Surrounded by a peaceful Mediterranean garden, this modern apartment-complex offers plenty of Greek charm. You won’t find a huge resort packed with guests, but that’s its magic. What you do get is a family-run hotel, designed like a small village, set away from the main road, approximately 300 metres to the seafront, along with the good old fashioned Cretan hospitality. Our guests love to chill out and relax at Ourania Apartments. Accommodation at the hotel consists of spacious apartments, suitable for couples and families. And what better way to enjoy the calm surroundings than from the comfort of a lounger? The pool terrace is dotted with sunbeds and parasols, so there’s no need to put your towels down before sunrise. And if you follow the sound of ice cubes clinking into a glass, you’ll find the handy snack bar. If ever there were apartments that prove less is certainly more, welcome at Ourania Apartments...

We have just returned from ourania apartments in gouves Crete . We were greeted by one of the staff and the security guard who helped us to our rooms , it was a very late arrival and they helped us with giving information of where we could get some food . The apartments were very spacious and the cleaning throughout the 2 weeks was excellent . The grounds were kept in tip top condition and the pool cleaned every evening . All staff were attentive , friendly , polite and helpful . The food from the pool bar was reasonably priced and of good quality .which served food up to 10 pm .The pool table token was €1 which closed at 12 to avoid disturbing people that may have settled up . The bar closed at 1 am and had a good selection of drinks . There were two sports screens on in the bar area . Pool side toilets were always clean . Courtesy showers were spacious and clean and in new area of the apartments . Plenty of sun loungers and space to relax . Trees and umbrellas gave lovely shade . Short 5-10 minute walk to the sea front with restaurants and bars . We went in a group of 7 and we all had a lovely time . The area and apartments felt safe for families .

We stayed at the Ourania apartments from the 7th August for 11 nights. We were 2 families of 4. (We stayed in room 106 with our 2 sons, 14yrs and 12yrs). We were absolutely thrilled to bits to find apartments that offer so much! The apartments are typically Greek in design. Basic but extremely spacious. The cleaners change both bins and towels regularly. Aircon for the bedroom and living area is a must! It’s heaven walking into a cooled apartment when it’s so hot outside! There are plenty of sun beds to go around. Both directly around the pool, (with parasols), and covering the surrounding grass area amongst the trees. A short walk from the apartment, in varying directions, are supermarkets and taverna’s. We ate somewhere different most nights, but visited Milo’s twice. (The food and setting was just perfect!) What really makes the apartments though, are the bar service and staff!! The bar provides breakfast, lunch and evening meals, should you wish. We ate from the bar a couple of evenings following 2 long day trips out. We also enjoyed many breakfasts and lunches from the bar. The food is delicious, reasonable and plentiful! During the day you can even buy ice creams/lollies/crisps/nuts/chocolate etc. The pool table is a great asset! Children and adults, alike, enjoyed many games. Either during the day to get a break from the sun, or during the evening. Tokens are purchased from the bar and respectfully left on the side of the pool table to signify who’s turn was next. The bar staff changed from day shift to night shift. They are friendly but respectful. They became very familiar with any regular orders, and were attentive but not too overbearing. One thing to note was how loud the Cicadas are!! Sounds silly, but because the apartments are surrounded by olive trees etc, they are SO loud!! We were used to hearing them in Greece, but it did take us a few days to get used to them!! Overall, we all had a fabulous holiday and felt extremely lucky to have found the Ourania apartments.

We had a really nice apartment with its own little garden. We stayed bed and breakfast, the breakfast was cooked to order by staff who were lovely. There were plenty of sun beds available and we were always able to get one when we wanted. There was also a grassed areas where we could relax in the shade of the trees, away from the heat of the sun. The rooms were spotlessly clean and the resort was well cared for with well tended gardens. We rarely go to the same place twice but we’re we to go to Gouves we would definitely stay at the Ourania.

After seeing such good reviews we booked. Not impressed ,yes it was clean and we knew it was typical greek that's fine but omg the aeroplanes were relentless we counted one morning between 5am and 7am 19 and they fly low . The apartment was a shared stairway so our terrace was not that private had to go out the front door to use it when we actually could as no shade canopy or umbrella so it was full sun most the day.The apartment was so dark as just had small windows very cave like . The living room was massive but pointless as only a very uncomfortable cement bench thing with old cusion on it not even a back cusion . Had to put lights on or open the door to get any light . Bedroom massive but again dark aircon was poor and if you want to use both aircons bedroom and lounge you had to pay for another one. Bathroom was flooded even time used and soap suds just came back up the drain in the middle Needs updating . Breakfast was 9-12 only don't be early ! If you have trips booked your missing it . You choose from menu cooked breakfast was good but we can get this here . No fruit to go with yougart I bought my own everyday no pastry or anything greek. Pool was packed at one point you couldn't see the water for inflatables loungers were uncomfortable saggy and old even our umbrella was broken , moved to grass and shade of trees but the ants were murder my drink was full of ants as no tables or anything to put drinks on. Didn't use the pool again.

Really enjoyed our stay at Ourania and can see why they have repeat returnees. The staff are very friendly, the whole place is kept very clean and tidy and has a very relaxed feel. We stayed in the older traditional style one bed apartments which were simply furnished but had all you need, they were very clean and the towels were changed every other day. Would recommend paying for air con (€6 per day) The pool area and bar are very relaxing and the bar snacks and drinks are very reasonably priced We had breakfast and can thoroughly recommend it, lots of choice, really nice full English breakfast , greek yoghurt with honey, waffles etc to choose from. Very well positioned, only 10 mins walk to shops, restaurants and beaches and it's a pleasant walk along the seafront. You can get the bus to Malia, Agios Niklioas, Heraklion etc, approx 10 mins walk (fairly busy road to cross, bus stop is no. 13) We would definitely return 😊

First time staying & we couldn’t fault the apartment area at all. Bedroom was huge with very comfy beds (note that they are twin beds) bathroom was ample (could’ve done with a shower curtain as whole room gets wet) and the kitchen / lounge area had so much room. One thing to note: you are right on the aeroplane path so every few minutes you get low planes flying over. Didn’t bother us as such but the noise created is worth noting. Cleaning staff did a fantastic job, changing towels & cleaning the bathroom very frequently. Bar had a really extensive menu with great prices, have to say we had little to no interaction with any staff other than the night bar staff (two young men) and a lady who served us lunch during the day. All very polite and friendly. We paid the extra for aircon which was more than worth it. Disappointing that during our check out we were asked to pay again as it hadn’t been crossed off that we had already paid when purchasing the air conditioning remote. Surely it would be common practice to pay before receiving the key / remote?? But luckily, we didn’t have to pay twice. Lovely location, about 5 minute walk from the beach / restaurants / shops. Highly recommend ‘The Cretan Shop’ a few minuets walk away. Pool was kept clean and sun loungers were readily available to place wherever you wished.

Great apartments totally understand the reviewers who return year after year. The hotel grounds were fabulous really well kept, beautiful plants & greenery the apartments are set out so lovely. The cleaning staff were amazing & were in every day emptying the bins, the towels were changed every other day & the beds 4 /5 times over our 2 week holiday they work really hard. The bar staff & manager were really friendly, the meals from the bar were good & well priced & handy to take to your room if you ever didn't fancy going out. We had a night flight & were able to keep the room right upto 9pm for 30E. The safe in your wardrobe was 10E a week & aircon 6E a day. The beds were really comfy, the shower had great pressure & plentiful hot water, you stepped in the shower so had to be careful with the shower spray as there was no shower curtain in our older style apartment. We were in a upstairs 1 bed apartment (202) with a great big terrace so ideal for sunbathing. The kitchen equipment is basic i.e 2 cups, 2 plates, 2 teaspoons etc but the fridge was a good size handy for beers etc, there was a toaster & plug in hotplate. Its 5/10 mins walk to lots of great restaurants, shops & the beach. Everyday we found different shortcuts to places, different walks etc the apartments are in a good position in Gouves. The pool area & grass next to it where you can sunbathe is lovely theres shade with umbrellas & trees but they can get busy & theres towels on sunbeds really early then people not appearing for hours. That said the hotel is lovely the only negative is the noise from the planes they come thick & fast at busy times & there very low & noisy we live on a flight path so are used to plane noise but these are much lower so just something to bare in mind.

What a fantastic find, only 15/20 minutes from the airport. The resort is spotlessly clean with great care and attention given to the grounds. Clean towels and the apartment cleaned almost every day. We had a downstairs apartment overlooking the pool. It had everything you need for a holiday though basic. (Could have done with a shower curtain). The pool had lots of sun beds (Though people mainly Brits find it perfectly acceptable to reserve a bed then disappear all day). The bar had a full range of drinks and cocktails, the food particularly the breakfast was tasty. It’s a 10 minute walk from the beach with loads of bars and tavernas. We would definitely return.

We have just got back from yet another perfect holiday at the Ourania. We had our favourite room, 211 and it was heaven from start to finish. Kostas, stella and all the bar staff and cleaners do a brilliant job and nothing is too much trouble. See you soon i hope!
