We stayed for a weekend in this charming non- standard family hotel. It's situated in a very nice environment, right next to the river. The hotel looks quite old, and has a nice garden behind where our children could play and run. It looks really nice. It's very quiet, you are absolutely undisturbed. The hotel itself is quite OK, but... More

Great hotel in a lovely area just outside of Nijmegen. Place full of character, very informal but still professional. The rooms are basic but very inkeeping with the tranquil surroundings. Food very nice. The breakfast was super. Staff very friendly and relaxed. All in all a very nice hotel.

Oortjeshekken is a bit of an awkward hotel. It has a low budget feel. Rooms are small and have odd shapes and have low beams. (Private) bath and toilet are separate from the room (across the hallway for us) but the sink to wash hands, is in the room again. Bed linens were fresh but still had some vague stains.... More

We stayed here for a weekend, and enjoyed the beautiful garden, surrounding scenery and wonderful breakfast that came with our overnight stay. The food was fresh and bountiful. The views from the dining room gorgeous, and the staff warm and friendly. We will definitely return.

Not easy to find but what a stunning place on a fantastic location. First time 2014 we had dinner and last time we stayed overnight in the Kings garden room. Nice wines, delicious creative menu and one of the best breakfasts we ever had. Nice and friendly staff. A special location for us. Only minus: moskitos at the end of... More

When you love a simple (and relatively cheap) but good hotel and lots of great nature around the corner, Oortjeshekken is the place to be. Friendly staff, good food (a very nice breakfast is served for the guests) and a nice garden behind the hotel. We did not have a bath, but a very simple shower and toilet but we... More

Spend a long weekend at Oortjeshekken and completely revitalized. It has a unique atmosphere bringing you back to the good old days. Enjoy the local beach, ride a bike or just enjoy. At night it can be somewhat noisy but it dies done around 22:30.

Set along the South border of the Waal river on a lingering dyke, opposite a large swimming lake, Bisonbaai, where herds of wild horses and highlanders enrich the stunning landscape, with storks and spoonbills ("lepelaars") on the side, there you will find Oortjeshekken, a beautiful old inn, with its great terrace, very nice food, its cosy old bar, its superfriendly... Oortjeshekken is a small lodgement less than 10 rooms, in the suburbian of Nijmegen. Environment is great and service perfect. But than again, please notice no television, no wifi in the room and no mini bar nor airco. Food is average to okay. I love it, like I love monastries.

Oortjeshekken really has the best of both worlds. It is right in the middle of the Ooijpolder (great views, lovely walks, nature, silence), and at a very close distance from the lovely city of Nijmegen. The rooms are not luxurious but comfortable, and have great period charm. Ours, the Koninckskamer, had a wonderful view of the garden (and beyond) and... More
