The title says it all. We arrived at Mac's and it truly felt like home. Our room was adorable, I think it might have technically been a dorm but it was just the two of us staying there. It was also really cool which surprised me! The bathroom was huge and clean. They did our laundry for us which was awesome! We also were treated to great food - huge portions and different courses. Mac is a wonderful host and knows a lot about Mali. It was great talking with him. He also let us use his computer and DVD's because we were in need of some R&R as we were near the end of our trip. I would definitely recommend staying here! Yes, this is not the place to stay if you want a central location, but that's not what we came here for!

Travelling in Mali can be a challenge at times, but Mac's is truly a Refuge. The rooms are clean, spacious, cool, mosquito netted just in case, and have working "facilities." The food is way over the top--a four-course dinner and more breakfast than you can eat are included in the room price. And Mac has lived in Mali nearly all his life (which is a while!) and provides a wealth of very accurate information, as well as a history lesson if you want it. He even changes money for you. This is a place that strives to ensure that the traveller feels well-cared-for from start to finish. Clearly, a highlight of my trip was the recommendation to stay here, and I would go out of my way to do so again on a return trip.

Mac is the man. the food here is great, and this is a wonderful refuge from what is a great country to travel in, but which lacks a lot of basic things that Mac has. these things are 1) great food that is clean, safe to eat, etc 2) water, potable water 3) very clean rooms with AC 4) a person that centrally manages the hotel that understands what travelers needs / wants are I would not stay at Mac's the entire time in Mali, or you will miss out on the cultural journey, and , frankly, you wont see the way Malians really live. BUT, this place is a much needed bubble, a little paradise to go and sleep and eat and be merry. Cold beer, they even make a little hibiscus tea thats to die for. this place saved us for a couple of nights when we were exhausted. thank you Mac

A long way from the centre of town but a very friendly place with great food. Mac himself is interesting and helpful.
