Detailed Reviews
It's very easy to understand why many people return to this hotel year after year. Its in a perfect location, 3 minutes level walk to centre of Lixouri and has absolutely everything you need. Janeta and her daughter are amazing hosts and give the whole place a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
On a practical level, the rooms are spread over 3 floors (there is a lift) mine was on the back overlooking beautiful countryside and beneftting from afternoon/evening sun. Housekeeping is to a very high standard, rooms were cleaned daily and towels/bedding changed once during my week long stay. I had a fridge and a kettle too. A safety deposit box, WiFi and air conditioning were all included at no extra cost, which was a lovely surprise, I have previously been charged extra for these in Greece.
The pool and gardens are absolutely gorgeous and very well maintained. There are plenty of sun loungers, so even when the hotel is full, enough for everyone. Breakfast is a self service buffet, it has something for all tastes and was all fresh and of good quality. Snacks, drinks and ice creams are available all day. All at sensible prices, so no need to leave the hotel in search of lunch.
I honestly can't think of anything negative to say about this hotel and would certainly return!

We went to kefalonia towards the end of August and we absolutely loved our stay. The rooms are small but have a fridge, good air conditioning and despite the small bathroom it's the only one in Greece that I've been too where the bathroom doesn't flood following a shower.
Breakfast was absolutely fine. Yes there is the same selection every morning but you can pick and choose what you want to vary it. Lovely breakfast room and you could eat outside if you wished.
The gardens here are absolutely immaculate and some of the loveliest I've seen. There are lots of sunbeds by the pool and also in the garden area. The pool was really refreshing and it was kept clean. There was food served till 7pm so it was really easy to order food in the afternoon if you didn't want to leave the pool. Food was reasonably priced too which was great and definitely encouraged us to stay in the grounds rather than head out for lunch.
The main square is 5 minutes away. Lots of lovely bars and restaurants and despite being vegetarian we managed to find something to eat every night.
Look forward to being able to return one day, as this was the perfect relaxing week away before heading back to work.

We had a wonderful stay at La Cite. Yes the rooms are cosy, and the balcony perhaps the tiniest we have ever had anywhere in this typically basic Greek accommodation... but the friendliness of the staff and the care that is put into ensuring that all guests have a comfortable stay more than compensates.
During our ten night stay at La Cite the room was cleaned daily and towels/sheets changed regularly. It was great to have a safe and air conditioning included free of charge. The room had eveything else we needed - hairdryer, simple toiletries, small fridge. Breakfast was more than ample and set us up for the day. We enjoyed the pool area - plenty of loungers and shaded areas for everyone.
The location of La Cite is perfect - just a five minute walk to the main square, and a further five minutes to the ferry/local beach/bus station.
As mentioned by many in the reviews, the staff at La Cite put their heart and souls into ensuring everyone has a great stay. They were always on hand to help, whatever the request. It is easy to see why people revisit year after year. Thank you for a lovely stay!

We booked to stay here as a last minute holiday through Jet2, and we were not disappointed.
While the hotel rooms are a little dated, they were spotlessly clean, the bed was comfortable and the shower was decent.
We had a room with a larger balcony overlooking the garden and the view was just lovely (we like to sit on a balcony after coming back from our evening meal).
The included breakfast was more than adequate and you had the option to order a cooked breakfast if that’s what you prefer (reasonable prices too).
The pool was lovely and kept clean, as were the surrounding gardens which were well cared for. Plenty of sun-beds and the option to sit around the pool or in the gardens.
The daytime meals were great and plenty of choice.
What makes this hotel are the people who work there. Nothing is too much trouble and they were all friendly.
If I was going to try and find fault it would be noise levels. The cleaners start early (around 8am) and anyone chattering if they come back late, the noise would definitely wake you up as it echoes through the corridors.. Saying that though, most people during our stay were settled in by10pm and up at 8am for breakfast.
Lixouri itself is a working town and we loved it. Great restaurants, the town square that comes alive on an evening with greek families enjoying each other’s company and various entertainment. The friendliness of the locals and feeling safe. Would love to go back. The hotel is a short walk from the square and is ideally placed.
Clientele at the hotel is mainly older couples (over 50’s) and it is suited to that.

The hotel is located in a quiet residential area within a 5 minute walk of the main square. The hotel is clean and the pool and surrounding gardens are immaculate. All the staff were very friendly and welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. There is a good choice of continental breakfast and the meals available during the day until 7pm, were delicious and good value for money. We would definitely stay here again and recommend this hotel to our family and friends. In our opinion the hotel should have a higher star rating.

I stayed here for a week with my 2 kids. The hotel is in a good location and the gardens are lovely. The staff are beautiful people and have lots of time for you. I had some lovely conversations with the ladies on reception. Just made me feel so welcome . The cleaners are brilliant too they work so hard and always smiling. The whole atmosphere is just lovely .
The air conditioning in room is brilliant and the electric shutters keep sun out so you can have a lay in if needed .
The location is ideal , only a short walk to town. The food prices are reasonable in the area. I will definitely be coming back again soon.
Only negative is I need go on a diet now as the food was so nice and portions big is easy to overeat .
Can’t wait to be back. Next time I am going do 2 weeks , one week wasn’t enough. Xxx

+1
Having been to Lixouri a number of times but never stopped at the La Cite we decided to make it our base and as we hadn't been in a couple of years because of the C word and that's "Covid before anybody starts " We booked a month . The Hotel is spotless and the staff are super friendly and incredibly hard working nothing is too much trouble the Greeks really are the nicest people on the planet . The room was typical Greek bit dated but a good size , comfortable beds a good size bathroom with plenty of hot water serviced every day , air conditioning worked well our only problem was the balcony was a little small as we do like to play cards in the evening . Breakfast was the normal eggs , cheese , ham , fruit you get the picture . Pool area is fantastic plenty sun loungers a new really nice seating area had been constructed offering plenty of shade to eat your dinner or just have a drink . Location is great just a short walk to the square and no hills to climb , lots off folk having been coming here for years which is great would we return definitely ...

Just back from 11 nights staying at La Cite in Lixouri. It is a small, simple, well maintained hotel which is made exceptional by the staff who work there. Janetta, Thekie and team go out of their way to ensure that everyone is happy and well looked after and pride themselves on making people feel that they are part of a big family!
There is a simple but tasty continental breakfast included and a snack bar providing reasonably priced food through the day until 7pm.
The rooms were basic but clean and adequate for us. The only downside was a very small balcony, but the views from it over the countryside were lovely.
The pool area is clean, the gardens are immaculately cared for and there are enough sun beds for everyone, so no early morning rush for beds ( unless you must have a particular spot!!)
It is 5 minutes walk from the hotel into the town which has numerous restaurants and a number of bars which we found to be all very good.
It is also convenient to take the ferry across to Argostoli, the capital , which is worth a visit. It runs every 1/2 hour and is 3 euros each way per person.
We didn’t hire a car but walked to the local bus station in the town which took us to Xi beach- again very well priced at 2 euros each way.
All in all, a lovely relaxing holiday and we would love to return to La Cite one day!

My wife and I spent 10 nights at Hotel La Cite in June 2023, for a cheap holiday in the sun, and it was perfect for that purpose. The hotel is well run, the staff are all excellent and very friendy. I cannot praise all the staff enough, Janetta and the team were all outstanding and lovely people. The pool area and the grounds, in particular, are nice and very well maintained indeed. The hotel's gardener, who was there working most evenings, really deserves praise. He does an excellent job.
The hotel's location is great as it is near enough to all Lixouria's bars and resturaunts for easy access (5min walk, max), but far enough away for a peaceful stay. We certainly had no complaints whatsoever about the value for money we received at Hotel La Cite. I would certainly recommend this hotel if, like us, you were after a quiet and cheap holiday in the sun. There are a few things that worth mentioning, which certainly aren't intended as critisism just for the awareness of potential guests...
1. Our room was quite small, to the point that my wife couldn't sit at the dressing table as it was so close to the bed.
2. The pool is 2.8m at the deep end and probably unsuitable for children (not that any kids were guests during our stay).
3. The breakfast isn't particularly "inspiring" and there's not really any excuse for tinned peaches, orange/apple squash (not juice) and powdered yoghurt in Greece. We ended up suplimenting it with fresh fruit and yogurt from local supermarkets, for which there are many. Not really a problem, just for awareness.
4. The age demographic of the average guest at Hotel La Cite is at least 65+, all British. I'm in my late-50s, my wife is in her early-50s and for most of the week we were easily the youngest guests there by some margin. Which doesn't happen very often these days. A lot of the guests seemed to be regulars who came back year after year.
5. There are plenty of lovely beaches on the island, but you will need a car. I think you'd be a bit limited without one and miss out on a lot.
That said a very nice, quiet, welcoming hotel in a great location, which I would recommend if that's what you're after.

Absolutely superb holiday from start to finish
Only 5 / 10 minutes walk to town square and port with its bars and restaurants yet situated in a quiet residential area.
Has the most stunning grounds and pool area .Sunbeds available around pool or in the manicured gardens.Even though the hotel was full during our stay there were plenty to go around so getting up early to reserve is absolutely not necessary,in fact not once during my 11 day stay did I see all of them occupied. From next year Jet2 selling this as an “ Adults Only” hotel. Most of the guests are +60 .Love the fact there is no loud music around the pool which gives a real relaxing feel. The pool closes at 7pm.
Small pool bar serving drinks and snacks throughout the day and evening
Lovely continental breakfast
Rooms either overlook the front/ peninsula or rear / farmland
Rooms equipped with safe, fridge, kettle, air con and balcony ( some have smaller balconies )
The hotel is spotlessly clean
The staff are incredible. They are rightfully proud of this wonderful hotel.
Guests become family and like us many return time after time.

Yes, there is. We thank you very much!

Janeta is very helpful. We've been to this hotel many times and when my boy was 1 year old they provided old fashion greek large cot for us. However my boy decided to sleep with us on double bed.
