We spent a week at this hotel in october as a family of 3 holiday. The hotel has some good points but requires significant improvement in order to be classes as above a 3 star hotel. Firstly the good points! It's clean, the staff work non stop, particularly the dinning area staff. You really can't fault them, theor attentive and hard workers. The pools. If you have children that love the pool this place is hard to beat. Slides for toddlers, children and adults. You'll have a great time. Something to be aware of if you go in October like we did it rained constantly and was bloody freezing, this hotel does not have a heated or an indoor pool. Entertainment. Night time entertainment perfect for children. Nothing for adults though, but I wouldn't recommend this hotel for adult's. Rooms. Clean but basic. Think of it as its somewhere to sleep and you'll be fine. Ok so areas of improvement needed. Food. Large selection of poor food. Selection does not change much through the week either. By day 3-4 you will leave this hotel looking for somewhere else to eat. Drinks. Beers great but shorts are watered down, same with cocktails. Example my girlfriend drank cocktails from about 2pm till about 11pm not once was she the slightest bit drunk (make of that what you will) You can actually pay for drinks/cocktails. Cocktails are 10 euro a go. These are much better and can actually tell there's alchol in them. Also if you l8ke shorts bring your own mixer theory coke is horrid. If it rains this hotel literally has nothing to offer kids other than a very small covered area with a few slides in. Won't keep them occupied for more than 30mins. All in all we had a good holiday as we made the most of it. But being someone that's been to multiple all inclusives before, I think I'd try an alternative hotel next time

We had a lovely holiday here. The hotel was clean and well looked after and we thoroughly enjoyed the food. There was a wide range and the Greek salads and desserts were fab. I ate vegetarian all week and was never disappointed with what was available. The swim up room was definitely worth the extra, it felt like we were in a private villa a lot of the time, the pool was great and the loungers across from the pool were a real treat. The room itself was clean and reasonably sized, patio area outside was lovely to have too. There are a few suggestions I have for changes which wouldn't cost much but I think would improve the hotel experience: 1he upstairs bed was very generously sized but probably the hardest bed I've ever slept on. I usually like a relatively firm mattress but this one had me waking up stiff and sore every morning - a mattress topper would have made a huge difference - having a good rest on holiday is really important and difficult to achieve in an uncomfortable bed. The sofa bed mattress downstairs was bare - no protective cover. The cleaners worked hard to keep things clean but the lack of a mattress cover gives a really poor impression of hygiene standards and is really easy to address. We were a family of four sharing a maisonette. There was one small wardrobe with around 8 coat hangers. The children had to live out of the suitcase the whole time as there was nowhere to put all the clothes, underwear etc. The room never felt tidy as so much was jammed together on the limited surfaces we did have and some storage would really improve things - there was plenty space under the TV for some drawers or even just shelves which would make a big difference. Getting into your room and unpacking is the exciting start to the holiday - finding there's nowhere to unpack it to and having to leave things in the case is a bit of a let down and it's easy to do something about. Loved Crete and its people and would love to go back.

That we had an enjoyable holiday with family was inspite of rather than because of the hotel. The hotel describes itself as five star but in our opinion it isn't - more like three and a half star and here are some reasons why. If you have very young children like one part of our group you are likely to be given a room in an old block. The one we were allocated was dark and very dated and had patches of black mould on walls and ceiling. A move was requested to a newer block such as the remaining three adults had but we were told that this was not possible - despite rooms in our block being unoccupied all week - as the hotel had full occupancy that week in October. Even our newer room was very minimalistic - not even a chair - and though described as a suite be aware that the two rooms are divided by a thin and translucent partition and to access the bathroom from the main bedroom you must pass through the second bedroom. If anyone in your party has a nut allergy or is vegan you should consider an alternative. There is a sign at the main dining room entrance which says "Please ask one of the restaurant's supervisors to guide you if you have any food allergies or intolerances. We will be happy to assist you." One of the children in our group has a nut allergy so on two occasions we asked if a particular dish contained nuts and both times staff tried to find out but no one in the kitchen knew whether or not they did. Another member of the group is vegan. In the main restaurant the slight concession to this was a vegetarian corner. This had three unimaginative dishes and on two occasions one of these was a moussaka containing meat. To get any subtantial protein was impossible for this guest who was clearly an afterthought. In the A la Carte restaurant the only main course dish had vegetables plus just FOUR cubes of tofu. Amazingly when this was queried and compared to the meat quantity on the rest of our plates the Maitre was apparently surprised, dismissive and worse still rude and unprofessional, shrugging his shoulders and walking away to attend other guests. Our holiday was all inclusive. For this you should be aware that the range of drinks included is limited and not high quality and should you wish to upgrade your gin and tonic with a slice of lemon you will be disappointed or if you would like a decent cocktail you will have to pay a lot of euros. Food in the main restaurant is okish (though why is there no proper fruit juice?) but the designers of the room have paid no attention to mitigating sound levels having installed a floor and wooden stools which scrape loudly and incessantly. The tables are very close together and the experience is very like a school canteen. Bar staff are efficient but not very engaging. The site is large and no map is provided, resulting in us discovering the largest pool only on the penultimate day of the holiday. Adult animation is poor - only at the end of the holiday did we see any evidence which was that aqua gym would start in 10 minutes and with no indication of where to go for it. If after reading this far you are still interested here are the positives: Many pools, and several suitable for children. All well maintained and clean. Excellent pizza and gyros during the day Helpful cleaning staff, friendly staff in the main restaurant. PS The management reply to this review is completely predictable and clearly won't really be meaningful.

Just got back from a great week here a few days ago and apart from having difficulty finding a decent drink I couldn’t fault the place. We had 5 rooms between 14 of us (adults and children) Arrived in the afternoon, easy check in and someone helps take bags up to room. Our room (2116, a corner room on 1st floor) was overlooking one of the pools, main bar and pizza place. Also central to restaurant, water slides and kebab hut. It was older than the new modern rooms other family members had overlooking the slides but was very clean. It had 2 bedrooms and a very nice bathroom. The rooms were cleaned daily with towels and bedding changed regularly and our maids were thorough and very friendly. In fact all the cleaning staff were friendly and polite and did an amazing job of keeping the hotel spotless. Food was lovely with lots of choice for everyone, even veggie options. The kebabs and pizza were amazing. There is also great ice cream in cones in different flavours and a coffee bar near the childrens slide area. We went to the al a carte restaurant which was very nice. The entertainment was very good too. My only issue was that I found it very difficult to find a decent drink (not hotels fault) as I don’t like sweet sugary drinks like coke, lemonade, juices etc so couldn’t even drink the cocktails except for mojito which you have to pay for and even without the sugar syrup (how I like it) I wasn’t keen. At home I drink only Prosecco and here at Gouves you have to pay for it which I didn’t mind but it wasn’t always available. The management were very good and very friendly and even bought us drinks on 3 occasions and gave us (each room) wine to bring home. A lovely gesture. All in all this is a great hotel with great facilities/amenities and the best staff I’ve ever known in a hotel. I certainly recommend it to anyone thinking of going there. Tanya Stayed 20/10/20 for 1 week Ps the beach is a 5 minute walk away with a few shops and restaurants. Lots of water sports down there. The weather was amazing during the day but pretty chilly at night

We were concerned by some of the reviews but the holiday we had was relaxing and pleasant. We had two rooms as a family of 4 next door to each other in the block 6000. The bathroom was clean and modern and the room was spacious enough for 2 of us. The resort was more spread out than I thought it would be which was a positive. But only a short walk to the bar/slides/pools. The noise by the main pool wouldn’t be my cup of tea. It is all inclusive so the food is what you pay for! Breakfast had enough choice and the Gyros was great at lunchtime. Pizza was also good but they could have had a little more choice. We ate out every night and there were enough choices of restaurants with walking distance. Lovely fresh fish! Drinks were local but again you get what you pay for. We stayed in Antigua last year where drinks/food was a lot better but this was double the cost of this holiday. Beach is 5 min walk and the sand was good, water sports fun. We hired a car as staying in a resort all week drives me potty. Well worth a visit to the local towns. I would recommend going and the kids loved it.

Hotel was absolutely perfect for us and our child. When we arrived we did have to wait for our room yo be made ready which is a hotel policy as there check in is usually between 2 and 3pm. The room we initially got wasn't the one we had paid for and within an hour they sorted us out a new room for the morning after so with helpfulness from the staff, it was resolved. Having read reviews regarding people's OPINIONS, on food, we found the food extremely satisfying and plenty of choice and staff work tremendously hard to ensure you're plates are cleared ASAP and the food was constantly being replaced for fresh. The pools was amazing, the waterparks and splash parks they have are perfect, the pools are cold water pools but we've as a family never experienced a family hotel with pools to have hot water so wasn't uncommon in our opinion. Not that it would stop us going in the pools everyday. The pool bars and main bar was very efficiently ran and always stopped whatever they was doing to serve you and clean up after you. (Maria from the Poseidon pool bar) was an absolute angel, allowed us to play our own music and gave me greek language lessons everyday. Our holiday was a complete success and would highly recommend to anyone. We will be coming back again.

Just arrived back this morning and thought I'd come and write my review. We arrived very late on the Friday night and was taken to our room by a porter which was lovely. Only downside was there was no water or food for us when we got there but we were so tired we went straight to sleep. The room was was great for the 4 of us a lovely bathroom and big sleeping area over 2 rooms. We had a room right opposite the main bar and next to the snack bars. It was a little too noisy for us with the music from the main bar and kids outside at stupid hours shouting and screaming so a room further away would have suited us slightly better but we just got on with it. One thing I'd like in the rooms or balcony is somewhere to hang the wet swimwear and towels, being October we were struggling to get them dry. However we were able to get extra towels from the spa everyday. The food was lovely my girls loved the pizza everyday and the Gyros were my favourite. We coped ok with the food I thought the salads were fantastic and there was always a good choice of main meals. They appeared to run out of ketchup midweek but it did return much to my daughter's joy. The pools were brilliant although a little chilly this time of year but that's to be expected. We were fortunate that the weather was good for us. So much more I could write but I would highly recommend this hotel was the first time all inclusive for my family and it worked for us. The staff all worked so hard in keeping it clean and tidy.

Just back from a week away for October half term. Weather was perfect and we all came away with suntans. We went with Jet2 and they were excellent. However this holiday has made us realise we have outgrown a “package” holiday. We booked 2 rooms but they couldn’t be further away from each other which meant logistics became tiresome. We were glad we booked 2 rooms as 4 of us in one would break me! Our 2 rooms were in the 6000 block (basement room) this was a huge disappointment and then the 8000 block (swim up maisonette room) which was gorgeous….. apart from the 2 cockroaches we encountered, the constant smell of sewage and the stray cats ( and there’s loads!) that everyone fed….. hence the cockroaches so be aware if you stay here!! The food….. this is difficult, us adults were ok, yes it’s a bit bland, yes it’s repetitive but they did very well catering for the amount of people there. The poolside snack bar was the best bit, kids loved it. AI drinks as expected, but drinking out of beakers really got on my nerves!! We are out at the Asian restaurant and that was the best meal all week AND we had wine in a glass!! …. But you have to pay for those drinks. We didn’t mind at all but just to make you aware . Fresh beach towels daily was great, as was the housekeeping no faults there. Pools were absolutely freezing! Once in you were ok. Slides were great fun. The staff worked incredibly hard but were a bit grumpy I must say. We hired a car for 2 days and we’re so glad we did, loved getting out and about, so easy to navigate the roads, it’s a must as for us sitting by the pool all day would drive us nuts. A good week was had by us all, planning our next holiday already
