Very charming place. The infrastructure is beautiful and of course so is the beach. Everything is kept quite clean. The staff are very nice and it was fun ordering food with them in Spanish as they were very patient, but if you only speak English you can always find someone to translate without much trouble. I am on a plant based diet and travelled in a big group full of people with other diets and they were very accommodating of all of us, although I reserve a 5-star rating for non animal harming (a.k.a. vegan) establishments. The best part which I will remember forever is lying in the hammocks and feeling relaxed for the first time in years, right on the sand.

I really enjoyed the surf house. The staff was friendly and helpful and I was able to work with them to figure out gluten and dairy free food. In my party we had a couple vegetarians and the kitchen was able to help them too. I stayed in a suite with a private bathroom and felt it was a decent value. We lost water 1 night which made the shared bathrooms pretty ugly but they got things fixed up quick. That's just life in the 3rd world so if that bothers you el paredon might not be the best stop The grounds and facilities are clean and well kept. As other reviews have said neighboring establishments can get loud with the party set but it only bothered me 1 night and I just put in ear plugs. I was told the night life is fun but certainly not huge. I dont go out at night much so it was all good with me. The surf here is middle of the road beach break that can get heavy. Know your limitations. The rips can be strong. Check out the mangrove tours through cholla Chula. That was very pretty and Worthwhile. El paredon is growing fast so go check it out sooner than later.

Had an amazing, restful and relaxing time at Paredon Surf House over the last 3 weeks. It's a quiet peaceful place attracting not only backpackers but family and Guatemalans. There are hostels nearby that are party style which you can just join if you want. The house and grounds are well kept and probably most consistant for experienxe. The staff tend to leave you alone to enjoy or finish what they doing before help (mis-interpreted in some reviews) but if you ask always happy to help and assist. I did a quick trip to Tikal, Antigua and climb Pacaya which staff helped me organise. El Paredon has a lovely long beach, stunning sunrises and sunsets. The surf beach break and is mixed beginner to advanced and often different each day. The house and a number of places around can rent you surf/body boards and provide instructors. The local town around is small but has small stores, restaurants (even Pizza and Ice Cream/Coffee shop). The rest it up to you, I relaxed most days in hammock, long walked along beach (it's endless) or took small activity like boat to see turtle feeding, salt farm, fishing in mangroves, wakeboarding or paddle boarding. I read some of the reviews here about safety, yes most is true but I think especially those from US/Europe forget what country there in and standards are not the same especially in remote locations like El Paredon. My stay was memorable and relaxing and would return and recommend to anyone.

We have stayed at the Surf House 3 times since discovering it last Spring. Obviously, we love it. However, guests - especially those staying in the bungalows at the front - should be aware that although the Surf House is not a loud party hostel, it is surrounded by them. Drunk people walking past and parties on the beach are literally meters from your room and will wake you up and keep you awake, sometimes for the entire night. Not the fault of the Surf House, but a significant consideration. To us, it's (so far) still been worth it, because the quiet times are lovely, sleeping with the waves, and we are happy with the place in the day time. But some of the nights have really been miserable. For what they CAN control, the owners have done a very nice job creating a chill oasis.

I stayed in the dorm room for 4 days, and wish I could have stayed longer... right in front of the beach where you can surf or watches surfers all day, beautiful sunsets and sunrises, nice clean pool, friendly family style dinners. Yoga next door at Cocori every morning. Not much activities or so but the days still fly by. Friendly and social but not a party hostel which I loved. Met really great people here!
