Detailed Reviews
A large hotel set outside of a small village with absolutely nothing nearby and you need your own transport. The rooms are large and clean but the beds were more like children’s beds, just 128 inches off the floor, hard mattress and thin sheets, felt more like a hostel than a hotel.
Large children’s play area and pool and the hotel seems more set for families than for adults
Breakfast was adequate – poor quality tea and coffee and not a lot of choice on the breakfast buffet, the toaster was from the last century and a glorified grill pan, we were half board and the included dinner was also average, not hot, tasteless and no choice. Also being so far out there was nothing to do after dinner, the only bar area was outside and it was cold and damp (even in September) and had no atmosphere
Wi-Fi also only worked in the main reception area – overall very disappointing and on Western Europe standards would struggle to make 2*

We stayed here for 2 nights during a tour of Bulgaria in August 2012. We chose the location because it's in a beautiful area but still close to the lovely historic town of Veliko Tarnovo. We had 2 standard rooms in the main body of the hotel.
It was very quiet and peaceful during our stay, and that may in part be due to the fact that there were not too many guests staying there at the time. Or perhaps they were just very quiet.
You could stay here and never leave the hotel; there is a good, although not huge, swimming pool (although see below), fitness centre, restaurant and bar. Wireless Internet is available throughout the hotel. One rather nice feature is that the hotel encourages birds (house martins, in fact) to nest within the grounds of the hotel by providing nest boxes under the eaves, and the birds themselves are always flying around the hotel and singing. They were not a problem at night.
However the birds also like to swoop down to the swimming pool in order to drink from it, and, I suspect, one or two of them use it as a toilet as well, to judge by what I could see in the water. The water itself was not clear either. I didn't get ill from the swimming pool but I do suspect that I picked up an infection in one ear from it.
The rooms are not very big, and they are simply furnished and have wooden floors. Although everything was very clean, I was quite surprised to find what looked like spots of blood in several places on what was supposed to be a clean sheet on one of the beds. There are air-conditioning units on the wall of every room, but these seemed to do very little except act as a fan. I couldn't really detect any cold air coming out of them, in either of our two rooms. Also there is a sensor which switches off the AC when the window is open. Now to be fair I didn't point this out to the hotel staff, because we were able to leave open a window which was also thoughtfully provided with a mesh screen to stop insects getting in. The bathroom again is quite small, and there is no separate cubicle for the shower. This means that the whole bathroom floor gets completely wet. Moreover, this claims to be a 4-star hotel, but they managed to provide nothing but a small bar of soap and a cheap sachet of shampoo in the bathroom. I find this quite mean, especially given that the price of this place is somewhat higher than average for Bulgaria.
Breakfast runs until 10am, which is good if you want a lazy morning, and there is plenty to choose from. However we were told - when we asked - about coffee at breakfast, that we had to use the Nescafe machine at the breakfast buffet. Once again, to be forced to drink instant coffee in a four-star establishment, even when it comes out of a machine and it has a bit of froth on top, is just really mean and some way below what I would expect. Moreover, certain other guests were getting Lavazza coffee from the bar in the same room as the breakfast buffet. I don't understand why we were told one thing, but clearly something else applies to other guests. Also the "orange juice" was nothing of the sort. It may have once been orange juice, but watered down and with added sugar. Unfortunately this seems to be quite common in Bulgaria; but surely in a place like this, at this price, they could provide real orange juice, even if it comes out of one of the bottles I saw in the refrigerator?
The hotel is right on the outskirts or Arbanasi, and it doesn't enjoy some of the views over the hills and valley that other parts of the village have.
Despite the weaknesses, we did actually quite enjoy our time here and we would probably go back, as long as we don't pay the full asking price listed by the hotel, which is over 100Lv. per night.

My title kind of says it all...just stay away. The rooms are small, the beds uncomfortable, the shower really isn't a shower...more of a water wand that gets everything wet, the hotel staff are unfriendly (rude) and incompetent, the breakfasts are horrible and tasteless and the restaurant is marginal. I am very, very sorry I stayed there...hopefully my review will save someone else from staying there.

Food was ok, but not worth the money.
The pool was in bad condition, cockroaches lying on bottom and the area arround not cleaned.
The owner yelled that we hadn’t paid 5€ pr person, we paid and she dsappeared.
We were 3 of tottally 5 visitors around the pool and We could tell we were not welkommed at all.

Nice location, great outdoor views. The rooms was big enough. The AC was not working because of Covid 19. The pool is big enough. Breakfast was poor with the same options every day. The reception staff was verry kind and helpfull.

We came from America.. I am English and my husband Irish.. My mum and brothers now live in Bulgaria and we stayed for 2 weeks ( or would have) there was a wedding on the first sun we were there which ended at 3am with fireworks at 1:30 in the morning.. There was no sympathy for thi until the next sat there was another wedding in. I had no intention of having my three small children there since they had a hard time sleeping.. They stated they would put u up in another hotel .. We thought that was generous but said the kids would be gone it was fine.. In be known to us they ha rented our room out to the wedding party. They proceeded to make us leave myself and my three children 6,4 and 3... I Would NEVER recommend this hotel to anyone..

The hotel looks good, the garden is big, so is the restaurant and the terrace.
Rooms have decent size, bathrooms are clean. But the shower has no walls or curtain, when taking a shower there's water all over the bathrooms. It's very unpleasant.
They heat the room with air conditioning. This is not a proper heating method on cold weather. All you get is warm air, not warm enough for winter season. once you stop the air conditioning, it's cold again. not to mention the sound the devices makes all night long.
Breakfast is poor, same thing every morning, and it seems there's never enough food. Food for lunch and dinner is very good. We had HB, there were so many people in the restaurant for dinner. And the food brought was cold two nights in a row. otherwise, good taste, good price.
The hotel is not in the center of Arbanasi village but it's just five minutes away. Lots of parking places. Poor wifi that stopped all the time. they should definitely invest some more in heating and wifi.

The hotel is quite overpriced and the quality of rooms is definitely not the one of a four star hotel. Didn't have a shower in the room and the room was very small. Bathroom didn't have a shower cabin so when you take a shower it gets all wet. No wi-fi, TV with only 3-4 channels and very low quality bathroom supplies. Rooms are clean though, which is the only good thing about them.
The garden is very beautiful and it's the single nicest thing in that hotel.
Restaurant is low quality and the food is overpriced for its quality. Breakfast is not good - too few choices and not very good ones. Staff in the restaurant is polite.
Staff of the hotel is awful - they made several mistakes with our reservation so we had to write several emails to correct them for which no one apologised. They also tried to CHARGE US FOR A SUPPOSEDLY MISSING TOWEL UPON LEAVING which had never happened to us before... We declined to pay for the towel and the receptionist tried to convince us to pay by saying if we don't pay it she has to... Really made my opinion of that place even lower.

I have spent four nights at the premises.
On the plus side there is beatifull well kept garden and nice swimming pool and thats all.
On the negative side: This is not a four star hotel. Small rooms, uncomfortable beds, no balcony. In the bathroom we had three soaps and tree one dose shampoos and we never received more. No slipers, bathrobes or whatsoever.
Breakfast: Extremly low quality. There is no real butter, low quality meats and cheese. Fake jam and honey. Only one type of fruits. The only good thing was the banitsa. Bad coffee.
The restaurant is completly and totally overpriced. The food is with average quality, nothing special.
The manager is extremly rude and treat customers with no respect or whatsoever. He only wants to get your money and really do not care wheter you would be satisfied or would come again. What is more shoking he was extremly rude to me as a bulgarian customer. He sad to me - You bulgarians only come here to destroy my property without paying.
By accident, while ironing, I burnt the duvet cover and he insisted on me paying incredibly high amount of money for that. I was not shown any documents or whatsoever about the cost of the item. I was threatened that I can not leave the hotel without paying or buying a new duvet cover. We had a huge fight on the matter in front of the customers, he was shouting and had offended me several times.I felt horrible, paid the money and left.

Our first week in Bulgaria and we stayed here over the weekend. It was a group of 20 on a tour. We were not given any information regarding where we were staying, or the price (it was included in the tour), but seeing the reviews and realizing what type of hotel, I would agree that this was not a 4 star hotel/resort. We checked in and was greeted with a not so friendly hotel staff. I'm still not used to Bulgarians, but it appeared as if they were completely turned off by Americans. I have seen many others here in Bulgaria that would jump at the chance to help and speak with Americans, but this staff was the opposite. We split the rooms with two people each, with only one key. Like other reviews explained, the key is inserted into a spotlight wall to provided electricity to the room (probably what happened to another guest in the other review); when removed, there is ZERO power to the room. I didn't even realize there was a refrigerator. The rooms consisted of two twin sized beds and some other furniture. The bathroom/washroom/water closet was a shower, sink and toilet with no separation. A see through glass door separated the bathroom from the living area, not so comfortable for co-workers. We did not get a chance to use the air conditioner because a cold front moved in while there. We opened the window and was provided cool air with the screened window. Bottom line, small rooms, not much else.
We discovered that there was also a wedding party going on in the reception area, which seems to be common with this hotel. So at dinner, our servers were very slow to attend to us because they were also working the wedding party. However, the menus are in English and at reasonable prices. The food was actually very good. I ordered a veal soup (rate 3 out of 5), and the sampler meat and cheese platter (5 of 5). With a few bottles of wine (16 leg), the bill was not too bad. Our server, although very busy, attempted to help as much as she could while still working the wedding party.
Breakfast was better than your average American continental breakfast. An array of cheeses, breads and ,yes, cold eggs. Cucumbers and tomatoes as well. Several in my group got the Nescafe coffee and did not complain. But ill agree with another reviewer, a 4 star hotel should not offer guests coffee that the can get from a machine on the street. While drinking coffee at around 9 am on checkout day, we could see our rooms across the yard. You could see hotel staff going into your room and beginning to clean and prepare it for new guests. Checkout time is not until 12 pm but it was though you were being kicked out.
As for the hotel grounds, the pool was drained and appeared to be in the process of cleaning. Although it was took cold to swim. Due to the weather, nothing was open or fires ablaze. The hotel was a bit of a walk to the town of Arbanasi, at least 10 minutes. Not far, but you'd think would be closer for a 4 star place.
At checkout the staff asked if we had anything from the mini refrigerator. I was caught off guard because I never knew there was a refrigerator.
In my opinion, stay somewhere else and go to the restaurant at Rachev.
