We stayed here before and valued its relatively close proximity to Florence, Vinci and Sienna. We were forgiving of its dilapidated state including doors literally falling off their hinges and the tired state of the decor that really needing refurbishment. We put it down to rustic charm. But the experience has been soured by our planned visit this year that we paid for in January and the establishment has failed to deliver on. Despite repeatedly stating in writing that they would refund our 1,220 Euros having been unable to accommodate our visit, they have failed to do so and ignored all efforts to contact them. They have kept our money, failed to accommodate our visit and lost all future business from us ever again. Be warned and be very careful. They only want you for your money.

Response from Monica Cozzi, Marketing at Villa il Poggiale Dimora Storica

we are sorry for your disappointmen tbut we think it is a bit unfair. the villa is ancient but every year all the decor and fittings are checked and refurbished.. the hinges in the hall are not falling apart, they are mounted in the Tuscan style which provide a more strong resistence for the painted wood to humidity and dryness along the seasons and you 'll find them in all palaces and villas of our region. as for the refunding we are the only establishment in Tuscany which gives back the money: the Italian governement states that clients should have vouchers when a booking is cancelled because of the covid19.. as I told you we'll have instead the pleasure to refund you at the end of the season, so you will receive your money back within a few days. these are terrible times but we try to do our best.

Hotel's Favorite
We wanted a little bit of chill time between visiting Lucca and Florence and then Cinque Terre. The choice of hillside villas or farms is endless but we fell upon this one and I’m so glad we did! Firstly, we opted for dinner, bed and breakfast. I’m always a little concerned when we go for a dinner inclusive rate as you become a captive audience. No such worry at all here! As an example, dinner is four courses - first night was little tempura cheese parcels, followed by pasta with the most delicious homemade pesto, pork fillet with roasted vegetables and then creme brûlée. All served on a delightful terrace. Oh and a great wine menu! Breakfast is extensive and plentiful and has the yellowest eggs I’ve ever seen! We booked direct with the hotel ( the most delightful owner I have had the pleasure to meet), Do do this, you will get the best rate. The villa has always been a residence and it really does feel like you are part of someone’s home rather than some faceless, corporate hotel. The swimming pool is lovely , comfy beds surround and towels are provided each day. We opted for a superior room but were shown several before settling on one. It was huge with a huger comfy bed and very efficient air con. Plentiful hot water with shower and bath and great water pressure. We visited San Gimignano one day and you aren’t far from Sienna if you want to venture out. Free parking on site. We were lucky enough to sit and watch a fabulous lightning show on our second evening as the view across the Tuscan Hills is spectacular. Every single member of the team is friendly and personable. No one can do enough for you. We even opted for massages on our third day as the weather was changeable. We have one night here left and I’m writing it now so that I make sure I get everything down that’s going to make people want to book. I cannot recommend this place highly enough so all I’d say is, if you’re wavering, don’t. Just do it. You’ll not regret it!

Just Tuscany as you ever dreamt about it... Imagine a magnificent house sitting at the end of the long lawn with high trees bordering each side, and overlooking a peaceful Tuscan valley. Just great. Rooms are very nice (we were lucky to be upgraded) and have this lovely antique touch. Very nice pool where you can relax after a long day of visiting the region. Great location with easy access to SIenna, San Gimigniano, etc... We did not try the restaurant but the breakfast is really good with nice outddor seating. Very welcoming staff with great service.

We spent such a nice moment there. The staff has been really kind to us. We eat at the restaurant at night, food was delicious. Sunset time from the house was amazing. We enjoyed being there and will recommend it!

The villa the moment you arrive gives you the feeling of coming home. The beautiful garden the amazing view the incredible house with its beautiful ancient rooms and not to forget the crew under the guidance of the lovely Monica. Once you unpack you feel like in a warm bath. Il Poggiale offers you EVERYTHING you want for an unforgettable time. And yeah, if you can think of something extra, just ask and the crew will provide you with it. One less nice thing however, if you had planes to visit some other beautiful sites of Tuscany, you can forget about it. Il Poggiale embrace you with love and care. Until next time take care!
