Detailed Reviews
We spent three nights at the Surf House in one of two Seaview Suites. First off this small hotel is located right on the ocean, which for us was a priority. One gets the constant sound of the waves and and the beach is thirty seconds away. There is an unassuming restaurant and a small pool right in front of that. Large umbrellas give one shade. Beverages are on the honor system as one checks a spread sheet for whatever one may want. There is a small palapa directly in front of the hotel with chairs and a place to escape the sun. An excellent place to watch the waves roll in. The grounds and the pool are very well maintained, clean with an abundance of plants. As to the rooms themselves. We got a suite because we wanted a private bathroom. There are only two of these rooms. They are comfortable and roomy. The shower has incredible pressure with the fixed temperature perfect for the beach. There are also casitas with private bath which are well located, have a nice porch to hang on, and can sleep more people. Only downside is the main bedroom is up a ladder and the bathroom is downstairs. There are also the beach front bungalows perched on stilts in order not to black the view form the suites. The bathrooms are shared, located behind the suites, but nice. . It never felt crowded though we were chose to come during the week. Overall we had a great stay.

Had an amazing, restful and relaxing time at Paredon Surf House over the last 3 weeks. It's a quiet peaceful place attracting not only backpackers but family and Guatemalans. There are hostels nearby that are party style which you can just join if you want. The house and grounds are well kept and probably most consistant for experienxe. The staff tend to leave you alone to enjoy or finish what they doing before help (mis-interpreted in some reviews) but if you ask always happy to help and assist. I did a quick trip to Tikal, Antigua and climb Pacaya which staff helped me organise. El Paredon has a lovely long beach, stunning sunrises and sunsets. The surf beach break and is mixed beginner to advanced and often different each day. The house and a number of places around can rent you surf/body boards and provide instructors. The local town around is small but has small stores, restaurants (even Pizza and Ice Cream/Coffee shop). The rest it up to you, I relaxed most days in hammock, long walked along beach (it's endless) or took small activity like boat to see turtle feeding, salt farm, fishing in mangroves, wakeboarding or paddle boarding. I read some of the reviews here about safety, yes most is true but I think especially those from US/Europe forget what country there in and standards are not the same especially in remote locations like El Paredon. My stay was memorable and relaxing and would return and recommend to anyone.

I highly recommend Paredon Surf House. The accommodations are varied, something for almost every taste. We stayed in one of the two suites that they have. A palapa style room with a small porch, one large main room, and a very nice bathroom. There are also 4 elevated palapas that directly face the beach, but they share bathrooms that are located near the back of the property. Then there are two larger casitas that are nice, with a larger sea view bedroom upstairs and bathroom down. Also a dormitory for women only. A couple of nice amenities. All the coffee you want in the morning supplied in a large urn. Also filtered water, though best to have your own receptacle. The restaurant is good, though we tried others as well. Wait staff friendly and efficient. Honor system on all beverages. There was a mix of older (us) and younger people there and the atmosphere is tranquil. The ocean sound is constant, and just outside. Not an exceedingly cheap stay, but a good value for what you get.

We stayed at surf house for two nights, Mar 7 & 8. We came back to the hotel about 9pm on Mar 8 and it was dark, gate was locked, and night-time guard let us in. There is a pool and another little rectangle in the ground about 1 X 2 feet along the path. The pool is well lite. The dipping pool for the feet is not at all well lite and is rather dark. As we walked in, my partner did not see the little pool for dipping feet, stepped in and fell, hurting her arm. The night time guard ran to her and helped her up. She went and asked for ice and was given a bag of ice to help with swelling. My friend who tripped in the darkness is in her mid-70s.
The following day my friend went to talk to the lady in charge at that time of day and suggested that a light be put in so this kind of problem could be avoided in the future.
The lady told my friend that if these facilities do not match your needs you should go elsewhere.
I often had trouble walking by the little dipping pool in the darkness. One has to always pay very careful attention to where one steps since it is very easy to step in little pool. Our room was in a elevated structure near that foot dipping pool and we always avoided it in daylight.
The response of the host is not what one should expect from a person with so much responsibility.

I really enjoyed the surf house. The staff was friendly and helpful and I was able to work with them to figure out gluten and dairy free food. In my party we had a couple vegetarians and the kitchen was able to help them too.
I stayed in a suite with a private bathroom and felt it was a decent value. We lost water 1 night which made the shared bathrooms pretty ugly but they got things fixed up quick. That's just life in the 3rd world so if that bothers you el paredon might not be the best stop
The grounds and facilities are clean and well kept.
As other reviews have said neighboring establishments can get loud with the party set but it only bothered me 1 night and I just put in ear plugs. I was told the night life is fun but certainly not huge. I dont go out at night much so it was all good with me.
The surf here is middle of the road beach break that can get heavy. Know your limitations. The rips can be strong.
Check out the mangrove tours through cholla Chula. That was very pretty and Worthwhile.
El paredon is growing fast so go check it out sooner than later.

It‘s really not worth going here, we had an overpriced breakfast, staff refused to share the wifi with us, coffee was a joke and There was only powdered milk availble. We couldnt sit under a cabaña even though Nobody was staying in it. a Better go somewhere else, I felt really unwelcome.

Came here for 5 days with my wife. Location is excellent and right on beach and close to other bars and restaurants. The rooms are nice and beds comfortable and clean. There is no air conditioning but the wind cools everything down well throughout.
The food is available all day, but is limited in variety, generally good in quality and small in volume, so we started to go elsewhere for our lunches and evening meals, even breakfast!
Reception is open from 7-7. With drinks, you take from the fridge and mark it on a tab, plus water, coffee and tea is always available.
The pool is small but nice, there are seats and loungers around the pool, hammocks in the garden which is lovely grass. The surfboards for rent are limited in options so I had to go elsewhere to rent mine.
Generally a quiet and friendly atmosphere. The service staff only speak Spanish so you need to go to reception if you want English. The WiFi reception is excellent - best I’ve had virtually anywhere!
There is a variety of bedrooms to suit budget and the showers and toilets are generally clean and good. Our bungalow and suite cost £50 and £70 per night.
Great place for quiet place to come with partners to relax and enjoy the sun, surf and beach.

We were enjoying the sunset at el paredón surf house, listening to music. A lady turn around and told us the turn the music off. We proceed to lower the volume and the same lady turned around and told us again to turn it off. I asked who’s rules were that when you are in public. beach she then said with an arrogant tone I am the manager of the resort you staying and that she didn’t make the rules. My issue is that two other people ( Americans). Had the music blasting and no one told them to turn off, second if she is the manager of the Resort she should know to deal with a paying guest. The property is stoning and the associates that work there are amazing. Not sure how this lady calls herself a manager!!!! Not sure I will recommend this property due to her treatment of her guest !!!

The restaurant is open for everybody. But if you’re not a guest the service is really bad.
They won’t provide the WiFi password if you don’t stay at the hotel.
If you order food you have to order at the kitchen, then walk to the reception (if there is somebody), pay first and take your own drinks.
Bad customer service if you’re not a hotel guest!!

The location (right on the beach), the lovely pool and property are truly idyllic. During the day it felt like a slice of paradise.
But, at night, the resort next door plays such loud music (until midnight), followed by ongoing revelry on the beach and the road directly next to the beach bungalows that it is literally impossible to sleep. It feels like a party in your room! After consecutive nights we couldn’t handle it anymore and had to depart early.
I realize this isn’t the fault of the surf house but perhaps more transparency around the night time noise to potential guests would be fair.

Surf board rentals are $20 a day $100 per week. Besides El Paredon for surfing, I think Champerico and Iztapa (75 mins from Antigua). If you check out Beachco.guatemala you will find more information. I also recommend, if you have time Semuc Champey, Lake Atitlan and Antigua.
