This is a small luxury ryokan that makes feel relax. At most of Ryokan experience, you have to take care of Japanese manners, but not Kayotei. They only have limited number of rooms in order to keep safety and create atmosphere of invited to friends house. Actually,if you ask maneger who used to work at famous Ritz Carlton what you are intersted... More

We visited for 2 nights. 2 adults and 13 year old son. I can't say enough about the warmth of the staff, friendly, kind , accommodating. They think of every detail and really make you feel at home. Our junior suite with private onsen was an oasis. We used the onsen several times. So beautiful at sunrise and in the... More

This Ryokan is amazing! It is in a beautiful setting and is so peaceful! Our room had a private onsen and the view of the surrounding forest and stream was so relaxing. We didn't want to leave the room or private bath. A fantastic place to unwind. The staff was so amazing and accommodating! The general manager and son are... More

Great personalized experience. A true Japanese experience. Gourmet meals in private dining room. Set in beautiful setting by a gorge and wonderful hot springs in the hotel. Shuta, the concierge, personally took us to a restaurant in town and translated the Japanese menu for us...amazing!

I cannot imagine an experience in a ryokan, or pretty much in any other situation, where we would be met by hosts with the natural graciousness and care that we were met with at Kayotei. We felt as if we were treasured family, not guests at all. And this grace and care is evident in every inch of this beautiful... More

No visitor to Japan can miss a ryokan. No visitor to Japan should miss an Onsen. This combines both and is worth the time and effort to get there from Kanasawa ( about one hour by train then taxi). This place is perched overlooking a private valley and is small (10 rooms) and family owned. The welcome is enthusiastic and... More

We stayed at Kayotei through the Ryokan Collection, which we've used for all our previous ryokan stays. Like the others, our stay at Kayotei did not disappoint. In fact, it is hard to imagine another ryokan that can personalise an experience any more than this one, or who could surpass the already high attention of detail most top ryokans have.... More

This is a wonderful Japanese experience. We gave up a day of tours to spend more time at the hotel and its location. It is an authentic Japanese experience and not detail goes unnoticed. You have to eat there for breakfast and dinner as much as possible. I would have spent more time there and in that area of Japan... More

What a wonderful experience. You get welcomed personally by the owner, Madame Kazuko Kamiguchi and the General Manager Mr Jiro Takeuchi is a delightful man who is not only a great host, but a guide and a 'concierge' who personally gives your private tour and teaches the true Omotenashi hospitality. Jiro-san speaks fluent English and personally ensures that you are... More

First, Kayotei is not for everyone. It is an exceptional experience that can only be rivaled by a few other traditional Ryokan in all of Japan. For us, it is a very special place - we have visited twice two years apart. In both cases, the proprietors of this inn (family run) have showed us extreme kindness and gone out... More
