This was our first stop in New Zealand and we had many treks in the area planned. Was a great location for jumping off for hikes and adventures. The nights were cool enough but we did use the fan provided. Kitchenette was well equipped for us to make quick dinners. I would say that the price was pretty reasonable given... More

Value for money with free wifi, kitchenette and helpful, friendly staff. Clean and spacious unit we would have been happy to stay another night. A good stop-over on the way to other places. On main road into town.

We had just driven the look around the Coromandel pennisula and needed a place to stay for the night. It was spacious, clean and we all slept well. The owner was very pleasant and helpful. The kitchenette has a small fridge/feezer, a cooking plate, microwave, pots/pans, dishes, utensils, etc. There is a picnic table just outdoors and a grill that... More

We came to thames at 8.30 pm just to find accomodation for the night. Much were closed. Swung by the first vacant motel which happened to be Avalon and the priced seemed reasonable so we took it. Lady at reception was nice and very friendly. The studio was better than expected; clean, OK beds, cute porslin, clean and fresh bathroom.... More

was a little concerned with reviews but we had a great stay for family of 5, we were upstairs and heard no traffic noise, spacious clean, new curtains, carpet and comfortable beds, instant hot water for shower, bath for kids. Very relaxing, just needed some final painting under bench in kitchen but at that price would stay there again.

Granted, we had just come from the Campground of Hell elsewhere and therefore infinitely thankful to be staying anywhere but there, we found Avalon Motel to be very lovely. The interior was clean and neat and not entirely too outdated for a motel in the small town of Thames as others seemed to suggest. Lovely green lawn for the ground... More

Went down to thames for the races which ended up being cancelled so spend a lot longer than expected in these rooms. Between a few of us, we rented two rooms with a number of beds. Although recently painted and new carpets. The appliances along with the kitchen and bathrooms are very dated. There were a few things noticeable such... More

I didn't want to stay there because of the reviews I had read. ..but it was the only motel avaliable. I'm not sorry at all, it was so spacious, my kids ran around the big open area. Close to a shopping center. The owners were nice and friendly and borrowed us a spade for the hot water beach, and directions.... More

I have seen some negative reviews here, and I have to say that our experience was very positive. The owners are gradually renovating I understand, and hopefully the reviews will improve as they should. We found this place great value for money, it was inviting and comfortable. Would definitely stay here again, the service was excellent, but at the same... More

Stayed for one night (silver lining: it wasn't 2 or more nights). Dated interior, ineffective curtains, pretty bad road noise and it is possible to hear neighbors getting jiggy. Beds were very uncomfortable. Ok, it is on the cheaper end of the spectrum, but $140.00 was too much for the lack of quality. Would not recommend.
