We arrived home last night after a fantastic two week stay at Hara Ilios Village. It really is a wonderful hotel. The location is perfect, beaches are just a short stroll away as are a number of great restaurants and bars. The staff are super friendly, nothing is too much trouble. Your comfort is their priority. We were half board and the food was great, there was always a varied choice for breakfast and dinner. The hotel is spotless, everything is clean and tidy at all times. There are hand sanitisers freely available throughout and we always felt safe. You couldn't pick a better place to stay. Thank you to everyone who looked after us so well.

We stayed in this hotel for a week at the end of August.

The location is perfect, near to the road, near to the beach, near to the supermarket. The nearest beach wasn’t really for us, relatively full and with small stones. So we walked about 15 minutes each time to get to one with sand near to Marilena Hotel.

The village is white-blue of course, and very well mantained. But the flowers and the garden, wow…amazing! Full of hibiscus, palm trees, and my new favourite flower, plumeria. All of them were full bloom, just as if I was on a tropical island.

We only had breakfast here, compared to my other stays in Greece it was pretty good. Different line-up every time. They really care about this COVID situation: we had to wear mask, disinfect our hands and wear disposable gloves when picking food.

There were two things that I didn’t really like: one is that the mattress were way too soft, and that they didn’t propely clean the air conditioner so it was stinky.

The area around the pool is really nice, but I have to say that previous comments are right: friends of the owner, inlcuding noisy kids are coming on some days, which can be annoying since this hotel is supposed to be adult-friendly (no kids allowed.)

If it would be possible, I would give a rating between 4 and 5. But I will give the 5, thank you for showing me plumeria in real for the first time 😊

My wife and I visited here for an escape from dreary UK. What a lovely hotel, we have nothing remotely bad to say at all. It was spotlessly clean, covid-safe with extremely polite, helpful and pleasant staff without exception. The room was serviced as and when we wanted it ( due to the covid rules) to a high standard. The breakfast buffet was very good as was the dinner buffet ( only 12 euros per person) Pool area was very clean with plenty of loungers and chairs. Gardens were pretty and well-maintained. A short 2 or 3 minutes walk from the sea front with all its restaurants, shops, excursion offices etc. A 10 to 15 minute walk takes you to the small, main "strip" with more bars, restaurants. An ideal base to explore this part of Crete, the bus stop (13) to Heraklion/Malia is a 10 minute walk away. You can stay in bigger, flashier hotels but if you want a quieter, friendlier place, this is it. Really sad to be leaving. Just a footnote, if you are lucky, you will see a lovely, calico cat wondering aroundaround the hotel. There are lots of cats in Crete but this was the sweetest, friendliest cat we have ever encountered in all our holidays. We named her Helios and at the moment, she is just a kitten. If it had been possible, we would have taken her back with us.

After we visited the Hara Ilios apartments back in august 2022, we couldn’t wait to turn back to this beautiful hotel. I’ll be writing about our first time here (august 2022). We had an amazing warm welcome at the reception with a cool lemon drink when we waited for the key to our room. We got a room upgrade, where we surprisingly had a suite with a private pool! We didn’t book this suite in the first place, but ofcourse we didn’t mind! The second time we came around, we booked a normal room. Obviously it was not as luxurious as the first time, but it was great anyway! The room is being cleaned every morning. The hotel is also very eco friendly giving that they only put clean towels in the room, if you’ve thrown your dirty towels on the bathroom floor. They mention this when you first come into your room as well, to strive for a green environment. We thought this is a very big step to sustainability coming from a hotel!

The public pool was also great and very clean. The bar next to the pool area is provided with tropical cocktails, delicious bites and friendly staff. The hotel is near the coast, so if you rather bathe in the sea, it’s only 2 minutes away from where you are staying! There are a few restaurants close to the hotel, but if you’d rather stay in for the night, you can also dine at the hotels restaurant. The buffet here has a broad range of food, and also has a delicious choice of desserts. As the hotel is not too far located from the Heraklion airport, there are many planes that fly over. We found it really awesome to see these arrive throughout the entire day, but I quite understand it to be annoying to some people.

There are multiple ways to explore the island. To go from Gouves, where the hotel is, you can take the bus at bus stop 13 to Heraklion, the capital city of the island. The hotel also has connections with tour guides that provide excursions to multiple areas of Crete. Not only do you visit the beautiful landmarks of the isle, but you also see the magnificent landscapes during the bus ride. The third way to get to know the island better, is to rent a car that the hotel provides. We didn’t do this, but it’s a great opportunity to discover the area yourself!

Last but not least, the staff was incredibly friendly. The second time we visited, they remembered us. It was truly amazing to see how well the hotel is treating their guests! They are an ultimate factor in the experience of our time here! An amazing thank you to the crew! Both of our stays were excellent!

They say never go back, but Hara Ilios proves that saying to be wrong. This was our second visit and we had a wonderful time there. The hotel itself is spotlessly clean and the gardens are beautifully landscaped, it’s a pleasure to walk through them. We stayed on a half board basis (buffet service at both meals) and the food was delicious, plentiful, with a lot of choice at each meal. The best thing about Hara Ilios though is the staff. This is a family run establishment and the family vibe emanates from everyone who works there; they’re all so helpful and friendly. Special mentions and thanks to Anna, on reception, who was particularly helpful and efficient, and George, the head waiter in the restaurant, who did his job so well. We also include in our thanks Dillon and Pantelis in the restaurant, and Vassilis in the bar.
We will definitely be returning - we’re looking forward to our next visit already!

We felt at home whilst holidaying for a week at the Hara Ilios hotel. It is well kept small hotel little walk from the beach but with plenty of eateries and supermarket nearby. Small niggle, wish there was bit more choice on the breakfast but they do provide cooked breakfast, cereals, fruit etc. Staff are very friendly and helpful. It is a family run hotel, and the staff take precautions during Covid-19. I would come back and stay at this place and recommend to my family.

I didn’t expect that much from this hotel if I’m honest. Some of the pictures on the Internet led me to believe it was old-fashioned. But, this has been a really excellent hotel to stay at. I’m pretty critical of hotels usually! This one was just brilliant for the price. The staff were genuinely friendly and helpful, that goes for the serving staff in the restaurant and the receptionist and maintenance people (slight problem with my air-conditioning).
The hotel was exceptionally clean, you just have to be a bit careful around the pool because the tiles can be very slippy. You have been warned!

I had a lovely room with a modern shower and separate toilet. And there was a pool outside the room which I didn’t use. But, I did use the main pool and that was nice and clean as well. The pool is not heated so, depending on what the weather has been like over the last few weeks depends on how warm the pool will be. We came in October and the pool was pleasant , once you were in it.
The food was buffet style. There was plenty of fish and meat, it was freshly made on the premises.

My friend is a vegan and they made a special effort to cater for him. I particularly like the Greek yoghurt for breakfast in the morning along with the porridge.

The savour dishes were really nice, the beef and the lamb superb. Like most hotels, the suite dishes are never quite as nice as they look.

Perhaps it’s because they don’t use fresh cream unlike in the UK, so maybe it’s not fair judge by that standard. no complaints about the amount of fruit, plenty of nice oranges, pineapples, melon, pears, etc.

Overall, this is a standard four star hotel but they really make an effort to please the guests and I just thought it was really nice.

Stay from May 18 to 25, 2024. We are still on site as I write my review
The hotel is perfect! It is very very clean, whether outside, in the common areas or in the room.
The buffets (breakfast and dinner) are excellent! There is everything, for all tastes. In a week we have not eaten the same thing once, there is a lot of choice. Drinks are not expensive (example €2 per bottle of water)
The swimming pool is very pleasant with many deckchairs, there is always room.
You can rent beach towels for 1€ per day and give it away for cleaning every day.
The garden is lush (hibiscus, bougainvillea, etc.) it is very beautiful.
The staff are charming
We were greeted by Anna who offered us a cold drink on arrival and showed us to our room. Anna speaks French very well.
The room staff takes great care, it's very pleasant
I recommend that you go to the massage area which is located in the garden near the swimming pool: Stamatis and Spyridoyla are very nice, friendly and pleasant and their massages are absolutely divine! Real pros! Several massages are offered, do not hesitate to inquire. We have adored :)
Make an appointment as soon as you arrive, you will not regret it.
We are in a Superior double room number 623, view of the garden on the 1st and last floor, small sea view, pleasant and sunny terrace, it's quiet, no noise.
The hotel has free parking for your rental car (and also offers car rental)
The beach is 3 minutes away on foot. There are small supermarkets and quite a few restaurants within the same distance.
The airport is 20 minutes away, which means that the airport-hotel transfer is quick :)
Everything is perfect, we recommend this hotel which is not a big noisy complex.
It's family-friendly and there's a good atmosphere.
Thanks to the staff at hara ilios for helping us have a great holiday

We stayed at Hara Ilios Village for over a week and if we ever come back to Crete we will come back!
The hotel is very charming, on a human scale and very well maintained.
The swimming pool is great with many deckchairs and a food/drink service.
We had the half board option and the food was ok. The refectory room is sometimes a little noisy depending on the vacationers there, but the back room is quieter with a nice view. The food is varied, with local and international dishes as well as a wide choice of cold salads. In the refectory but also in general, the staff is very friendly!
The room was very clean when we arrived, well insulated compared to other hotels here... and the bedding is good. The room is large, with storage and the small garden view balcony was very nice, it just needed a few additional items to extend the beach/pool stuff.
Finally, in terms of location, the place is quiet, a little out of the city, a few hundred meters from several beaches. The hotel is 30 minutes from Heraklion airport, near Malia and its magnificent beaches and 45 minutes from Agios Nikolaos. The hotel also has two large parking lots which is a plus when renting a car.
I recommend this hotel!

A recommendable, quietly situated hotel in a generously maintained green outdoor area surrounded by typically Greek-built accommodation, with an inviting pool and about 150 m from the sea.
Friendly, attentive and helpful staff, both at the reception and in the service, and an attentive cleaning staff, who ensure a tip-top clean complex and an always clean room.
A rich and varied breakfast buffet surprises the guests.
