechan used to be on the main road and I remember it as a really nice friendly village. Anyway, what a nice surprise when I walked into this very traditional boarders hotel. A nice smell of an open fire and... More

I am fast becoming a regular at this hotel and it is easy to see why. The rooms are a good size, warm and with comfortable beds and a television in each room. Although improvements are being made, these are not intrusive and you would not be disturbed by any noise at night. The breakfasts are also wonderful with the... More

Another stop off on a long trip and I was very pleasantly surprised. After about 7 hours driving through snow, hail, rain and wind this was like an oasis of calm and warmth, Roaring fire, friendly locals and big rooms. A wonderful bedroom in a quirky (in a good way) old old hotel. History oozes from the stone work. The... More

Was made to feel very welcome, good food, good bar, good music from Joe on his guitar and a real fire. Mary and Joseph were fantastic hosts and the newly renovated room was excellent. An absolute bargain and I'll definitely return for a longer stay.

Occasionally I travel to Aberdeen on business and often require an overnight stay near the border to break up the return journey. The Owner and staff were friendly and the rooms spotless, stylish and spacious - they are in the process of updating all the rooms. The village is quite quaint though did not see in best possible light due... More

We stayed at the hotel last week, we were travelling south from the North of Scotland and decided to break our journey. We are so glad we stayed at this hotel. Although at the moment the Hotel is being refurbished, it was not a problem. We were greeted by a friendly young lady who showed us to our room, lovely,... More

After being let down at another hotel we managed to get three rooms at late notice at the Ecclefechan Hotel. The rooms were spotless, the staff exceptionally friendly and the breakfast well cooked and presented. All in all I would thoroughly recommend a stay in this hotel.

As part of our Thomas Carlyle quest, (he was born in Ecclefechan) We arrived at the Ecclefechan Hotel and were warmly welcomed by Joseph who told us that although Mary was out, he had room at the Inn for us. This warm and happy Irish humour continued throughout our two day visit and we were treated extremely well. The breakfast,... More
