We don’t mind sharing a hotel with families as we have three sons plus grandchildren ourselves. We arrived on the 30/10 and back home on the 7/11, Torrox Costa/Playa itself doesn’t have o lot of character and in the main has many apartments within quite large blocks, situated along the sea front. By contrast Torrox Pueblo/ town situated in the hills is a delightful charming place with a lovely square surrounded by cafes and restaurants and typical narrow streets, and houses. On the plus side the coastal part where the Malaga Playa is situated has a lovely beach as far as the eye can see, a flat promenade possibly 2 miles in length, along which there are many restaurants and cafes and chiringitos etc.the hotel has a large gate just beyond the pool so guests can walk straight out without crossing any roads. The Hotel itself is quite impressive with nice foyer and with various areas to sit out whilst having a drink, the pool area is very impressive and there appears to be plenty of sun beds, although the hotel wasn’t full whist we were there so guests during July and August may differ in their opinion. We had a room overlooking the pool and sea beyond, south facing. Our room was adequate, bed was comfortable, bathroom had a bath with good shower and the screen worked well, no water all over the floor! which is usually the case in most hotels, however the bidet was badly positioned right in front of the toilet. The room had a fridge but very little else, except reasonable wardrobe and hangers and a comfortable chair. All round the hotel there are water stations, where you can fill your flask bottles etc with cool filtered water. The dining room which is massive is also quite noisy, it would have been nice to have use of a quiet corner or separate room for older and romantic guests, we personally like to take our time over an evening meal, but realise we are in the minority. Food and choices were quite varied, unfortunately hot dishes were only luke warm, fruit juice, smoothies and coffee at breakfast need improving. We were all inclusive and I must say the drinks on offer were good, there were the choice of 4 white, 4 rose and 3 red wines. 4 different gins, 2 Brandies, 3 or 4 whiskey and rums and a decent vodka, San Miguel on draught for the beer. The staff predominantly Spanish are all smart and extremely professional and helpful.

First and highly probable the last time with Iberostar to live a family and Kid’s experience. Comî On the company website, we can read :” In Star Camp, the only thing impossible is getting bored. If you are planning to travel with children, Iberostar makes it easy for you.” I would shorten and tell In Star Camp (the name for their kids club) the only thing impossible is making it easy for you…. Coming one week, the activites are sometimes easy to do at home (pumpkin cutting we just did 1 week before at home, drawing or painting…). Staff is young but end of October seemed non-motivated for some of them, despite their smile and energy. /!\ /!\ And please note there is NO staff for kids after 31 October…disappeared with Halloween ghosts 👻 /!\/!\ CLUB MED has no competitor and can sleep well for decades on that point. So no possibility to organise excursions or activites with adults as a full time service for kids doesn’t exist at Iberostar (at least in October). The marketing bla bla bla on their website is not clear. Booking with kids, we would have been appreciated that the reservation staff would have highlighted it before booking. In addition, our 4 people bedroom with 2 real beds and 2 people sofa. The sofa was so uncomfortable that our 10 year old daughter got pain in the back and neck. We slept for most of the week 3 people with the 2 real beds. Other service is in the average no more (food, snacking, night shows…). No partnership with Golf ⛳️ of the region. The only super thing is the building and it’s location at 20 meters from the see. As Oscar Wild said: “ Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars.” ‒ Oscar Wilde. Then you have Iberostar…please try to target upper stars, as you can’t shoot the moon. We have probably misunderstood the level of services form Iberostar. That was our 1st experience… Adios.

Dear guest, Firstly, thank you for sharing your opinion about your holiday at our Iberostar Malaga Playa hotel, perfect for families. We are sorry to hear we were unable to satisfy you completely on this occasion because comfortable rooms, exquisite gastronomy and impeccable service are some of our main hallmarks and our staff are always happy to assist our guests with any doubts and enquiries they may have. Regarding Star Camp, we would like to mention that we offer a variety of activities based on the theory of multiple intelligences, playgrounds, Aqua Fun, a mini disco and much more. We, therefore, regret if this was not the impression received, and please rest assured that we will pass on your observations to the departments concerned for their revision, as the well-being and satisfaction of our guests is our priority. Again, we thank you for your valuable feedback and hope, despite this, you were able to take some pleasant memories home with you. We wish you all the best and hope to see you again soon at one of our hotels worldwide, located in the most beautiful destinations. Kindest Regards, Quality Manager, Iberostar Malaga Playa

A great hotel. Staff, rooms, food and drink all top class. Only downside was we found the pool too cold this time of year. Special shout out to Blanca who took the morning yoga/Pilates class. Enjoyed the saxophonist entertainer too. Halloween tunnel was brilliant for our last night.

Excelllent hotel. Lovely location if you want a quite break. Nicely designed hotel with a Italian feel in design. Staff are some of the best I have come across. Friendly efficient and very helpful. I thought the food was excellent. We were all inclusive, which we thought was good value. Drinks were of reasonable quality and service was excellent. Orders placed on tablets, were delivered to your table in minutes by other staff members.I didn’t have a single complaint. Here are a couple of things you might find useful. If you want a full pool or beach view you will have to pay extra. Apartments are side sea view only.Standard rooms look out over adjoining property or a car park. . Out of main season these are not busy and didn’t cause us any issues. Area is quite tidy and a ok view. The car park has a market on Mondays which starts around 8.30am. There are no kettles in the room or apartments. Tried to get one at reception but none available. There is a safe in the room, charge of 3 Euro a day. On arrival a credit card is required to cover any charges. The hotel is cashless apart from reception. You sign for drinks etc on a tablet and are billed at the end. You can hire pool towels, you pay 15 euro per towel deposit at reception and are refunded at checkout. You will need to produce your receipt to get your refund. Towels can be changed up to two times per day by the pool no charge. You can get currency at reception, 2.5% charge.

What a brilliant hotel and customer experience. From the grand entrance to the fresh chilled water machines around the entire complex, this was a delight. We stayed for 10 nights and the food was excellent throughout our stay. The highlight for me (and looking around, many other diners) was the seafood special evening. Fresh oysters served with Champagne, giant prawns, calamari, mussels (either in or out of their shells) it was heaven! The food on the other nights was good and there were Vegan, Italian etc. evening too. The evening entertainment was a little hit and miss, but it must be difficult to find good entertainers for a range of nationalalities, ages, tastes etc. The one member of the entertainment team that stood out a mile was BLANCA, this girl worked all hours, entertained the youngest child to the golden oldies with Yoga, Aquafit, darts, cocktail and soap making, bingo and many more. All this in 4 different languages and remembering guests names - Amazing!! The pool area was spotless and a life guard always keeping a watchful eye. Thank you Iberostar for providing a great chill out 10 days holiday.

The hotel staff was nice and friendly. The location is very good. More efforts on the gastronomic side are needed (more variety, more attention to cooking on the spot rather than cooking large quantities and leaving the food drying on plates or the stove)

My friend and I had this trip planned for quite a while and were really excited about checking out this area of Spain. I'm an Iberostar member, and had always gone to the resorts in Mexico before which have member areas. I knew this was not a "member" oriented hotel, but we did get a few perks. The good? We had booked a sea side view room, and were put in a room with a great view of both pool and sea. The room was little (supposedly two beds), but actually was two single beds making up one king bed. Finally figured out that is a European thing, and beds were comfortable. The resort as a whole was spotless. Miguel at the Front Desk was fabulous; very helpful and kind. Having been to other Iberostars, I knew what to expect with the buffet. We were very pleased with the food, although not so much with breakfast. However, since both of us are vegetarian, that probably contributed to the issue. We never had problems at lunch/dinner finding great food to eat. We had booked the all inclusive and were happy with the variety of wines/cava and beers available as well. We didn't use the spa, but did use the indoor pool, sauna and fitness center. All were really nice and we enjoyed them. We did see entertainment one evening in the lounge; it wasn't real professional, but we enjoyed it just the same. The outdoor pool and pool bar were really nice, and the grounds were spotless. The boardwalk outside the hotel gate was a great walk and lots of fun to check out the area. Now, the bad. MOST of the staff was fabulous. However, since we are two older women traveling together, we didn't have great service from some staff. I did notice that most people there were either families or couples. At any rate, the host at the buffet bordered on rude each day we were there. Neither of us speak fluent Spanish (although I'm learning and tried as best I could), but he only spoke Spanish to us and got aggravated when I didn't understand what he wanted. Very frustrating! And, there were two men in the Snack Bar area that had horrible hygiene: one wiped his nose on his hand and then proceeded to fix coffees, and the other kept coughing and then didn't wash his hands. Seeing that, I didn't use the snack bar after. Ugh! Finally, I had called the hotel the week before arriving to find out about transport from the Malaga Airport to the resort, and was told to take a cab, as they didn't arrange transportation. So, my friend and I paid over $100 for a cab, and when we arrived, were then told that we got the wrong information; apparently, they could have arranged for transportation for us to the hotel for about $65. So, as much as we enjoyed our stay, I probably wouldn't return.

From the minute we stepped into reception we were impressed by the cleanliness of the hotel and the efficient staff. We even upgraded to all inclusive since we arrived before lunch had started. For some reason I thought parking was free but they actually charge 20 Euros/day. No problem as there is a large free parking lot next to the hotel to use instead. The receptionist even let us know about it rather than trying to push the hotel parking. We had booked a sea view suite so when we went up to our room we were greeted by the tiniest suite I have ever stayed in. Tiny bed that was at most a full sized, tiny television smaller than my computer monitor, all packed into a tiny bedroom with an adjoining sitting room and bathroom. You could barely make it between the end of the bed and the desk that was in front of it. The balcony was quite spacious with easily enough room for a couple of sun loungers but all it had was a tiny table and 2 tiny chairs. It also had a solid wall so you couldn't see the view unless you were standing up. There was a safe in the room but it had no instructions on how to use it, only a slot for a card. I put our room key in the slot and locked it with nothing inside to see it worked properly but once it locked we couldn't get it back open. Once we got settled in we went down for lunch. As far as I can tell there are no a la carte restaurants on site, only buffets. The food wasn't anything even close to the standard we expected of the hotel but the staff stayed busy efficiently taking away our empty plates and cleaning up empty tables for the next guests. Their special of the day was hot dogs that were closer to raw than properly cooked but kids loved them anyway. The beer on tap was cold. The rest of the meal was totally forgettable. We checked out both pools. It was too hot in the room where the indoor pool was so we went outdoors as it was a beautiful sunny day. The water was a bit cold but bearable and there were plenty of sunbeds. After a nice swim we retired to our room for a nap on the small, uncomfortable bed. At supper the food was different but no better than lunch quality-wise. Very surprising. We went for a stroll along the promenade after supper and waited for the evening entertainment. The entertainment was up to the standards of just about all of the entertainment we have seen since moving to Spain 6 years ago: not very entertaining. After about a half hour of listening we went up to the lobby bar, which had a football match on the television. I asked the bartender for a drink menu but he said we had to scan it with our smartphone as menus were no longer offered, part of their efforts to reduce waste. Not even one? So essentially if you have no smartphone no service. Fortunately we did have one so I ordered a beer for myself and a mojito for my wife. No straw for the mojito but he did give her a spoon. We moved to an outside table and enjoyed a pleasant evening. Breakfast was the worst meal of our stay. The coffee machines all had lines so long we opted for juice instead. We are here near the end of the season so I shudder to think what this place would be like in July or August. We were going to take another swim before leaving but my wife was so tired from a poor night on the bed that we packed up and left early. All in all a huge disappointment. It is really strange how a hotel with so many good staff and run so well could be so blah at the same time. We won't be coming back or recommending it to friends, which makes me feel sorry for the wonderful people there.
