The hotel is beautiful and for the most part the service was exceptional and would go back. We were two couples spending a long weekend with the hotel and unfortunately one of our rooms experienced challenges with opening the door, very odd system to be honest, and there was no hot water. The door issue was resolved however the hot water was at first questioned several times as if to insist my friends were not turning on the shower correctly (and we are Italians and speak Italian) so we demonstrated that the issue was in fact as we mentioned. Most of our days were spent out and about coming home quite late. Unfortunately the problem went unresolved for the entire stay. Upon checking out we were asked how was your stay. To which we replied excellent however the hot water issue was never resolved. They called for a manager and he insisted we should have told them more that the problem was not resolved. We were a bit surprised by this comment because they were well aware and it is their responsibility to ensure it was resolved. All this to say, it was a simple opportunity to do something to account for the lack of hot water during the stay and it was surprising for this hotels stature to have done nothing especially at the rate per night. I hope they take note and ensure to take proper measures to resolve future issues.…
we just got back from a backroads hiking trip. this was the hotel they used for their premiere package. unfortunately, this hotel was subpar in many ways. the rooms, though large, are so poorly lit, we had our iphone light on just to see. the air conditioning was turned off because of the change of season. unfortunately, our room, on the second floor was boiling hot. the only way to get it to cool off was to have a oscillating fan brought up from the front desk and keep the windows open all night. bugs and noise galore, and still uncomfortable. the front desk staff was condescending and rude for the most part. breakfast is supposed to be ready to go by 7:30. nope, not so much. 7:45 to 8 most days. the highlight was the bar and the bartender, who was just the best. i would not have chosen this hotel but it was part of our package, so we suffered through.…
We stayed so we could visit the Palio which was arranged by the hotel. The hotel and grounds are so attractive and room excellent. We stayed in the old part. The Palio was cancelled at short notice due to rain, but the hotel gave us a free room and arranged for us to view from the same window over looking the race track the next day. Staff could not do enough. A couple of strange things, when you have paid so much for a room they charge 10 euros for a fried egg. Breakfast is good but never had to pay for a fried egg. They also have an excellent spa with salt pool and indoor pool with jets etc. But some days they wanted to charge 40 euros to use. This ment we only ever saw 2 other people in it the whole of our stay. A small bottle of beer was 16 euros. Its not all so much the cost but the hassle of not knowing whats included and what you have to sign for. I mention this as it might irratate some people. But we had an excellent stay and cant thank them enough.…
Our expectations were high on arrival as it is a lovely location. Firstly can I say that the staff were very friendly but the Hotel is under staffed and under resourced and very badly managed. The profit for the owners is more important than the guests. We booked the hotel as it had two great looking restaurants, The day before we were due to arrive the hotel confirmed via email that one restaurant was closed. Not a problem we think as there is an outdoor courtyard. When we checked in we tried to book a table and were told that unless we paid 300 euro for their gala event we couldn't eat at the restaurant. The alternative was a snack menu or there was a pizza restaurant we could drive to. Not what you would expect from a luxury hotel. Following day we had a good time by the pool but wasps were a constant problem with a number of guests being stung and no attempt by the hotel to deal with the issue. Ordered lunch which took an hour to arrive for a salad. We complained then and on departure which was met with a shrug of the shoulders. I challenge the management to justify why the service was so poor. I accept that staffing is a problem but then a good hotel would make an allowance. Please steer clear of this hotel unless you have an assurance that their quality has changed. Also budget for very, very expensive drinks as per other guests comments.…
This was an extremely nice hotel that had a breathtaking historical campus, Delicious Michelin star restaurants, And I had an amazing time there! There are only two drawbacks: 1. The cleaning. It was ok Just not up to par with other hotels I’ve been in and I found a broken bowl full of dirt under my bed. 2. The Wi-Fi. It had probably one of the worst Wi-Fis ever and I had to use lots of my precious roaming data. That is why I’m only giving it four stars. But other than that it was a great and wonderful experience we made lots of memories and I definitely recommend.
Potentially amazing but very poorly managed! I stayed (I’m still here as I’m writing) for 3 days on a road trip in Italy with the family. The service before coming gave me very high expectations with pre-check-in and a nice brochure of activities to do while we are here. Unfortunately that’s not what happened, here are some of my experiences: 1. We booked 2 prestige rooms but nowhere it states that some rooms are inside the 13th century building and others are in an extension outside the main gate, the beautiful view from the pics you see in the photo gallery are obviously different. So make sure to ask when you book. 2. The day we arrived we went straight to the pools which are great for family with beautiful environment but we first ordered sparkling water and were given plastic bottles without glasses or ice. I ordered a burger which arrived without any topping like salad or sauce , we then realized that the burger was probably for another table. I didn’t care, just thought that waiter couldn’t speak English or was inexperienced but no problem we are on holidays after all. Bear in mind that the burger was something like 25 euro. 3. Breakfast- that was one of the most comical scene, the waiters looked confused, we asked for coffee multiple times after 20 min we get served a full coffee cup of espresso instead of coffee, after trying the fake orange juice from the “fresh orange juice” I asked are real fresh juice which arrived at the end where people asked us twice if we had finished, making us wanting to leave so they could clear the table. There is very little selection of fruits, very average selection of breads and the most crazy thing in a luxury hotel, if you don’t want the commercial scramble eggs you have to pay to get an omelette!!! The service was so poor I decided to cancel our dinner at the hotel not wanting to relive that same experience. 4. The jacuzzi area is closing at 7pm, so today we swam till 6:30pm but when we tried to reach the jacuzzi I was told by a lady that she closed it because she had no one to look after it. You can come back tomorrow. What kind of answer is that? 5. The mini bar & laundry service prices are just ridiculous, I ll upload it here later but from memory it’s like 12 euro to was one underwear. I went to complain to front office following another lady who was doing the same. The table next to us at breakfast were laughing about it as it was so bizarre. The facilities are amazing but at this level of pricing you expect a very different level of service.…
Beautiful historic hotel in the Tuscan countryside. I stayed three nights as part of Backroads Tuscan hiking trip and had a great experience. No issue with keys or service, in fact I had great service from the front desk, spa attendants and restaurant staff. Loved the breakfast, spacious and beautifully decorated room, and the amazing setting in a 10th century town. The pool area was beautiful too. They do need some heavier umbrella stands as several blew over during a breezy afternoon. Overall it was a wonderful stay.
They mixed our bags and gave us someone else’s and another person was given ours. After 20 minutes of waiting, they gave us a room which we later found out wasn’t ours. It took them an hour to find and give us the correct room and I’m writing the review as I wait for them to find my bags.
We stayed at the Castel Monastero for six nights. The staff were fantastic, friendly and helpful and carried our heavy suitcases up very steep staircases! We ended up eating there every night as we didn't have a car and it just became too complicated to go out (we had a guide during the day to take us around). The food in the restaurant was great and the staff even better (special kudos to the very enthusiastic and friendly Manuela). Breakfast was a lovely buffet with the option of ordering other dishes as well. The hotel is beautiful, our room was very large and comfortable with a view of a castle from the window. I had a great massage at the spa. Unfortunately it was too cold to enjoy the beautiful pool. You feel like you have time traveled back to the 15th century (but with electricity and plumbing!) I would stay there again in a minute.…
