Having stayed at BlackRock previously as a couple in winter we returned this summer for a week with the whole family, 4 generations from 6 months to 88 years! The chalet is beautiful, homely yet luxurious. The facilities are excellent, we all loved sitting outside with a glass of wine looking over the picture postcard mountain view from the back garden. The chalet has everything you need and more. Lizzy and Paul were excellent and helpful at every point. Lizzy recommended and helped us arrange a private chef and recommended some great activities locally. Unforgettable family holiday.

Our extended family of 12 stayed here for a fabulous summer break. We ranged in age from 10 to 75 years and there was something to suit everyone. The chalet itself was designed perfectly and there was more than enough room for us all, with plenty of amenities: hot tub, pool, sun deck, BBQ, table tennis and sauna. You can hike directly from the chalet or walk into Les Houches and take the local gondola onto the mountain trails. Liz and Paul recommended some great summer activities from the ice caves in the glacier to mountain luging, paragliding, lake swimming and ropes courses. The views overlooking the Massif De Mont Blanc were stunning, especially from the hot tub, and we cannot wait to return in the winter. Chamonix in the summertime was literally a breath of fresh air! Thanks, Liz and Paul for making our week in the mountains absolutely fantastic.

We returned to Blackrock again for our annual ski trip. Initial concerns over a later booking than normal and a lack of snow were unfounded. A dump of snow two days before our arrival ensured there was plenty to keep all skiers happy. But enough of conditions as this is a Blackrock review, not a review of the resort or snow conditions. This year saw a change of staff in a number of areas at the chalet but no change in service level. Lizzy stills manages to organise and motivate everyone (staff and guests alike!) in her inimitable school teacher style that leaves you oddly happy to have been managed. In truth it is lovely to switch the brain off and hand it all over to Blackrock. The vibe is one of family; where respect for each other is met with a high level of service, efficiency and general desire to help that leaves you with a warm glow inside, feeling cared for. The catering was to its usual very high standard and of sufficient quantity that we only made it to the cheese course twice in 7 days! The wines were excellent as usual, as were the aperitifs and canapés pre-dinner, especially the salmon croquettes with caviar; simply out of this world! This year they had a new driver who was simply amazing; a gnarly ex-marine who could kill you with a look, he was actually a true gentleman and very amiable, guiding us to the better slopes and willing to shuffle us around the resort at a moments notice (including a later pick-up from a local bar when we had consumed too many goldfish bowls of beer!) The highlight of this year was skiing the Vallee Blanche. On the agenda for the past 4 years we finally achieved it as our hosts announced on day 2 that the conditions were as good as they were likely to get. Lizzy and Paul arranged everything for us; guides, crampons, ropes, avalanche transceivers, everything was thought of and nothing too much trouble. All managed in their no-fuss way to ensure we just got on with enjoying ourselves. After a 20km ski down a glacier we really enjoyed the luxury of the twilight jacuzzi that evening, emerging like prunes just in time for aperitifs and canapés. The rooms were as comfortable as ever and the linen as crisp and luxurious as we remember from years past. Whilst we love the way we are pampered and cared for by Lizzy and the team as fully catered guests, we noted that more people are using the chalet on a self-catering basis. Whilst we have no personal experience of this the chalet is very well equipped and easy to move around and use as we learned on the one night of the week we catered for ourselves, and with a supermarket close to hand it was all very easy. So as ever I am thinking of skiing a different resort next year but know that we are very unlikely to find one with such a great service, where we are so well looked after, and offers such great value for money considering the high level of service, amenities and quality of food and accommodation. Will we try somewhere else next year? I’d like to think so but in truth I somehow doubt it. It is hard to see how anywhere else could top Blackrock. Blackrock rocks yet again. Well done guys. Five big gold stars from us!....see you next year! 😂
