50 kilometres from Faro airport (FAO, ALgarve - Portugal), the Blue&Green Vilalara Thalassa Resort is a lakeside haven of style, comfort and exclusivity. As you gaze out and enjoy the setting you will realize the resort’s true essence and magic. This is a fascinating place where every detail has been designed for your wellbeing. Located on the Praia das Gaivotas cliff overlooking the sea, with a 12-hectare area consisting mainly of magnificent gardens, the Resort has 100 junior suites, 11 suites and 13 apartments. The low-rise architecture is marked by soft lines and colours and appears to have been inspired by Gaudi. It includes one restaurant of Portuguese cuisine and gourmet, low-calorie menus, and another with theme dinners and barbecues. It also features six outdoor pools of fresh and sea water and one of its main trademark images: the Thalassotherapy and Spa Center, the first in Portugal and one of the most respected in the world. soft lines and colours and appears to have been inspired by Gaudi.

The good Stayed at this hotel for 3 nights. The property is beautiful with lovely gardens, pools and a beach. Our room was spacious and comfortable. Breakfast was good with a lovely view and the maitre d was excellent. A bottle of bubbles and chocolates in our room on the first night was a lovely surprise as we were on honeymoon. The bad Sadly this hotel sadly is really lacking in service and the standard of food you would expect from a 5 star (and even 4 star). Check in and check out (same member of staff) was extremely clinical and unfriendly. On two occasions, items were added to our bill we had not received / ordered. When we pointed this out, the staff member on each occasion looked put out. When checking out, we tried several times to call reception for a buggy to pick us up with our bags (room was a 5-10 minute walk away from reception) but no one responded. When we arrived at reception, 3 staff members were sitting there unoccupied. We explained this politely and the response was “oh. sorry.” He did not ask us how our stay was or make any conversation at all. Very strange. The food is very expensive for Portugal. We wouldn’t have minded this had the quality been good but it was very average. The best thing we had over our 3 days was a club sandwich and chips. Unfortunately the locality is quite run down so you are somewhat refined to eating at the hotel. For €340 per night, I wouldn’t recommend this hotel.

Every year my wife and I take a small break, together without the children, In june 2019 we went to Algarve and stayed 5 days in Vilalara Thalassa Resort. And it was fantastic!! Now, we had 5 days of the most amazing weather with blue sky and very pleasant temperature. So that was a big plus. But, the hotel, the grounds, the views, the pool, the breakfast, the restaurant with live music; it was all so nice. Very spacious bedroom with huge bathroom and great shower, Probably the best was the staff, Really friendly, helpful and great sense of hospitality. Our 5 day break felt like a proper holiday. We had an amazing time.

I have just returned from a week in the resort. Firstly the professional photos do reflect the quality and beauty of the place. I can not fault it! The staff were so helpful and friendly, again I cannot say enough. The pool area down beside the restaurant and bars is wonderful. There was no issue ever getting loungers and the place has the perfect feel. The beach is also a great facility as is Divespot who can organise water sports from kayaking to Boat trips. There is a buzz as there are other guests but it is never too busy. Would highly recommend this hotel and hope to visit on my next trip to the Algarve.

Gardens are well maintained and the room is clean and large but this is FAR from being a 5 star hotel and a waaaay too expensive for what you get. This hotel is too big, too impersonal, no service at the pool or the beach (unless you stand up and try to find someone who works at the hotel yourself), pools are ok but nothing dreamy. In a few words, don’t let yourself being fooled by the very nice and tempting pictures you will find online. I think this place is appropriate for families looking for their children to run and scream around (which is totally fine) but if you are searching for a relaxing place, with a real 5 star experience, then I would recommend the hotel next door (Vila Vita, expensive but worth it)...
