We made reservations at the Avalon through the I-Site Information Centre in Te Aroha on our way to the Coromandel range. We were very pleased that the motel was on the main highway and that we did not have to search for it. The manager gave us the choice of two rooms that had just been remodeled. The rooms are all on the ground floor and were more like suites than simply motel rooms. Both were very large, had a kitchenette, a microwave and refrigerator. The one we chose also had a table and two chairs so we were able to use our computers comfortably. The wifi was very fast. The terrace right outside our room was an extra bonus which we were sorry we could not use. By the time we returned from dinner, it was very cool; it was too chilly to sit outside. The manager was accommodating to any request we had. We are sorry that we had not asked for a small space heater because it was still early spring and it was actually cold at night. Luckily, the beds had fleece blankets so we slept well. The grounds and small gardens around each individual room were lovey and it was clear the management cared a great deal about the aesthetics of the surroundings. While the Avalon may be described as a three-star accommodation, the motel gives you value for your money.

I stayed at this motel with my family (and two kids), for a night. Overall the motel stay was good. Our room was clean, and facilities were good. I will stay at this motel if I come back to Thames again.

This motel was a real surprise, in that it was better than expected. The hosts have apparently been upgrading the whole place, and they should be proud of their achievements. It was spotlessly clean; the host hurried to the room with the milk and turned on the light as I was driving round to the rear parking spaces. The parking spaces were numbered to make things clear. The room had a well-appointed bathroom and the kitchenette was well laid out. I found the microwave a tad small, but that's a minor detail. The bed was very comfortable and the linen and pillows were good quality. There were enough power outlets to charge my devices. There was a huge flat-screen TV on the wall. the room had a ranch slider door which opened onto the garden and pool. The curtains were heavy and thick to exclude light. The room itself was big enough to accomodate a sofa and small dining table in addition to a desk attached to the wall, so I had room to spread out my documents and devices. What a pity I was only staying for one night! I would certainly stay here again.

We booked here for 4 nights to attend a wedding and could not fault it. We arrived a little later then expected so the owner left reception open for us. The rooms looked newly renovated and were very clean. From the crockery to the beautiful soft towels (which smelt amazing) everything was perfect. Thank you.

Enjoyed a comfortable stay, especially being able to sit and enjoy the sunset from our patio. Friendly helpful owner added to our experience and we appreciated all the updates they have been making. Nice quiet area and easy walking for dinner and shopping.
