Very disappointing! The owners were very nice but the resort was bad.The accomodation was not cheap but not comfortable. There was no restaurant so we had to order food at the other resorts. This resort was a huge disappointment. I

Arriving on this secluded beach by boat and slowly closing in on the Takatuka resort is a very nice experience. I got the jungle-beach-bungalow Bongo Bongo, which is absolutely fantastic with my own elephant in the bedroom among loads of other decorations. Then the zebra-bathroom!!! The sunsets from the porch. The Amazing rest of the resort with all the fantasy-rooms and buildings. WOW! The restaurant and the MENU - best in the Phillipines, I gained a few pounds here. Thank You Kathy, Karl, Anette and staff, Salamat po!! PS. and thanks Kathy for the Cardamom, the Glögg is brewing :-))

The other reviews tell it all - this is an amazing and unique hotel. Cathy and Kelle are charming hosts (and really into music which is a major plus). The staff are always helpful and smiling. The food very good. The beach is from our experience the best in the Philippines and the rooms!!!

Kim and the ever present canine Ozzie were there to meet us on our arrival. From that point on, you knew this place was going to be something special. My wife and I have travelled extensively across the Philippines for the past 20 years and I can honestly say, the decor at Takatuka is the work of either a genius or a madman. Everywhere you look there is something weird to discover from the upside down toilet shower to the boob press light switch. As good as all that is, the thing that really puts Takatuka in a league of it's own, are the owners Cathy and Kelle. They go out of their way to be as helpful as possible. Cathy, I look forward to seeing a photo of the drinks menu with the new cocktail we made up that evening!! Thanks for a wonderful stay guys.

This hotel only has 14 rooms, each one done differently. We were assigned the Garage. It has a car wash feel in the bathroom (a regular garden water hose augments the regular shower), tires for a headboard, an light switched that are camouflaged as a hammer, and the horn of a driver's steering wheel. Beyond the whimsical, the room came with a queen and twin bed, mini-ref, drinking water with its own 5-gallon jug. To get to the resort, you have to ride a mechanized banca 15 minutes though a mangrove forest and exit the creek into the surf before ending on the beach. Light brown sand with no coral, even at low tide. I counted only 3 hotels of the same size as Takatuka along a 500 meter beach front. Downsides: Practically no wifi/internet (very slow even if you are right next to the router). No cable (they have a 40-movie selection), and few dining options. Suggest you bring in your own snacks and fruits. Peak season is Late Nov-April. In late August, the Habagat winds were strong.

Response from TakatukaLodge, Owner at Takatuka Beach Resort
Responded Sep 2, 2018
Most of our guests who have been eating here at Takatuka are laughing with a shake of their heads while reading this review – even questioning whether this guest wrote the review to the wrong restaurant (“Mostly Filipino food, with a smattering of psuedo-Thai food”). This description definitely does not match Takatuka Restaurant, as it has the biggest choice of international dishes you can enjoy in all Sipalay. And everything is always available. Besides the 7 Filipino dishes on our menu you will find: - 9 delicious snacks - 11 different sandwiches - 8 crunchy salads - 8 appetizers of all kinds - 7 sumptuous soups - 9 seafood dishes from all around the world - 12 healthy vegetarian dishes - 8 pasta dishes - 7 chicken delicacies - 9 pork and beef specialties - 12 yummy desserts - 11 different side orders - 9 delicious breakfast options, on days we don’t offer buffet breakfast This is a total of 120 food options, and we didn’t count our pizzas as well as our specials which you will order in advance. The influences of our dishes are very varied, from Mexican, Italian, French, Indian, German, Malay, Arabic, Indonesian, Thai, Greek, Austrian, Korean, Swiss, Japanese, Spanish, Chinese to Israeli. We offer to each of our guests a real treat of garden-grown herbs and spices which is usually very much appreciated, and they enjoy a lot the authenticity of our diverse dishes where not one tastes the same like the other. We regularly hear long-time guests say that they were not able to try all dishes of our menu in the 3 weeks they were here. Therefore, you definitely don’t need to bring your own snacks and fruits to Takatuka, and kindly note, that we don’t allow this anyway as well as self-cooking and self-grilling. Furthermore, internet speed is depending on the local provider and not on our own WIFI system. Please don’t expect High End Internet in such remote places, especially not in the Philippines. We are also very much depending on a good internet connection when dealing with inquiries and bookings. We suffer the same fate and can’t do anything against it as long as the provider overfills the lines to make more profit…

The Takatuka Resort is a beach side resort offering peace and tranquility, a sort of get away from it all with modern creature comforts, the resort is run by a Swiss/French German Couple, and each room is based on re usable materials, which impressed me, ours the Nautilus room is based on the Jules Verne novel, 20,000 leagues under the sea and rather delightfully appears as a Submarine pretty cool, with a large double bed and spacious accommodation, the room has every available amenity to ensure your stay is comfortable, the cuisine as well is probably well known among travellers in Sipalay, and the Takatuka has a name for providing not just Filipino dishes, but more so, European choices, I was pleasantly surprised to find, German Schnitzel with Deli Fries on the menu in an amazing Mushroom sauce, with garnish, so your spoiled for choice when it comes to what's on the menu, with a fully stocked bar, and games room, and direct access to an amazing powdery beach, there is plenty to do, including this being a qualified dive resort, there is no pool, but really you don't need it, the sea is right on your doorstep, with the Food choices in a fully stocked restaurant that is open all day for a delightful buffet breakfast with egg stations, cold cuts, cereals, European Breads and preserves, lunch dinner and a great bar, this really is the best resort in Sipalay on Sugar beach, book with confidence, there are plenty of arrival instructions by email if you need them, and you have to take a rather fantastic mangrove boat ride to the resort, as the government at present is fixing the access road, but I actually loved the boat ride in, and beach landing, pretty fantastical in all, This resort will appeal to local and National Filipinos, and European and US Tourists alike, best wishes on your stay there, Pete and Gina Bennett London.

Theme rooms are awesome and so was the service. I’ve been to a lot of beach resorts, especially in Boracay. But nothing beats the food at Takatuka! Food is amazing! Excellent diving and super clean beach & water! And thank god - no crowds of tourists. No annoying vendors.
