I spent 3 nights there in September 2015. The Rhine valley is a beautiful area with a long tradition in wine making (Riesling variety). The hotel faces the river Rhine, yet a heavy traffic highway is in front of the hotel making the river inaccessible. The train station is approximately 20min away on foot. The hotel itself looks very nice...

This was my third stay at Hotel Schwan, this time I stayed at the affiliated Gästehaus Ilse which is located next door to Hotel Schwan. Rooms are basic but clean, with flat screen TV and free WLAN. Breakfast at Hotel Schwan is excellent. Scrumptious Buffet with fresh fruit salad.Good coffee! Service is always extremly friendly and helpful. All this for...

Wonderful old hotel on the Rhine River, great view. We stayed in the main hotel and the room was very large, the bathroom was huge, everything was clean, the bed comfortable. The staircase was awesome. Yes, it was decorated as 'old', but I find that desirable in a hotel established in 1628. The breakfast was traditional German, and very good....

The room was noisy - towards a busy big road - Sleeping even with earplugs was difficult. The room was an o.k size, and despite being renovated, felt grubby, not looked after. Food in the restaurant was good.

This hotel, which was established in 1628, is old, rustic and lacking in up-to-date amenities. The bathroom is small and was most likely added to the rooms many years ago. The hotel is located along the Rhine River and on the busy street, Rheinalle. However, the proximity and easy accessibility to the Frankfurt Airport (38 km) makes this hotel and...

We were very disappointed by this stay. The B&B in the Gästehaus for 78€ is a rip-off. The rooms are basic, old-fashioned, so is the dining and breakfast area. Germany has lots of nice, designy and good-priced hotels. This one is the opposite. The website does not reflect reality at all! I had a bad feeling when the hotel asked...

Similar experience to others above... Rooms were uncomfortable, outdated and the bathrooms haven't been updated in decades.

The Hotel Schwan is the nastiest, most uncomfortable place you can imagine. While originally booked in the "four star" main house, upon arrival, I was given a room in the "not rated" guest house next door, and it was the worst experience of my entire trip. I was told that I could not be moved to the main house, which...

We stayed here for two nights to attend a wedding in the area. The village is charming, as are the neighboring villages and the Rheingau generally. Very old, very well-preserved, some of the best white wine around. The Hotel is also old and staying there, you get an idea of what life would've been like in years past. Our room...

We arrived to find our room up three flights of stairs in an adjoining building to the hotel. While the service elevator was working in the morning, it never worked again during our stay. The hotel is not air conditioned and our room had one window. It was stiflingly hot during this stay. Our traveling companions had even worse conditions...
