We wanted to visit this part of the country for a long time- so went online and made a reservation for the place with the highest ratings- Pensiunea Eva (see my review on that one, summary -don't). Luckily, I knew about Castelul Maria from friends, so I just checked their site on my phone, got their reception phone number, confirmed availability and prices and 20 minutes later we were there.
Best things:
- you're in the middle of a very well taken care of classical garden;
- the food is excellent, the service beyond any expectations (they were asking us if we would like to order anything new, not on the menu - for breakfast -in case we got bored with the standard menu after a few days;
- rooms/ apartments very large and comfortable
- a lot of things to do around -go see the Botanical park in Simeria (5 minutes away), Deva,
Alba Iulia, Transalpina.
- great value for money.
Only thing a little annoying was the heating system -which in some of the rooms can be quite noisy.
We hope to be back, it was wonderful.
Best things:

I think this place ia the greatest surprise ever! Set in a wonderful, dream garden in a village that looks the same way it did 100 years ago, this small hotel really feels like a castle. Marble and greenery everywhere, large rooms with huge windows overlooking the garden. The food is amazing and they only serve fresh, healthy food.
We ordered a cake, they offered a home made chocolate cake.
We asked for anything for the kids, they got it for us.
The staff is very friendly and nice. There aren't enough words to describe this mini-castle!

the small house is beautiful and carefully decorated. the staff is polite, helpful and eager to please the guests. we had the large apartment, that is truly large and comfortable. the bedroom is big, silent and dark if you want to sleep till late, but it can become sunny and lightened if you wish so.
the bathroom has a very special tube and the entire place is made out of white marble. a very romantic place.
the sitting area is comfortable and makes you wish not to go.
the wifi is working only in the sitting area.
the restaurant i among the best in Romania with special food, like deer, boar etc
if you go during summer, eat in the large garden, under the trees or at candlelight in the evening.
they should improve the quality of the wines they serve.
i want to go there again and i would recommend it to anyone.
as i said, it is hard to believe there is such a beautiful place in a poor village.

Nice location (although a little bit difficult to find it; use Uroi as intermediate destination for gps), clean, good meals, fair prices. Wifi was not working, although they claim to provide free wifi. Nice atmosphere over all.

We are sorry, regarding the internet connection.We do have a wireless one,provided by Radiocom , but because of the area we are in - a valley, surrounded by hills-the signal gets weaker. If informed, we can contact Radiocom and they usually solve the signal problem in the following hour.

Abbiamo cenato alla Villa-Castello Maria di Banpotoc con due amici del luogo (che tra l'altro avevano prenotato telefonicamente e hanno potuto scegliere il menù) e devo dire che la scelta è stata ottima! Ristorantino carino con tavolo in terrazza, bella vista sul giardino. Luogo tranquillo senza zanzare. Il cibo favoloso, in particolare la carne con patate al forno e ottimo anche il vino! veramente delizioso e assolutamente consigliato. Forse il servizio leggermente lento ma almeno abbiamo passato più tempo in compagnia! Il luogo tra l'altro si presta per bellissime foto artistiche, per chi fosse interessato. Quando poi cala la sera, i tavolino nel giardino sono illuminati solo da alcune candele e questo rende l'atmosfera ancor più romantica e intima. Andateci!

This is a great place, me and my wife were very impressed by both the accomodation and the kind hospitality of Luminița, the owner. The food is great and the set up is really beautiful. Breakfast and dinner in the garden were our favourite part. For a small, remote place it is great.

Although the price is a little bit high, it worth a stay - but for 2-3 nights at least! I will explain it further...
The whole building is impressive, rooms are very large (perhaps too large! - that's why the wifi signal works only partial in some apartments), with all possible amenities - except for the blue apartment, where the pressure of hot water is very poor at sink, and they don't want to fix it - and with a vintage look, common spaces are also fabulous - you must see them - but only if you are not allergic to cats!
The overhelming (and also the best) part of the property is the garden - very large, amazing decorated and maintained, with possibilities for kids activity and also adults - basket, table tennis... and all sizes tables to serve the dinner outside! Absolutely delightful!
The food was perfect, very tasty and fresh, at a fair price - they organize all sort of small or medium events...
But the strongest point of this property is the PEOPLE! Luminita and her team - maids, waiters, receptionists, bellboys - they are absolutely wonderful persons, so helpful and kind, always smiling - thank you guys! Only one story to prove this: they don't have insect nets yet, but when we asked, prior to our coming (we are a larger group, occupying the whole castle), they decided to mount some quick improvisations, which will are to be removed after our departure, only for our comfort! Thank you again, wonderful people!

"The villa has 4 rooms altogether - 3 apartments and one large tower room which almost qualifies for an apartment. All of them have king-size beds that could fit an entire family and are decorated with a lot of taste. Any of them will do."Read full review
