Overall a fantastic place but for the price I would expect rooms to be renovated a bit as they are very dated and definitely would have expected Internet in the rooms. Pros: - the location and the views are stunning, never seen anything like it. - the cottages have a lovely old architecture, big airy rooms, fantastic views and large balconies. So beautiful! - Chris, our driver, was absolutely brilliant (the drive up is terrifying and locals drive very fast, don't try and rent a car, tell the hotel to come pick you up!) - everyone is friendly - breakfast was great - the electric blankets in the beds were a nice touch - I recommend visiting the Craighton estate nearby (coffee plantation, you can walk there, $25 for the tour) - Nice pool area although pool itself was very cold Cons: - no Internet in the rooms which is a big drawback in 2022. We told the front office who said they will look into it but nothing was done. - cleaning was a problem, the rooms weren't properly cleaned before we arrived or on any of the days, just a very superficial job - slow service generally, took them 2 days to give us a hair dryer after many, many requests, similar issue with not enough towels and robes - very slow service at the restaurant, food was ok but nothing special - the property is old and this means a lot of dirty dusty corners, very dated - no windows, all mosquito nets only so we were constantly getting lizards, lots of ants and other insects in the rooms. One of the beds was covered in insects when we checked in. - it also meant we could hear the couple having sex next door at 6am every morning, every conversation was heard. Bring earplugs. - a lot of back areas of the hotel were dirty and not kept up nicely - the spa was very very dated, I was put off any treatments when I went in there …
This review is long overdue since it's been several years since our visit but just had a chance to revisit the area and we still love it. Strawberry Hill is Jamaican luxury at its best and I would definitely recommend it.
Wonderful small boutique hotel with manicured grounds and the most incredible views overlooking Kingston. We received a very warm welcome on arrival, the cottages are simply decorated with super comfortable 4 poster beds and a small balcony. We stayed just 2 nights before moving onto explore other corners of the island. Food was of a good standard and the portions are large! Some things a little overpriced - $100 for a ribeye. My massage was ok, cut short so felt a little short changed. My husband got his full allocated time and enjoyed his more so. Make time to visit the local coffee plantation if you can. Thanks to Ricardo & his team for a lovely, albeit short stay. I would return in a heartbeat.
My partner and I stayed at Strawberry Hill for four nights in December. My only regret is that I wish we had stayed for six or seven. The team at Strawberry Hill is the best on the island. The crew at reception is lovely and they know how to make entry to (and staying at) the property easy and chill. Very soon after arriving we met Shelton who would be slinging some amazing drinks for us through our stay. Ricardo Bowleg is the GM and he's a true to pro. He's always around but not invasive. We most often dined with Jacette & Marva (sorry, spelling) and these two woman were amazing. Totally boss and knew our style after just one meal. Our room was lovely as were the views. The bed heaters were an amazing addition, I feel lucky to have tested it because had no idea what it was when I originally saw the dial by the bed. Pro tip: set it before you go to dinner and you'll have no issues falling asleep in the cool evening air. The restaurant was really impressive. Breakfast coffee was the best on our trip, fresh baked breads and muffins plus lovely a porridge (eggs were darn good too). We tended to have a light lunch by the pool most days since we were saving ourselves for dinner, sharing a sandwich was enough for us. Dinner was generally a feast. All dishes were good. I'm a sausage lover and was not disappointed by that menu item. My only complaint with any of the food is that the portions are massive. Yes, we live in NYC so maybe that makes us biased but being a person who likes to try many things was a challenge. Perhaps it's a good problem to have for most of the guests though. The bar was beautiful and as I mentioned earlier Shelton is really an ace. They have a good selection of local rum and Mr. Bowleg mentioned he'd be adding more in the future. The grounds and general vibe of the hotel was beyond beyond. Amazing location, very quiet, no kids (thank you, this is not a kids hotel), fires (inside and out) every night, a chill pool scene (and a chilly pool! great to cool a high sun intake), tons of trees and flowers. It really is a dream. We'll be a back for sure.…
Loved this property to pieces! I mean the journey to it is long buy worth it. Based on observations, doesn't matter what room you take, there is a view all around. The restaurant is scenic, every afternoon/evening there was live music. The front office manager was amazing, with the help of her team, they put together a good itinerary for us to do things each day. Hopefully, I'll be back next year. Worthwhile!
We stayed at Strawberry Hill in January 2020 and it is among the most unique hotels we’ve ever stayed at. Nestled in the Blue Mountains, the views from our room and all over the property are breathtaking. Our room was beautiful, spacious, and comfortable. Watching the sunset from our balcony/patio each night was an unforgettable experience. The whole resort was incredibly peaceful and serene. The staff is very attentive and our meals were delicious. The history of the grounds was also fascinating to learn about. A truly unique and beautiful getaway.
I cannot begin to express the wonderful experience I had at Strawberry Hill. The grounds are immaculately kept. This is the best to way to relax and enjoy Jamaica. I know many people travel to Jamaica because of the beaches. I love home for that reason as well. However, the fresh mountain air is wonderful. You cannot begin to dream up a better way to start your day. I remember not wanting to leave my suite. It was just so wonderfully kept. The front desk staff is amazing. They greet you with kindness and are so pleasant. The spa staff is also just as wonderful. I would be remiss if I did not mention Mr. Bowleg. He and his staff is truly exceptional! I have photographs but I will have to upload them later. Again, you will feel rejuvenated! Excellent!!
Strawberry Hill sits in a stunning location overlooking Kingston with spectacular views day or night. It is a somewhat rustic retreat. Staff are attentive; the food is good. i would go back and give it a qualified recommendation.. Our group had three rooms, all rooms were small with only room for a single comfortable chair in a room for two people and no foot stool. Each room had a balcony with a table and two chairs. Strawberry Hill bills itself as a luxury resort, but it misses the mark. There were too many small failings that disappointed. There was no orientation on check in. About half the red wines on the wine list weren’t available. One room fridge leaked and needed defrosting. One toilet was not flushing properly throughout the stay. Two of the safes in the rooms didn't work and one was never fixed. The electric bed warmers in two of the rooms weren’t functioning. One never got fixed. The main phone service to the hotel was down. The finials on the stairs to the room were rotting and if you held them for support they fell off the railings. The rooms could lock from outside but there was no way to secure the door when you were inside your room, which left us each with an uneasy feeling. These were all small problems but there were too many to ignore. With better process management, attention to detail and staff training this property could easily become the luxury property it aspires to be.…
We needed some time to rest and relax without pressure to drive or visit attractions- just perfect here! Driver met us at Kingston airport and delivered us within an hour on roads you don’t want to drive on! The studio cottage with small veranda- Cedar- was our home for 5 days. Very basic with touches of luxury reminiscent of an old cottage redone! Just out of the pandemic lockdown tourists were slowly starting back. Not a large number of rooms so never crowded around the lovely pool deck. The restaurant is well regarded so several couples from Kingston usually come for lunch or dinner. Tables are arranged along the veranda with views down over Kingston and the ocean many miles away. Servers are the friendliest people you can meet. Food was always very good and sometimes we got new foods we had never had! We will be trying some of these back home. Lovely quiet bar area straight out of some movie with a real fireplace - yes it is cool at nights at 3000ft elevation so bring some long sleeves! The grounds are something everyone should experience - stunning display of flowers and trees of every description like the hand of god sprinkled seeds from the garden of Eden that grew into this profusion of riotous colour. Strawberry Hill hotel is highly recommended!…
The property at Strawberry Hill is luscious, clean, and relaxing. We loved how private the resort is. We were in the Cedar Cottage and had gorgeous views of the mountains and Kingston lights. Our cottage was wonderful to sleep in, with cool mountain breezes and the sounds of nature. The restaurant has amazing food and welcoming people. We loved getting to know everyone at Strawberry Hill and can't wait to return.
