Detailed Reviews
Communal Areas
The hotel is beautiful, very welcoming and friendly. We were there during the covid-19 pandemic and their professionalism towards the preventative requirements was super.
It has been fully refurbished and all of the areas are stunning. The outdoor pool area was never busy and the pool was lovely. All the toilet blocks are beautiful and the bar / games room is fresh and airy.
Upon check in you are requested to wear a wristband (which is to identify you as a guest and thus stop locals coming in to take up the sunbeds). We didn’t use the spa or gym as it was closed due to the pandemic but you could see if through the glass and all equipment was new. We didn’t use the tennis courts either.
Rooms
Rooms were cleaned every day by two cleaners and they were in there for around an hour. The bathroom was lovely with a large walk in shower. There are no locks on the internal doors, which is better for those with children, but difficult for adults! We left towels on the shower floor (that we wanted replacing) and they were replaced everyday.
We had a corner room which had lovely sea views, most rooms on the higher floors will have sea views. The living area was large with a dining table for 6, a sofa (Which becomes two single beds) and the open plan kitchen.
We had a two bedroom apartment, the double room had a small balcony, the main living room had a larger balcony and the twin room had a little balcony (which just about fit two chair on it!).
You only get three outdoor chairs for the whole apartment which was a little strange.
The kitchen was well equipped and we cooked lunch most days. Two hobs, a microwave, kettle and a toaster. Washing up liquid and tea towels were provided, along with a decent sized fridge freezer. The air conditioning is only in the living room, we left all the internal doors open and left the AC on all the time and it did manage to keep the whole apartment cool (The front room was definitely the coolest!)
Location
It is about a 6 minute walk down, over the main road and back up to the strip. It is ideally placed because you are far enough away from the main part of PDR and the hustle and bustle.
You are about a 15 minute walk to the main continente supermarket, which is far cheaper than the others for a larger shop, it is around 6 euros back in a taxi. There is another nice supermarket which is straight down to the main road (towards the strip), then straight up the other side and it is on your left (Less than 5 minutes walk away). This was ideal for freshly baked bread and milk.
There are three lifts which serve the building and there wasn’t ever a queue. The bar is reasonable, €2.50 for a bottle of super bock.

We stayed from the 15th to the 22nd of April, we arrived at 1pm and were unable to gain access to our room until 4pm. We had requested a high floor quiet room and we got a room on the 6th floor but it was facing the road so extremely noisy, unless upgrading definitely bring earplugs, we had brought some and we’re so glad we did.
The hotel is spotlessly clean and we were not disappointed with our room, it had everything you could need, fantastic blackout roller shutters.
The pool area was very nice, it was so quiet whilst we were there, some days we were the only ones there, never an issue getting a sunbed.
There is a snack bar which seemed expensive and was never busy.
We went for some nice walks and there is a decent size supermarket around a 7 minute walk Intermarche and a Lidl around a 25 minute walk away as well.
The maid service is fantastic, very quick and efficient, the hairdryer in the bathroom is brilliant so no need to bring your own, it was 2 single beds instead of a double and the bed was so comfortable with plenty of pillows, there was a tv in the living area and also the bedroom.
We would definitely come back but would pay for a poolside room to cut down on the noise.

Overall stay was fine but needs a few changes.
Reception is clean, spacious and the staff are friendly, helpful and welcoming. Everything we asked was addressed by knowledgeable and competent people.
We were first given an apartment facing the road which we were disappointed about as we had specifically requested a quiet room. The road is noisy at night, with a constant flow of cars and pedestrians. The bed in this particular room needed some serious attention, it was creaky and uncomfortable. We were also placed close to many other people in the hotel who were playing music late into the night. However the hotel did swap rooms for us after we expressed concerns about the bed and the noise. The second apartment was indeed much quieter (facing the pool) and the beds were perfect. The rooms are cleaned daily and towels changed by the lovely housekeeping staff. The lifts in this building are very small too, we had to take 2 different lifts to accommodate all our luggage on arrival.
The rooms lack a washing machine compared to other apartments we have stayed in in the area, however there is a good launderette close by.
Also close by is the beach area and some restaurants, pharmacy etc; the apartments are well situated.
Only other issue was that we did encounter cockroaches on two separate occasions in our room, despite daily cleaning and us disposing of rubbish appropriately.
The pool is great, plenty of beds, sunshades, clean toilets and a seating area. The pool bar play club anthems all day though which is a bit out of place here. My biggest complaint though is that the pool bar are charging €7.50 for a frozen Dr Oetker pizza! I couldn’t quite believe that’s what I was given.
Overall I would say the stay was good, but there are other apartments in the area which may reflect better value/experience if you’re a young family (as we are).

Booked last minute for a 14 night holiday.
Stayed in a 1 bedroom apartment on the first floor which meant we could use the stairs (the lifts are tiny). Downside to our apartment was that we were clearly on the north side of the building (the balcony nor the apartment never got any sun) overlooking a very busy road and free parking spaces that people use constantly to go to the beach etc (noisy).
The apartments are newly refurbished, well appointed and located, with just a short walk to the beach and amenities. The sofa(bed) in the lounge was uncomfortable and creaky, luckily no-one had to sleep on it.
The pool area was clean with plenty of sun beds (bring your own towels). The pool itself was freezing and the bar (in my opinion) had the music playing too loudly all day.
On arrival guests are given wristbands to wear to indicate they are staying at the apartments however hardly anyone at the pool wore a band and no-one checked (whilst we were there) whether or not they were residents.
Would I return ....yes (but not to the same room).
Would I recommend the apartments ....yes, the location for the beach and amenities is excellent.

Upon arrival I was amazed at how posh the hotel was very clean and well presented. We had 3 x 2 bed apartments so spacious and beds are so comfy, cleaners came everyday to change towels and give toilet roll. Reception staff very help and printed off our paper work. Our rooms i thought was very equipped considering self catering but I'm not there to cook anyway as there some fantastic restaurants on the strip. Noise levels at night was fine with me glad to see people enjoying them self after all this covid situation. The baby pool and big pool was excellent and always good selection of sunbeds. My only negative comment was the floor tiling around the pool is very slippery with or with out shoes on and dangerous I slipped a few times and my granddaughter and neice fell over. This hotel would also benefit with some sort of play equipment for children or little entertainment as I feel the outdoor bar area is wasted space as didnt see many sitting there especially as I saw a lot of families with younger children. Overall a fantastic holiday and place to stay.

We arrived on 19th September for a 6 day 50th Birthday Party. We got a great room with a pool view on the 3rd floor. The rooms were cleaned everyday with clean towels and modern fixtures & fittings. The safe hire was €2.50 per day & I asked could we pay for an additional day so we could stay in our room until our pick up at 5.30pm so we didnt have to wait around from the leaving time of 11am. This was allowed & we even got a discount having booked on their website instead of booking.com. The staff were always polite and professional. We needed a corkscrew as the one in the room was broken. We got it straight away. No job was too much trouble. So far from the reviews we read from small minded armchair warriors & those who go on holiday who are upset when a Portuguese hotel isnt exactly the same as their part of the UK.

We’ve just returned from a 7 night stay and had such a fab holiday ( two adults and two teens). The hotel reception and lounge areas are lovely and look brand new. and the staff were really friendly and helpful.
The accommodation was spacious and spotlessly clean and had everything we needed. We had a daily visit from housekeeping to clean the apartment and give us fresh towels and we felt like we had so much space.
We spent about an hour at the pool one afternoon after a boat trip and it was a tad windy, but the pool area is really lovely and also looks very new, with lots of sun beds.
Not a huge amount to do of an evening apart from a small games area and a bar that also serves pizzas, hot dogs etc along with drinks. This didn’t worry us as we used the accommodation as a base as a 7 minute walk brings you to the Main Street in Praia da Rocha where you can choose from an array of restaurants and bars.
The beaches are stunning and huge, and again are a 7 minute walk away, so this is where we spent all of our time.
The only challenge were the lifts, we seemed to wait ages for them but it’s really nothing to stress about and it would also be great if the bar area was utilised a bit more but we didn’t spend much time there to let it bother us.
If you’re looking for clean and spacious apartments to use as a base then you won’t be disappointed staying here - we would certainly go back!
Top tip - if you fancy a night in then tele pizza is a 5 min walk away and does some greet pizzas. We got two large pizzas for around 26 Euros and got a bottle of wine from the supermarket opposite as fancied a night in after a long day out.

Just returned from a week long stay at the Flor da Rocha. Stayed in a two bed apartment on the 7th floor. Wonderful space for a family, has all the amenities you need and is clean and comfortable. Housekeeping came in each morning to make beds, provide fresh towels etc and were pleasant and efficient. There is a games room which our children enjoyed to play pool and a couple of pools (although we didn’t use these much as a little chillly) The hotel is an easy walk to Praia da rocha beach and the main shopping eating area. We downloaded the Bolt app to get taxis to Portimao and Alvor which we also recommend as it was cost effective and worked really well. Spent a day at Zoomarine which we all enjoyed and visited Golfland which is worth seeking out. All in all we had a wonderful holiday, made great memories and would recommend to others.

We have stayed in Portugal off and on for the last 10-15 yrs and for the most part it has been a very enjoyable holiday. We have stayed in Flor da Rocha just as Covid was ending and this time. The rooms are clean, the cleaners are friendly and fast. The maintenance are fast to respond to blocked drains and non flushing toilets. But I have marked this place down for 3 things.
No: 1, The door to the pool, bar and restaurant areas is locked until exactly 9am every morning. No explanation, its locked. For an apparent 4 star, the paying guests cant access the pool until 9am.
No: 2, The smoking around the pool. We do not smoke and do not like having other people smoke in close proximity to us either. This is supposed to be the great europe, so much better than the UK, but it doesnt happen back home, so why here? People are coughing & spluttering and smoking. Smoking around children, babies, older people, it is a disgrace!
And finally,
No: 3, At the beginning of October and thankfully the end of our 2 weeks, about 200 university students from Lisbon descend on the Flor da Rocha and every night until midnight, there is loud music, running up and down the corridors, doors being slammed, chairs being thrown, screaming, shouting, loud revelry and general unruly behaviour. Which is all well and good if your at a kegger, but is this acceptable in a 4 star building?
Hence the 3 out of 5 mark.

Just returned from the Flor da Rocha after a week's stay. The hotel is well appointed with communal areas done to a modern standard, the staff on reception and at the bar were friendly and helpful. The hotel is very clean with plenty of sunbeds around the pool that were not reserved by absent guests in the morning. The bar serves a good range of drinks, but this can't be said for snacks Pizzas, cheese toasties, burgers or hot dogs that's it. But saying all that we would return again as the room was spotless with all you need for a self-catering stay
