Wow ! What a find. Utterly delightful. Breathtaking value.

Everything started well, with Herlander (reception ) and a nice clear unambiguous email. (Thank you Herlander)

We arrived by Jet-Ski (over 70km from our departure port !) and tied up, at the hotels small river-dock.

The setting for the pool is superb. The water was welcoming , warm enough to swim, even in October and was crystal clear.

Unusually for Portugal, all the sunbeds were brand new and serviceable! There were plenty of (new) high quality sunshades too !

The garden are hosts some beautiful trees. If you were in Italy or France a river view like this would cost €350 per room per night. Maybe more.

Our room (216) was spotlessly cleaned and the bed linen was of a high standard. Plentiful hot water in a powerful shower, fluffy towels !

An enjoyable breakfast with super coffee was appreciated on our departure day.

I honestly wish this hotel and all the staff the very best.
Alcoutim is a small, pretty, tranquil town well worth visiting.
This hotel is amazing value !

Best wishes to all the hard working staff who provide a superb welcome.

This was our second time to stay at the Hotel Alcoutim and we are already dreaming of returning! It is a very tranquil place to stay, the decor in the rooms is very restful, the beds are huge and it was very quiet at night. There is a really large clean pool and it has fantastic views over the river so you can sit on your sun lounger and watch the boats go by and all of the bird life. You can swim in the river from a pontoon they have but you need to be cautious as the current can be very strong at times. There is no restaurant as such but they do delicious salads which are large enough for dinner especially when it is hot. The staff are very helpful but also unobtrusive so we would highly recommend staying here. Their covid 19 precautions were all in place so we felt very safe. Can't wait to return.

My wife and I visited the Hotel Alcoutim and stayed for 2 days, On arrival the reception was pleasant and helpful room was great with a view over the river Guadiana and swimming pool a quiet place if you like to chill. The dining room has a good breakfast also sandwiches at lunchtime. Rooms are a good price from 45-55 Euro in low season .The town of Alcoutim is around 10mim walk and stands on the bank's of the Guadiana river with boats and yachts anchored alongside their are plenty of Restaurants and bars to eat and drink in with good prices. Alcoutim is around 25min drive North of Villa Real St Antonio Algarve...take a trip visit or stay over , We enjoyed our 2 day stay..Recommend.

My boyfriend and I enjoyed our stay here very much. The room and bathroom were both very spacious. They did feel a bit outdated though, but that was part of the charm. The bed was quite hard though, so the sleep quality wasn't optimal. Our room had a small terrace with a lovely view: ideal to enjoy the warm summer evening and very practical to dry your swimsuit and towels.

We really enjoyed the quiet location of the hotel and the beautiful views on the Spanish hills on the other side of the river Guadiana. The hotel staff was very friendly and although we arrived to early they let us into the room before check-in time.

We booked a boat ride in the hotel, which was the highlight of our stay. The captain of the boat turned out to be a gentleman from the Netherlands and offered us the opportunity to steer the boat for a while. We really had a great time!

The swimming pool is big enough to cool down after a hot day. We didn't succeed in conquering one of the sunbeds (we didn't mind, we only went there for a swim), so if you like relaxing by the pool, make sure to arrive at the moment the pool opens.

The food and drinks in the bar are good. The dishes are simple, but tasty and the wine was poured very generously. I have to complement the cook the prepared the English breakfast. I loved every bit of it!

Nice quiet hotel on the riverside. neat and clean rooms, a bit noisy. the hotel is a 10 minute walk to the center, but via a clear and easily walkable route. Due to the Covid19 restrictions, breakfast is served at the table and a time must be communicated in advance. the bed was good beyond expectations. in the evening we heard the cowbells across the river; very soothing. don't expect 5 stars here, but everything you need and friendly people

What a thoroughly enjoyable experience. The first thing that strikes you is how friendly everyone is. The staff are always helpful and conscientious. The location next to the river, overlooking Spain, was lovely with a short walk of around 10-12 minutes into the delightful town of Alcoutim. I highly recommend upgrading to the 'English' breakfast as it was delicious and enormous. Thank you Hotel dAlcoutim for a lovely break.

This hotel was quite a walk (about 15 mins) from the village itself, which surprised us (we had been recommended by the sister hotel in Mertola). It’s clean and modern, but I had an awful night there. I was disgusted by the lack of support. At 3am the television upstairs was extremely loud. I called the 24-hour Reception three times, but there was no answer. Finally, on the third attempt of knocking on the door of the room (and calling out in Spanish), the TV was turned off, but after that I couldn’t get back to sleep. In the morning I felt appalling. The food in the restaurant was delicious and the staff were otherwise very pleasant and helpful.

My visit coincided with UK's Covid green rating changing to Amber, so I needed assistance to find where to get tested (nowhere round here, that's for sure :o) and the help was First Class. These things matter. As a solo traveller I was there to photograph local wildlife, especially Golden Orioles. At dawn every morning one sang in the poplar tree outside my room. Location is ideal for peace and quiet, the room was more than big enough for my needs and breakfast in the restaurant was well-managed to suit our situation. Tried the English breakfast just the once. FAR too much for me! This is the only difference between my review and cornishbandit.

Comfortable room, nice staff, river views of Spain's Sanlucar de Guadiana makes this hotel thoroughly worthwhile, even if it is located a bit out of the old town of Alcoutim (10-15 minutes walk). It is a great location if you also plan to hike up to the old castle. Certainly, great value for the money!

Great little hotel on the banks of the Guadiana river in Alcoutim. Nice, friendly staff.
Lunch was simple but very good. There isn’t really evening dining.
Some drinks on offer weren’t available, but this was not a problem.
Air conditioning worked well. We needed to ask for 2 additional pillows which we got.
There is a shortage of sunbeds and umbrellas and a lot of people put their towels down first thing in the morning to reserve the sunbeds and several people didn’t use the sunbeds for several hours (like 6 hours!), which was very irritating. There are no signs saying that you can’t reserve sunbeds or that if you don’t use your sunbeds for say 1 hour, then your towels would be removed. Probably only need 4-6 sunbeds and 2-3 umbrellas to resolve the issue

Hi Bev H, It doesn't surprise me. there are very few hotels only 2. no volume to establish cheap routes. its a dedicated car taking you. justifies the high cost. The alternative, go to Vila Real Santo Antonio, and there catch a cab. thus try agree the price in advance. This setup gives u flexibility and sounder price. I was with my car in alcoutim which proves essencial if you want to move around. But there are suficient alternatives an the distance is berable. to walk in alcoutim. Cannot give you reference to how much costs the cab. but you can call 'praca de taxis' in VRSA and inform yourself of the price. Try this number, 281543405. Someone will speak english with you. If not write me. i can call on your behalf. All the best. Nuno
