The Alentejo Marmòris is a hotel like no other, a one of a kind museum of marble, owned by a family that has worked in the marble business for generations. Located in Vila Viçosa (Alentejo), a historic village that is one of the world centers of marble, the hotel occupies an old palatial house. Designed by architect Miguel Cancio Martins (Buddha Bar, Pacha Marrakech, Hotel da Estrela), the hotel offers an atmosphere of comfort and tranquility, genuine hospitality and a range of services designed to provide memorable experiences to guests. It is an ideal retreat for a family or to be your "home" for a few days during a visit to this beautiful region of Portugal. The Alentejo Marmòris 39 rooms and 5 suites are spacious and elegant, inviting to a relaxing stay. Many rooms have outdoor terrace and all have individually designed marble bathrooms, one more element that makes this hotel a place of worship of the noblest of all stones. The restaurant offers the best of Alentejo's cuisine with the contemporary interpretation of Chef Alexandre Silva, one of the leading chefs of the new generation, which in Marmòris creates dishes with authentic flavors using produce from the fields surrounding Vila Viçosa. The dishes are accompanied by an excellent wine list, with special emphasis on wines from Alentejo. The ex-libris of the restaurant is a large marble table made from a single block of stone that was discovered in the owners quarry. The Stone Spa is excavated in a marble quarry with 900 m2. The beauty and the strength of its original walls dripping water and authentic initial formation of small stalactites make its atmosphere absolutely unique. It has 4 treatment rooms, an indoor and outdoor heated swimming pool with hydrotherapy circuit, including massage beds, hammam and a small gym.The rituals have the signature of the Switzerland worldwide leader brand in cosmetics with active oxygen - Karin Herzog - the brand chosen by princess Kate Middleton, Madonna, among others, for their effectiveness and revolutionary technology. The Marmòris is the perfect venue for business and social events. The hotel has rooms for between 10 and 250 people, in addition to outdoor spaces ideal for cocktails or coffee breaks. For the breaks we can organize wine and olive oil tastings, cooking lessons and outdoor activities such as visits to the marble quarries, the wineries, or even meals in the countryside.Vila Viçosa is one of the most monumental cities of Portugal, with architectural gems like the Royal Palace, the Castle, 6 museums, numerous palaces, churches and convents. Close by guests can visit Évora, Estremoz, Badajoz (Spain) and Elvas, in addition to a number of traditional villages and breathtaking natural landscapes of the Alentejo. Vila Viçosa is also an ideal base to discover the rich existing tourist routes in the Alentejo: Wine, Olive Oil, Marble, Castles, Megalithic, among others.

Excellent hotel experience somewhat spoiled by an abundance of noisy kids in the pool ,100% spoiled Portuguese boys (which seems to be the norm) My advise is to visit during school time . The facilities are very good and well thought out. the place is filled with beautiful marble the staff are faultless and polite a real gem

Hotel's Favorite
Beautiful hotel, great rooms and excellent service. We had the best wine tasting with sommelier Artur. One negative point, very strong smell from I guess cleaning products, mainly in lobby and common areas. Warning if you are allergic. Except from that we had a great stay. The spa is really fresh and relaxing

This is a wonderful, unique hotel in Vila Vicosa. It's owner also owns one of the many marble quarries in the area and has made extensive use of Portuguese marble as well as marble from other countries in the décor of the hotel. Our room was the Arabe suite which was one of the largest, most opulent suites we've ever stayed in. Daily housekeeping was thorough and efficient and our bed was extremely comfortable. The daily breakfast was full of many different dishes, including typical European breakfast food, as well as pastries, eggs and sausage. Service at the hotel and dining areas was attentive and professional. The one issue, which seems to be unique to Portugal since I've never run into it before, is that one Nespresso coffee pod was provided each morning for free and each additional pod was 2 Euros each. Every hotel I've ever stayed in has always offered free in-room coffee. But, in the grand scheme of things, this was minor annoyance since coffee was plentiful in the dining area and included with breakfast.

Very far away from a 5 stars… the decoration is odd, with a lot of mixing between materials/strange colors and really bad taste lightning (always very white contrasting with yellow walls…). The living room is something really strange and almost scary…. The room is spacious but the tv inside the mirror solution doesn’t work by day with the reflex… The breakfast is ok, but again very far from a real 5stars. The breakfast/dinning room is too dark in the inside with a very strange deco… The outside pool is the best part, but again with some doubtful taste details. The staff was really nice and friendly, for sure the best part of the experience!

This is a five star hotel in the quiet town of Vila Vicosa. Interiors are all local marble which is nicely done. Our room was very large if a bit dated, bed great, bathroom a little dim. Pool was large and popular. Gym less successful with old equipment. Breakfast very nice buffet or a la carte. There is an connected restaurant which is where we had some issues with service - sort of arrogant and condescending. We were there on a bike trip which was great but otherwise not a ton to do in town once you have seen the palace and the castle.

Great welcome at reception and car soon parked in their underground area. Excellent room with balcony overlooking the pool area - Upgrade is well worthwhile. Hotel was almost too quiet at times but most guests are out on tours during the day. If you like marble then this town and hotel are for you !

We called the day before and asked for connecting rooms so that we could stay close to the kids - staff went out of their way to make it happen. The rooms are incredibly comfortable, the decor is superb - my 7yr old said the rooms looked royal 😀 The restaurant is excellent - the sommelier recommended the most amazing local red wine, delicious starters and main courses - we had the bochechas de porco preto and bacalhau à Zé do pipo - both cooked to perfection. What a pleasant stay in Alentejo - we will be back

5-star hotel which is certainly very aesthetically pleasing to the eye but perhaps its food lets it down a bit? The decor is stunning and worth a visit just for that alone. Perhaps caught it on a bad day so will have to make a return visit.

This is a wonderful place! We meant to stay just 2 nights, and ended up there for 4. The room was huge, well appointed with a very comfortable bed and nice bath. Off a large outdoor plaza. Breakfast was extensive, and they had the coolest ever kids only buffet. Pool is great all year round. But the thing that makes it outstanding is the staff. My wife fell ill, and they went out of their way to help, and make us welcome - we felt as if we were home!

The Hotel is very beautiful, with lots of marble all around. The rooms are very nice, large, well kept. Breakfast is outstanding. This magnificent place has two shortcomings : you have to to park your car yourself in a parking abt 50 yards distant. In hotels of that standard and price, you would expect this service to be provided. And the food is typically but only alentejan food which you like or you don't, we don't. An alternative international menu should be available. So dinner is outside . . .
