We spent three nights in Terrazza Sul Mare and to be honest; whether you like it will totally depend on how “Italian” you like your accommodation. What do I mean by that? Well for starters, some of the staff speak little or no English – not a worry for us with our basic grasp of Italian. A charming lady in reception did have a solution, (of sorts), in the form of a smartphone app. This would translate her typed Italian, into a facsimile of spoken English. On the whole it worked, (and provided some laughs) and it was a good indication of how eager the people running the show were to ensure your stay would be a pleasant one. We had the ground floor room around the rear of the building, which had been designed for guests with mobility difficulties. This resulted in a very spacious room and bathroom but some of the fixtures and fittings were becoming a little “tired”. For example, the first time I tried locking to door, the door handle fell off. Easy enough to get back on but it required a little “delicacy” for the next couple of days. The shower head resolutely refused to remain in the position required and again needed a little makeshift “repair” to fix the problem. All the fixtures were of decent quality by the way. These issues were not because they were old and tired but by design. The final niggle was, (as previous reviewers have noted), the breakfast. I would agree with most of the comments but obviously, the chap in charge must have read some of these reviews and attempted to rectify the complaints. Every morning he returned from a trip to the local bakery with an absolutely enormous selection of fresh bread and pastries. During our stay I must have sampled every delicious Puglian speciality – marvellous. How much that must have cost him is anyone’s guess. There wasn’t a huge range of fresh fruit on display but what they had was plentiful. There just isn’t the space or facilities for a hot US/UK style breakfast but you’re in Italy – so just go with the flow. Now the good bits. The staff here are simply the best. They go the extra mile to make you feel welcome. Dispensing some good local advice, (in Italian), and showing a genuine concern that your stay is a pleasant one. If you are arriving by car, it’s a dream location. We had driven down from Ostuni and that was a parking nightmare. Even if the spaces directly in front of the property are full, there are plenty of free parking spaces within a few feet of the front door. The location is excellent for access to the historic centre of Otranto. Within minutes you were either in the Piazza Castello or entering by one of the old gates next to the Torre Matta. The location was also very quiet at night, which did surprise us somewhat. As we returned on our first night, we noted that the very popular restaurant, (very popular indeed), literally next door, had an outdoor garden area. Any thoughts of noise from here were immediately dispelled and all three nights were absolutely serene. Finally, the reason I am submitting this review later than my others for Puglia, was that I simply forgot. It was only when we were discussing the trip, (during a typically, grey, wet, autumn day in London), and were waxing lyrical about how Otranto impressed us so much, that I realised I hadn’t submitted a review for La Terrazza Sul Mare. OK, it’s a little walk from the ocean, (but still only about 250 metres away), and the rooms are not perfect but factor in the excellent location, free parking and eager, friendly staff and you have a winner. Highly recommended.

...or Terrace on the Roundabout would be more appropriate as the sea is still 300 m away! Not really a problem, but the name is somewhat misleading. Anything else I did not like? Well, during our stay, the owners were never around. When you arrive and ring the bell, they will open the door from wherever they might be (apparently they own an agriturismo somewhere) and you will find your room key card on the empty frontdesk. Not really a problem, but a bit uncommon. Apart from that our stay (3 nights) was excellent: big, spotless room with an excellent bed and an efficient, yet quiet aircon system. In the morning, a very charming and helpful lady is around to prepare an excellent breakfast and outstanding espresso macchiato. A short walk will take you to the historic city center and to the port, an even shorter one will lead you to Class 80: this is seafood at its best, reasonably priced and run by an enthousiastic young team!

We stayed for 3 nights the room and bathroom were a good size but there was. A lack of storage space in the bedroom and bathroom. It's clean and the bed was comfortable. Free parking outside was a bonus. The best thing about this B&B was the location. It's a couple of minutes walk to the main restaurants and town centre. The negatives unfortunately breakfast was a let down. Two of the mornings we were there the was no real fruit option. Everything is artificial in packets and convenience food. Eggs would have been a nice option and slightly healthier than what was in offer. The other negative was there is never anyone around to ask questions etc with the exception of breakfast time. You can text but this seems inpersonal. Also it's quite noisy in the morning as all the bedrooms downstairs enter directly into the breakfast room. We would probably stay again but request an upstairs room and eat out for breakfast.

We only had one night in Otranto so location mattered. The host and hostess who own the place are excellent people. Very welcoming and go out of their way to make your stay comfortable. Provided us parking right in front of the hotel. Helped us with our luggage. Gave us good advice on restaurants. And after that were very non-intrusive on the remainder of our stay. The hotel is only 5 minutes walk from the port and the old town. Breakfast the next morning was well provided. I would highly recommend the place to anyone going to Otranto and needing parking as well. Wi-Fi is free.

I spend 2 nights in this B&B, I would say today is the 15 days since I started traveling in Italy, this is the best place. I would willing to give more than excellent if I could. even it was a very bad weather yesterday, Salvatore and Serena picked me up from the train station, they are both very friendly and warmhearted for everything. They made cake for my breakfast, even I was the only customer here. The room is very clean, shower 24hrs and all the facilities in the room are automatic, air conditioner and window, it's definitely more than 4 stars standard. The breakfast please see the photos I put, this was really the best breakfast that I have ever had in a B&B. The price compare with the quality here you would never regret your choice. I am not a comment type normally I don't give rate for the place I stayed, this is the one I really want to give all the best words to say thank you for the lovely couple host, I had a great time in Otranto because of the first impression from them. This is a place with luxury experience but reasonable price, I will come back one day XD. (Yujia from China)
