A great test of a favorite place is how it stands up over time. Beach Dogs consistently serves up the coldest beer in Guiones along with great food!. Smoothies, breakfast thru dinner I’ve never had a bad meal over a long number of years.
I'm glad I only stayed at this place for one night. It's just too expensive for a private room with shared bathroom and only fans. The information isn't accurate as they don't include breakfast. Rooms were clean and comfortable, but having only one bathroom for the whole hotel guests was not the best (they sure have some outside showers but the light bulb wasn't working). By check out time you can't hang out in the common area of the hotel, at all. We were waiting to be time to take the public bus and were literally kicked out.
Worst hostel experience ever, only one room with a/c which wasn't functioning and a broken window that was next to warehouse where people was coming in and out constantly, the owner wasn't around to check on customers and the service wasn't good either. The rooms are extremely small so 3 people is not recommended to stay in one room. They have a "Kitchenette" shared area but no stove in? How are you supposed to prepare a meal without a stove.
I paid $900 for 8 nights at beach dog hostel. It's great if you just need a place to crash and want to surf everyday. You really can't beat the location. I had the only room (of 3) that had Air conditioning and thank god for that. The bathroom is shared by the hostelers and this guy who lives in the back which I didn't know until we got there. you go outside and around to get to it and use a shared key. Also, there are no towels and towels are very hard to find and expensive, so bring your own. Showers are outside which were fine for a quick rinse. All in all, it was ok but I wouldn't recommend it for everyone and if we go back, we prob would stay elsewhere. Also, it's a couple that owns and operates this hostel plus the cafe that it's attached to. The guy, mike, is not friendly so don't take it personally if he doesn't say hi to you. He's just kind of grumpy to everyone and everyone local knows that. His girlfriend makes up for it though, she's lovely. And nice. …
Fun little place, no frills, but very clean and comfortable, surrounded by the jungle! Best of all, it's right next to the beach and attached to the Beach Dog Cafe which serves amazing food & drinks and is the center of local night life. There was live music one night but never goes past 10pm so you can sleep with no problem. Cute patio with hammocks, refrigerator, and outdoor showers. On the downside, I didn't mind that it was basic, but would be nice if they could at least provide a towel. There is no staff on site so you have to arrange to meet someone if you need something. Even though the bathroom is supposed to be reserved for guests, a lot of the cafe patrons use it, so lacking some privacy (especially when it's so humid that you can't lock the door.)
