We had an absolutely amazing time at Fontaineblhostel. The people are great and as a base for bouldering this hostel is perfect. What completes the stay though, is Patrick. He goes above and beyond to help, and even picked us up from Font when our delayed train made us miss the last bus. We are firmly convinced this is the only place to stay on a trip to Font.
Very good camp site. Good location within 15 min drive of most bouldering spots. Very friendly and helpfull owner. Camp site visitors can also use the common room and well-equipped kitchen in the hostel.
Most of the accommodation is in tents which the owner can provide and put up ready for tor arrival (big teepees), or you can use your own. Really good facilities, all very clean. Lots of room to cook and eat, including a big outdoor courtyard. 20 mins from most crags in Font with the Elephant within walking distance. The owner Patrick speaks fluent French, English and German. He is really nice and helpful and was able to give advice and directions for climbing. We would highly recommend this hostel and we would use it again. Bring a splitter though as there aren’t that many plugs available but lots of people charging phones in the evenings! Facilities: Clean toilets and showers Free WiFi Fridges and cooking facilities (hobs only) Plenty of cutlery, chopping boards and pots and pans etc Washing up liquid, soap and sponges provided Cooking oils, herbs etc provided Supermarket 1km away (large and cheap) Didn’t stay in the rooms, we were in tents on the grass at the rear Board games, climbing guides etc all available for use in the common area Several restaurants on the doorstep…
Well, where do I start? We arrived at fontaineblhostel on Sunday, and we’re immediately greeted by Patrick, an absolute legend, the best host any of us have met, what a kind inviting man who will go out of his way to ensure a comfortable fun stay, so a huge shout out and thankyou to our main man Pat! The hostel itself was super clean, well equipped and simply a pleasure to stay at, plus the cherry trees in the campsite area were a wonderful tasty addition, the hostel is located within 15 mins drive of some of the most incredible bouldering spots, and honestly just go! Stay with Patrick in his fantastic hostel and you won’t regret it! Merci Patrick, cest super!
Friendly, welcoming, clean, great showers, everything we could have wanted and more. We found this campsite and hostel by chance when we were turned away from another campsite because we hadn't booked and it was Easter. Patrick was extremely welcoming and found space for us even though both the hostel and campsite were busy. It was a treat being able to camp and use the splendid hostel facilities. You can also hire bouldering mats and bikes and there is lots of information about the bouldering and other things to do in the area. The village is lovely too with a traditional boulangerie near the hostel and a supermarket a short drive away. If you don't want to self-cater there are restaurants within walking distance. I would definitely recommend this place.
The hostel host is the first person you will meet and the last person you will remember. The presence of the owner on a daily basis really makes you feel welcome, he regularly checks on his guests well being and does an amazing job of keeping the hostel tidy etc. This was my first time at this particular hostel and I will look no further when booking in the future. Thanks Patrick!
We camped here in our van for two nights and it was perfect. Where to begin: owner is Super, you can get all the help you need from him, facilities are clean, coffee is on the house and the kitchen is really good for cooking, there are boxes for guests to store dry food and fridge for everything that needs to be in cold, you can eat apples, figs and grapes straight from the garden, the garden is the place where you camp so it's really pretty :) the place also has a long history - ask the owner and you will hear interesting stories :) If you are camping somewhere else the owner also lets people use the sanitary facilities for 3 euros - shower is great... If you come here with a car you just need to check that it fits in to the yard. We were with a camping van that is 2,5m high, less then 2m wide and less then 6m tall and I think anything bigger would not fit in :) We will come back here when we come to Fontainebleau :)…
Really nice hostel and camping site with easy acces to many climbing places around Fontainebleau. Owner is really nice and will make sure you will feel welcomed and will enjoy you'r stay. Common area is big and you will find everything you will need from there.
Patrick the hostel owner is such a lovely guy! If you're coming to Fontainbleau for the boulders (which I imagine most people are) then this guy knows his stuff. He can tell you where certain boulder routes are (of which there are 27 thousand!) And has lots of books to help you as well. As for accommodation he has a lovely gardeny field for camping and some hostel rooms. We did camping so can't comment on the rooms but the ground was nice and flat and it was a good mix of sun and shade. There is a communal kitchen, showers, toilets, courtyard and lounge room and when we were there there was a youth club for a couple of nights and then 2 or 3 backpackers for the next. There's definitely enough space for everyone and the nature of the hostel is to share so people leave their leftover food for each other and share meals which is lovely. As for location it's perfect for getting to the forests (though you will need a car for all but one section of forest which is a 45 min walk). If you're wanting some more nightlife you may wish to find somewhere in the city but near the hostel is a supermarket so you can always stock up on cheap (but very tasty) wine. …
This hostel is in a charming French hamlet called La Chapelle-la-Reine, near the heart of some famous Fontainebleau bouldering areas. A benefit of staying here rather than at a hotel in Fontainebleau is the opportunity to meet up with people who are specifically traveling to boulder the 'Bleau'. The inn/hostel is operated by a fantastically kind and patient man named Patrick. Thanks to Patrick, it is more accurate to describe the check-in process as a full-blown orientation on the best areas to boulder, travel/logistics info session, basically any information that you would need to make a successful trip not just to the 'Bleau' but around France in general. SNCF trains run from Paris (Gare de Lyon) to Fontainebleau-Avon daily and from there buses go to La Chapelle-La-Reine where you can walk to the hostel. You can also call ahead and Patrick will pick you up for a few euros. Facilities are clean, modern and well run. Crash pads are available for rent at the hostel but the "Éléphant" area nearby (30min walk) has sandy/soft grounds with plenty of challenging routes that don't require pads. So no car, no pad, no climbing partners you say? No problem.…
