Our linens had hairs on them as well as the floor. Needs a lot of updating. The toilet was noisey as well as the rooms— we could hear everything in the hallways and beside us. This hotel’s saving grace is their pool area& proximity to the beach. You get what you pay for.
This hotel was the first of three we would be staying after our transAtlantic arrival and so we elected to go a bit less expensive than the others. It turned out not to be worth the savings. First the positive. The front desk agent I dealt with genuinely tried to help. After my first night was a disaster, he moved me into a new room that addressed nearly all my concerns, but it added a couple of new ones. The location of the hotel is fantastic, being just by the beach and Matala’s great shops and restaurants. We really liked Matala itself. The property itself is a bit run down but has great bones. With a bit of investment into rooms, facilities and services, it could be a jewel of Matala. But not yet. Checking in I was given one of seven rooms with an entrance straight outdoors. I am not referring to the balconies, which all of the rooms seem to have, but rather the main entry door, which was a frosted glass. This will be an important point, as I’ll note later. The room was small, but appeared to have been fairly recently refreshed and had a nice enough. I immediately noticed that the safe instructions made no sense, and after three trips to the lobby they still were not able to tell me how to use it. The TV also didn’t work — in fact I could never get the TVs to work at this hotel. The shower was rainhead and worked just fine that first evening. After dinner I was able to get to sleep fairly easily and woke up with the light through the door telling me I had slept through the night. Oh no. It was only 11:50 pm. The problem is that the frosted glass entry door on this particular room (and probably the seven others with frosted glass entry doors) lets light through and there is a massive outdoor light on the building across from it. Unable to sleep I was at least able to watch a movie through wifi that first night. I tried to take another shower but there was no hot water, either in the middle of the night or later in the morning. Mercifully I was moved to another room without the glass door problem, which solved that problem and this safe was easy to use. The TV didn’t work in this room either, and the wifi barely ever worked. Later I was told the hotel committed only to providing wifi in the common areas, which in 2021 is a bit weak. Beyond the room itself, the pool area was OK, as was the breakfast. There was a good range of breakfast items, but they got a bit repetitive. Oddly they didn’t have oil and vinegar for the salad items. Breakfast didn’t open until 8 am, and with no kettle or coffee maker in the room or coffee available in the lobby, you have to wait until 8 or go across the street to the cafe kiosk that opens at 7. I’d seek other options before staying here and would be very particular on which room to book if I did. But to Matala itself, which is intimate and charming, we’ll definitely come back. Hopefully by then, someone will have given this property some love.…
We booked this hotel last minute as we needed a hotel in the area. Kids loved it. Plenty of space for them to run around playing ball. Nice pool table outside and a good size swimming pool with lots of toys for the kids to play with. Very good breakfast for the price. I would recommend this hotel and would come again next time we were in the area. Very friendly staff too.
This is a solid 3-star hotel. The rooms are clean with a balcony. The bathroom is quite small and the shower curtain doesn’t quite work to keep the floor dry but it’s clean. The location is great, quite close to the beach. There is a pool which provides a bit of a private oasis from the nearby tourist rush. The breakfast buffet, which is included, is quite extensive but the coffee is from a self serve single cup machine and is almost undrinkable.
Adequate free parking. Reception did there job, but the welcome could perhaps have been warmer. Room was a decent size. Small balcony, but room to sit out on. Did tend to flood as the waste pipe from the A/C was broken (I noted the same comment from another guest). Bed was comfortable, and was quiet at night. Decent shower. Adequate storage, although as we were only 3 nights, lived out of cases. A/C worked well. A little loud, but as the temperature on arrival was 36C then it was having to work quite hard. Breakfast was OK. Eggs always done perfectly, but the rest of the selection was a little bit limited, but adequate. We did not eat any other meals here so cannot comment. Pool was clean, and big enough for the size of the hotel. Only about 100mts from the very nice Matala beach. Plenty of bars and restaurants nearby. Matala is a nice resort. Much smaller, and less sophisticated than the big northern resorts. We liked it, and would certainly come again, and if we did, would be happy to use the Fragiskos again too. Best hotel in Matala, but then there is not too much competition.…
We enjoy our pleasant stay here in Fragiskos. Every meals are tasty and good level. Evening walks around Matala are amazing. Never seen so marvelous picturesc place. We would better hear greek music around the bar and pool, it's why we came here to Creta. Not for global tecno.
It was my first visit in Crete. We were searching for a place where we can have a privacy, with not too many people like in all those resorts, to feel a bit of local atmosphere. Matala is very small village that satisfied our needs. Hotel was satisfying, room big enough, air-con worked perfectly, the only negative was that our small balcony was constantly full of water on the floor due to broken "pipe" from air-con. Room was generally clean but the cleaning service was just very basic, after 3 days there was a dust everywhere. On the other hand the staff was very active when cleaning the hotel area incl. swimming pool, that was really great. Moreover all ladies were very friendly and lovely. As for meal, nothing so bad. We only noticed that some of the salads were not always quite fresh, but we could chose fresh vegetables or fruit so no big deal for us. We did not expect a high gastronomy so food was also satisfying. The only recommendation would be for the restaurant staff. They hardly greeted clients ever, apart of the group of French clients. Some of the meals looked like a "dish hunt" when staff almost "jumped" to take the plates with our last bite. Staff was not much organized and sometimes people were running from one part of the restaurant to the other. All tables for 4 had always a fork and a knife for 2 people only and when we - 3 people - sat into table for 6 (having 4 forks and knifes) we were asked to move to a smaller table. Moreover staff asked this our little daughter not quite a politely. Often there were 6 staff standing in the doors chatting and having fun while clients needed to zigzag among them with plates. whatever could be improved was absolutely compensate by the sea, clean, amazing color, warm, some days high waves...it was just stunning. There are also couple of really nice restaurants with very good long drinks. I still would suggest this place as well as hotel to anyone who wants to spend a nice, relaxing holiday.…
Been here a number of times.Always consistently good, owners very friendly and helpful. Location is within a 100m of Matala beach. Great Tavernas nearby a touch of real Crete. The weather in October is ideal and the swimming is just right.
After a One night stay in Fragiskos I am left with a mixed opinion. Positive points: Huge parking Nice pools Large rooms Near to the beach and stores Great receptionist that was very gentile and kind. Negative points: For breakfast not one of the employees said hi or goodmorning. Just a remark because we sat at the wrong table. I know 7 months of work can be tiring but a goodmorning does not hurt anyone and makes everybody's day better. Dirty floor. Had been washed with greasy water leaving all kind of marks when you walk over it. Toilet had not been flushed from the cleaning lady we found a nice surprise. Spider web in the corner of the bathroom. General hygiene in the bathroom/shower not the best. Bed covers dirty. The rooms had only one large window and was dark on the side without window. The transparent bathroom door??? What's with that?? Can't take a crap in private :-) We also wanted to go out at about 10pm but had a problem with the door not closing. We had a guy come check it out and he phoned another guy after 30 minutes of telephone discussion he came to check it out without any tools therefor making a 5 minute screwdriver repair job a 1h wait. It's the same thing a client in my restaurant says to me he is missing his silverware but I go and check the table without anything and then go back with just a fork and after another trip for a knife. Quality/price not in line with the reality. Thanks again from the Parisian restaurant director. Ps please do not reply to this comment as all the others to check the reviews of other people. As you can see on my profile I have been reviewing a long time so I know my personal opinions and as I told you I have been 15 years in this sector.…
