Front of hotel is lovely. Well situated in the centre of Matala for shops, beach, tavernas. Matala itself is just beautiful - still has that feeling that something special occurred here. Room was clean and comfortable. Added bonus was the hammock in the verandah. Suited us just fine.

Extremely friendly family run hotel in the middle of Matala. Rooms very clean and showers are divine with its high pressure water. Only thing that we missed, would have been having a kettle in the room but the staff was more than willing to fill out thermos up, so no problems really. Tasty generous breakfasts and a good selection of...

Matala still has a hippie feeling and Hotel Sofia fits perfectly into it. The bar/reception area is lovely and the staff very friendly. The shower was the best shower ever, not even boutique hotels matched it. The room itself, very basic, hostel like, ok for one night only and that's why we booked it.

We booked Sofia as our flight came in at 10pm. The bar was open and we had a great late supper, the room was clean and air conditioned. The reception staff helped us get a reasonably price rental car. We returned a week later to drop off the car and left our luggage, got great tour advice and were able...

While staying in Crete during the off season, we chose one of the few places that were still open, Hotel Sofia. This choice proved to be a good one as the place was lovely. There are some things I would change (beds and bathroom), but everything else was the perfect Greek Island vibe. The beach is a short 2 minute...

Hotel Sofia in Matala that feels like home The hotel Sofia is located in Matala center just a minute away from Matala beach and its caves, a supermarket, many souvenir shops, cafes and excellent taverns. Bus station and car hire are just around the corner. The beautiful red beach can be reached within 20-25 minutes hiking trail over the mountain...

We spent a week here because our usual Matala hotel was fully booked. The room was OK and the staff perfectly friendly, but the shower had a mind of its own, going on and off for no known reason; the fridge froze our milk; there was no kettle and no possibility of getting one. (We ended up buying a travel...

This is a typical beach hotel for the smaller towns. Sophia is located right off the Main Street along a quaint thoroughfare. The staff here (Rhula) are super friendly and helpful. If your an on spending extended time on the sites of Phaitos and Gortyna this is a perfect place to stay. Be aware that the beds are small and...

I've stayed here for two nights. The room was very small, which means you have no space to open your suitcase. Furthermore the beds where really hard and the shower was lousy with a dripping beam without pressure. Positive is that the room was clean and staff friendly and that it's near the beach and centre of Matala.

The owners are so friendly and made us feel so comfortable! We drank together many Rakis as well. This hotel is 1 minite far from the beach, restaurants and shops. It was really clean and the yard was amazing.
