The property is very nice, rooms, foods average. Drinks are watered down, question if alcohol is even in drinks. We tried many drinks and most of the bars, only VIP is ok. Drink beer from cans! 1.5 hours from airport isn't too bad, makes day outings a long day. Staff is nice, will fix the problems if you call and ask. Daily activities not super clear, last day learned of a flashlight night walk.

My husband and I got married here and brought 20 family/friends. We had an amazing week that we will all remember forever. The wedding exceeded my expectations. It was one of the best vacations we’ve ever been on until the last day when my brand new husband tested positive and the resort really dropped the ball regarding what our next steps and options were. If it were not the COVID issues it would have been a perfect experience.

My family planned my sister's wedding week at Dreams from January 8th to 15th and it was all FABULOUS! I'm the type to do my research for all my travels and read a lot of reviews so I'd be prepared for our trip. Dreams lived up to and exceeded all expectations! My mother & sister did all the wedding planning with their wedding coordinator Annieska. They were very satisfied with her services in planning a BEAUTIFUL wedding for my sister and 20 guests, which it was! I had personally reached out to concierge services on my own and was in touch with Jocelyn who was amazing in helping me plan & coordinate events to add to the week. She was VERY responsive, prompt, & professional. My mother planned the family group to have Amstar transport 12ppl to & from Liberia airport, which was great. It does take 1.5hrs from airport to hotel, but was a lovely scenic route to see a bit of CR on the way. Upon arrival we were greeted with champagne and were split between preferred or regular check-ins. My hubby & I and sister & fiance were sent to the preferred club. After check-in we stayed and grabbed lunch there. It is a lovely lounge with a bar, small buffet, about 4 tables, small seating area, and deck for outdoor lounging. My hubby and I went there a few times during the week to have a drink & small bite before dinners. We also checked out there. We then were taken to our PC room at building #2, room #2106 which was conveniently centrally located, close to the PC lounge, main building for dining, the center lawn for evening entertainment, and the pools. The staff wore masks at all times, was very friendly and attentive, and mostly spoke limited English to our limited Spanish which was enough to get by. We had an amazing swim out room with a patio and sectional sofa which we enjoyed lounging & swimming every night after a day by the pool and/or beach. The resort itself is HUGE and BEAUTIFUL! Evening entertainment was fun and enjoyable. Restaurants were all great - Himitsu was the best, both hibachi & regular tables. All waitstaff was AMAZING!!! My family and friends all had a WONDERFUL time! Dreams Las Mareas, Costa Rica! Helpful tips/info pulled from Dreams website & TripAdvisor reviews: • Location: 1.5+hrs from Liberia airport. Playa El Jobo. Secluded, isolated area, in the middle of the rainforest, no other resorts around, far from towns, excursions about 2hrs away. Nicaraguan border 15-20mins away. • Check-in: they will try to sell you timeshares. They will offer discount vouchers at the spa, but you’d have to do a 90 minute seminar and/or breakfast meeting with the sales representative. • Masks: Worn indoors at all times unless eating and/or drinking. Staff wears masks at all times. • Resort: large, clean, beautiful, well-manicured lawns & gardens, that run along a hillside. It is tiered, on a hill with steps up to the main buildings or down towards the beach, depending on where you’re coming from, so if you are out of shape keep that in mind. Depending on the building you are in, you’re either far from the beach or far from the main building restaurants. There are golf carts for mobility challenged, but it’s a waiting game. Dark at night with not enough lighting, so be careful. There are 2 large winding pools, very spread out, 1 bar by each pool, 1 swim up bar at lower infinity pool, most dining options at top of the resort in main building with 3 at the bottom towards the beach. • Rooms: gorgeous suites, ocean or tropical views, furnished balcony or terrace with tub or swim-out. Double sinks, rainfall shower, open layout. People hate being able to see your significant other on the toilet through the frosted glass. Amenities: shampoo/conditioner combo, bath gel, lotion(?), hairdryer, mini-fridge, coffee maker. • Pools: Upper area has large kid-friendly pool plus small kid’s pool area on one side & waterslide on the other side of it. Lower section has “adults only” Preferred Club pool section at the first half and the other half, closer to the beach, is the kid-friendly infinity pool, however, be careful with the water volleyball bc no one will apologize if your kid gets a ball to the face. The infinity pool is a bit rowdy & livelier, while the upper pool is quieter and calmer. Can rent pool or beach cabanas for $50/day. • Beach: is public and there are vendors, but they approach you politely and do not get pushy. They go away as soon as you tell them that you’re not interested. Preferred Club chairs on the right side; regular on the left side. Not white sandy beach, but clean with rocks along the edges of the bay/cove. Wear aqua socks to walk the rocks. Calm, crystal clear water. Excellent snorkeling with lots of fish, manta rays, porcupine fish. Can buy souvenirs from beach vendors, book massage, or excursions which all will be cheaper than over-priced gift shop or hotel tours & hotel spa. Beach massage about $60/hr compared to $200-$250/hr at spa. No waiter/drinks service on the beach. Hammocks at the beach. Tons of monkeys that steal. • Gym: was small but had everything needed to stay fit while on vacation at an all-inclusive resort. Could use an upgrade. • Amstar: towards the beach for rentals & excursions. Kayaks, fishing, snorkeling, paddle boards. Resort has daily activities: water aerobics, water & beach volleyball, cooking, nature walks & yoga, dance classes, etc. • Staff: is welcoming, friendly, accommodating, and give good service. They go above & beyond. Bring small bills to tip bartenders for better service, stronger drinks. Also good to tip the pool “manager” for best seats, umbrellas, drinks. For the most part almost everyone is willing to help and wants to make sure that your stay is as amazing as possible. • Wifi: very spotty, not great at pool or beach • Clientele: “25% families on spring break, 25% couples, 25% wedding parties/large family gatherings, 25% groups of adults on spring break”. Partying crowd, loud music. Nightly shows take place down below the main building on the lawn and the noise is loud until 11 pm. Bring earplugs if you are an early sleeper. • Bring: sunscreen and bug spray or prepare to pay $30-$40 a bottle in the gift shop. Gift shop = $$$$$ • Room Service: 24hr room service options. Dinner is good. Not outstanding, but good. Breakfast is better. The food is delivered 45-60 minutes. Note: do not leave your room service leftovers outside your door on the floor. Almost nightly racoons will rummage through leftovers. Annoying to wake up from the sound of plates clanking around in the middle of the night. • Restaurants: main building: World Café (buffet), Portofino (Italian), El Patio (Mexican), Himitsu (Japanese), only hibachi table needs a rez. Not all restaurants are open every day. Also Coco Café (cappuccinos in the morning and ice cream in the evening), Rendezvous Bar (lobby piano bar, good martinis. Pre/post dinner drinks), Desires Bar (club). Pool/beach area: Seaside Grill & Oceana, Barefoot Grill & Barracuda Bar. Best to eat before 7pm as it gets crowded and wait times are 1-2hrs. o Coco Café: 6am-12am. Premium coffee, ice cream, & deli snacks. Casual. o World Café: Breakfast: 7:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Lunch: 12:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. Dinner: 6:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. Buffet. Casual for breakfast & lunch; Casual Elegance for dinner. o El Patio: 6pm-10pm. Mexican cuisine. Casual Elegance. o Himitsu: 6pm-10:30pm. Pan-Asian cuisine. Casual Elegance. Hibachi- rez only. o Portofino: 6pm-10pm. Italian gourmet dining- Adults only. Children & shorts can sit outside, if available. Casual Elegance. o Tortuga: 10am-6pm. Upper pool bar. Beach Casual. o Rendezvous: 10am-1am (often closes earlier). Lobby bar. Casual. o Desires: 10pm-1am (often not open or closes earlier). Music lounge & nightclub. Casual. o Seaside Grill: Lunch: 12:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. Dinner: 6:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. Tropical cocktails & grilled specialties. Casual for lunch, Casual Elegance for dinner. o Oceana: 6pm-10pm. Fresh seafood. Casual Elegance. o Barefoot Grill: 12pm-5pm. Grilled favorites & quick bites, located by infinity pool. Casual. o Barracuda: 10am-6pm. Lower pool bar. Beach Casual. o Manatees: 10am-6pm. Lower pool swim-up bar. Beach Casual. o Sugar Reef: 10am-6pm. Oceanfront bar. Beach Casual. o Preferred Club Bar: 7am-10pm. Exclusive for Preferred Club guests. Casual. • Dress code: bring some nice clothes - the non-buffet, nicer restaurants require long pants for men and no flip flops for men or women. All restaurants require sleeves (for men & women) even during breakfast or lunch at the buffet! o Casual: bermudas (long shorts or Capri pants), sneakers/tennis shoes and sandals. Ladies must wear a bathing suit wrap or cover-up. No sleeveless shirts for men. o Casual Elegance: sneakers/tennis shoes or dress sandals, dress shirts with short sleeves or collared shirts. No sleeveless shirts or flip-flops. Long pants required for men. o Beach Casual: swim trunks, bathing suits and flip-flops accepted. • Wildlife: monkeys on balconies (don’t leave doors open or they will enter your room; they will steal your food at pool/beach), exotic birds, crabs, lizards, iguanas, crabs, & raccoons (trash pandas) bite. • Covid: they offer free PCR tests at the resort, open 7 days/week from 8am-3pm, results available next day (18hrs).

We had a fantastic time – the resort was outstanding. Here’s my recap. - Shuttle from the airport to the resort was uneventful, but beautiful – very cool seeing extinct volcanoes and the very different topography, about 90 min - We were a little frazzled / hungry after the flight / shuttle so the 30 min to check in at the hotel felt a lot longer - Rooms were awesome – minor differences between our upgraded room and the kids basic room (bigger patio & lounge, jetted tub, tablet for ordering room service which was good since the phones were sketchy). Kids view was away from the ocean but onto to trees where a troop of monkeys lived and visited from so the kids loved that. I would suggest for premium rooms to try to get them on the third floor and avoid the 2nd – we were on the 2nd and looked out a palm frawns which was private, but totally blocked. Didn’t see many folks using their swim up pool on the ground floor either. Rooms were quiet, large and beds were super comfy. Room was very clean and looked very new. - Food was outstanding. If I gave Celebrity Cruises a 9 out of 10 for food, this would be an 8. Each restaurant had lots of options and really liked everything we had – nice portion size and high quality with nice presentation. The lunch time option for the Grille restaurant (I had beef short ribs one day) was outstanding. Even the beachside grille was great – awesome hot dogs and quesadillas were really good - Buffet – we only ate there once the first morning, food was good but the layout was a bit spread out. We ordered room service after that each morning which was a nice treat. - Drinks were pretty standard and bar service was good. Someone would come by the pool chairs every hour or so to see if you wanted a drink which was not quite enough so we went to the pool bar lots (😊). - The entertainment was outside by the outdoor nightly buffet – we stopped and watched a few times – they had some fire dancers one night that were pretty spectacular. - The pool layout was my favourite – so many pools, with the upper section and the lower section each with 5 or 6 pools connected by waterfall infinity edges. It was awesome sitting by the pools – you really couldn’t see any rooms (other than the very upper portion of the upper pool) so although it was a big resort, when poolside it felt anything but - Only annoying thing was that you had to reserve chairs, like a cruise ship, by 7:45 am or so or your choice wasn’t good. Somehow resorts need to fix this. - Used the gym a couple of times – it’s smaller, but got the basics and good cardio equipment - Groundskeeping was gorgeous – they worked while you were there so there was some noise from leaf blowers / trimming etc., but it takes effort to keep it up. Loved it. - Only went to the night club once but was fun - We did a one day excursion with a company we’d highly recommend – four of us in a big shuttle van with a personal guide and personal - REAL TOURS COASTA RICA - driver for about $600 US. 7 am to 6 pm – scenic lookouts, nature reserve with Zip lining, cultural show, horseback ride to a path and then a 10 minute hike to a beautiful waterfall. Terrific Lunch and then an afternoon at a hot springs spa with mud bath. Even had some stops to and from the nature reserve (90 min drive each way) to see some viewpoints and a local store / shopping. Totally recommend them!! - Had our covid PCR test on Friday morning (2+ days before leaving) @ $120 US each – a bit more than I was expecting, but likely was told this and forgot

If you just want a week of relaxation, food, & drinks, it's definitely worthwhile! Overall we had a lovely time and a great week there. We saw so much and enjoyed the pools and the setting. Nature is right at your doorstep and we really enjoyed seeing the monkeys run around the balconies and play in the trees. They were a lot of fun to watch! The location is gorgeous, the views are great, and everything looks really good everywhere you go. The beach is nice, but you get accosted as soon as you walk near it. It's also nothing special. Overall, the service was also great with a few standouts in both the bad and good sides of things. As you'd expect. The drinks were delicious, but definitely too sweet and with very little alcohol in them. The room was nice, but had a few minor issues that held it back from being great. Nothing preventing us from having a great time though and we thoroughly enjoyed it! I'd rate the food quality lower than Cuba overall (Paradisus Rio de Oro is still the best) while the Oceana and Pan-asian restaurants really stood out for their quality and selection, as did the Mexican restaurant. The buffet was average. It was well maintained and refilled and overall we didn't go hungry or wanting for lack of food or options and there were plenty of very tasty options to choose from. Avoid the pizza though, it's prefab crust with no flavour and just plain awful (it's the same for room service too) In terms of resort though, it seemed like there was lacking any overall atmosphere or direction. The lobby was mostly devoid of life and was eerily quiet. The snack bar there was probably the best place to be, but the main lobby bar directly across from it was sterile, and devoid of all life and entertainment. It actually made me cringe walking into it and seeing it so lifeless. There was very little to do outside of eat or drink, unless you wanted to leave the resort to go on an excursion. There were no pool tables, dart boards, archery, bowling, none of the activities that you'd expect. I know they have the kids explorer section, but adults like those things too!!! The most fun I've ever had was hanging around the pool table at the lobby bar in Cuba while getting coffee and drinks. It was a great time there, and this resort just lacked so much of that life and atmosphere. You could eat, drink, and hangout at the pool… that was it. In my opinion, it costs way too much to pay for this resort only to then go on another excursion in addition.
