Detailed Reviews
Not wanting to spend too much time in Cartagena (as there town does not have good beaches), we booked four nights in this little island reachable by a two hours spread board trip from town.
The sea was very rough, but the boat (nice, fairly new and well maintain speed boat) trip was nevertheless pleasant. Waterproof jackets were provided as was water. Best to sit on the side facing the land in order to avoid getting a bit wet.
The island itself is small, which is ideal if you want to relax and do little. Snorkelling trips (not that great to be honest) and other activities are available). The hotel, which has several rooms directly on the sea with private terraces (highly recommended) and others which face the garden, is very well maintain and has a nice little private beach with no access to day visitors, which ensures that you are not disturbed by day tourists.
The rooms are spacious, air conditioned, with large flat screen TV and nice outdoor showers (with warm water). The toiletries provided are of high quality.
I was a bit scared to go to a all inclusive resort (all meals and all soft drinks with the meals are free), but I must stay the quality of the food (buffets) was surprisingly good. Furthermore we informed the chef that we do not eat meat or chicken and therefore fresh fish was prepared for us on a daily basis. Dinner is always served in a different location of the hotels garden and the candles on each table made it very cosy.
I like the idea that music is not allowed anywhere in the hotel.
All the staff was very friendly and smiley and a couple of people spoke very good English.
Highly recommended

A two hour boat journey ( which can be rough) brings you to this small island in the Caribbean Sea. It is rustic in style but spotlessly clean and the staff were lovely and friendly especially when you were prepared to make an effort with speaking Spanish to them. We had a junior suite ( room 40) for 4 days, looking out to sea from a private terrace although you do have to look through wooden railings if lying down and patio doesn’t get direct sun if you want o top up your tan in private. and then because we added an extra day we stayed in Room 1 which was huge and overlooked the gardens with a glimpse of the sea. Either ask for an upstairs room or a room with no one above it as noise through the floors can be a problem. It’s all inclusive buffet style but only includes soft drinks at meal times. All other times you pay for them. Happy hours between 5&7 don’t include the beer but they do some nice cocktails. Lunch for us was the better meal as it was always hotter than the dinners but there was plenty of choice, beef, fish, prawns, chicken, vegetables and salads. Soups and deserts and breakfast had a hot egg station for omelettes, pancakes etc. Dinner is served outside in a different part of the gardens each night.
The beach is small and I’m pretty sure man made as rock underlies the sand. There were always loungers and cabanas available in the mornings because a lot of people checked out early every day. Plenty of seating at palm fringed tables and brollies in the grounds. Rooms were clean, beds large and comfy with the freshest smelling sheets of our 3 weeks in Colombia. L’occitane toiletries and hair dryers available from reception.
No music is allowed which is wonderful so you can truly relax. If your life revolves around social media the signal could drop out from time to time so be warned!
Snorkelling is basic and generally done on the other side of the island where the sea is calmer. The bike ride is worth doing to see the rest of the island The other side is much busier with backpackers and locals. It’s also worth taking the free boat tour around the other nearby islands/hotels just for fun.

This is a very nice, non-chain hotel, that offers a great opportunity to relax and disconnect from the world (there's honestly is not all that much to do). Considering meals are buffet-style, they were extraordinary good. Cooking relies heavily on seafood as well as some local cuisine. If you are looking for vegan blueberry pancakes with Vermont maple syrup for breakfast and almond milk for your latte, you will be out of luck, but if you are willing to embrace island cuisine, you will be rewarded by tasty meals 3X per day. The staff is friendly and serviceable. There's a scuba station on the property, but when I inquired, they were already booked. Surprisingly some guests brought their dogs... During our stay, we were told the hotel was 3/4 booked and we never felt crowded. Even after 9:00 am, you could still find a cabana at the beach. No tourists getting up at 5:00 am to reserve lawn chairs here. The two hour boat ride from Cartagena is a bit of a drag. When there are waves, you are likely to get sprayed on (especially of you sit in the back - but the staff provides ponchos). A Dramamine for those prone to seasickness is very advisable.

This is such a great island to visit if you are looking for a small hotel with good food, good service and a pleasant beach but no music or evening entertainment. There is a 2 hour ride out in a private launch from Cartagena, which is pleasant in itself and the gardens, rooms and staff are just right. Happy Hour can be had in a bar looking out at the sunset and dinner is served in a different garden location every evening. While you can snorkel off the beach, there are organised day and nighttime snorkel trips which are well worth it with stunning fish. We also did a bike ride which was probably easier on foot but took us to an interesting local fishing village on the island. There is a further potential trip to another island which is a second fishing village. These trips are not free but are not expensive. What also makes this hotel stand out is that it uses as much of the tiny local population from these villages as possible (approx 50%, I believe).

COVID-19 security was spot on all the employees always wore a mask and the whole place was disinfect. Thank you for all the owners and staff for everything you done, what a big family.

Hotel Punta Faro, located on Isla Murcura off of the west coast of Colombia, South America, is a clean, comfortable, quiet, beautiful, secluded, private, resort hotel. A stay here definately has the right stuff to relax & re-charge. Balanced, tasty meals are included in your room price and are served buffet style by the ever attentive staff at different outside and covered locations around the grounds. Rooms are nice, spacious, clean and have Good A/C. The resort has it's own water treatment facility which makes for great fresh water. There is a small dive shop & a dive master on location and boat trips are available for snorkeling and diving locations in the area. Also a private, white sand beach with chairs, tables, lounge chairs, gazebos for your relaxing pleasure. The spa can massage away your knots or give you facial/body treatments. For shopping, a small boutique with hand selected offerings and a few essentials. Walking trails and bike paths call you to explore the island, which is a must. A no music/noise policy is a welcome change. Laundry service available.
Great for couples wanting to get away to peace and quiet. Not for the party hardy crowd! From Cartagena, a two and a half hour boat ride on open ocean brings you to the resort. (check weather for your boat travel day and plan accordingly) This transportation is all arranged by the Resort and included.
Safe location, owners who pay attention, staff that is ever attentive, clean, comfortable accomodations, good food. Punta Faro everyone!

this hotel clearly states that if you cancel your reservaton 16 days before arriving they will refund most of your deposit. i have been trying to contact them to get my money back and they are refusing to refund the money and are not answering my emails. clearly a violation of their own policy.

This place is magical! I just got back and I already want to return!! The price may seem a little high, but it is worth every penny! We booked a suite for my family of four. It had a king bed and two twins. It also had air conditioning, a balcony, ocean views and and open air shower that was simply delightful. The two hour boat ride to the island was enjoyable, I was worried about getting sea sick but I felt fine the whole time. Three delicious meals are included per day with nice variety. Alcohol is extra, but prices are reasonable. The island generate their own power, grows much of their own food and even desalinates it's own water. It's really remarkable given that you are out in the middle of nowhere. And there is wifi, and hardly any bugs. It's a dream!!
We did a few of the activities that cost extra, plankton tour (amazing), paddle boarding around the island (hard), bike ride (wish we had done the tour, because there are no roads), massage (more of a lotion rubbing massage, but a delightful over water setting) and scuba diving (awesome!!).

We very much enjoyed our three-night stay here and it was all that one could wish for from a tropical island retreat. There had been some confusion from our travel company regarding the room booked but the hotel staff were very helpful and sorted things out very well. In the end we occupied two different rooms and both were simple, immaculate and with an inviting hammock on the terrace to relax in.
The beach was regularly cleaned and swimming and sunbathing all you could wish for. We are not generally keen on buffets but could not fault the ones served here which were both plentiful and varied. In fact we were amazed at what the staff managed to create given that we were a long way offshore and it must be very difficult to get ingredients which aren't locally grown. The dishes were all labelled so we had no problem with our choices. We thought it a very nice idea to have dinner in different areas of the property each evening.
We enjoyed the panoramic boat trip but unfortunately, due to our lack of Spanish, couldn't appreciate the walk round the estate.
Although music isn't allowed in the hotel there was a general thumping from the next-door property which was a bit troublesome.
Others have mentioned the boat trip to the island. Ours was quite bumpy on our return to Cartagena and we can imagine some might be rather concerned about this.

All reviewers should keep in mind that nearly everything needs to be brought to this tiny island by boat. This is no small task considering the island is (roughly) two hours from Cartagena. That being said, the accommodations, food, and general environment are superior to most hotels you would find at a five star resort with easier access to supplies. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The food is incredibly tasty and there are a few options at each meal. Additionally, the staff is beyond accommodating.
The island offers a nice path for walking/running and there are pull-up bars for those so inclined to continue to their off-island workout plan. Additionally, you can book other activities with the front desk. We opted for snorkeling, a boat tour, and a massage. When snorkeling we suggest you follow the guide around the reef. He showed us anemone, squid, urchin, sea cucumbers, and fish from all colors of the rainbow.
We also had excellent chats with Jorge and Jefferson at the bar as well as the official island translator Camila. She (impressively) speaks Spanish, English, French, Italian, and a little Korean. The entire crew was beyond friendly.
Some general information: Some extras require payment or rental fees (in our case snorkeling and a massage). The walking tour and boat tour are both free. Alcohol is not included in the booking fee; however all drinks are reasonably priced considering you are trapped on an island. Tipping for each drink or service is not permitted. Rather, there is a tip box if you are so inclined to add gratuity at the end of your trip. Credit cards are accepted at the front desk when paying your final bill.
Also, I encourage you to keep an eye out for Roberto, the local iguana. He likes to visit tourists on the beach. He prefers head scratches and back rubs.

Punta Faro offers both snorkeling equipment for rent and for sale. Guests can inquire about the rental prices based on their specific needs and duration of rental. Alternatively, guests also have the option to purchase snorkeling gear in advance, which they can use during their stay and take home as a souvenir. The hotel aims to provide snorkeling equipment to enhance guests' underwater experiences.
Just got back from there. All the rooms have locks on them, but they ask you to leave them unlocked so you can feel at home. There is a safe inside if you want to lock valuables.
For the best experience, I'd recommend just relaxing and going unlocked.
Punta Faro hotel in Mucura Island has a private boat that will pick you up and drop you off in the Pier La Bodeguita . It is about $50 USD per person RT. Usually they include this fee in the hotel invoice.
The other fee that one has to be paid is the pier fee and it is $17,500 COP per person (about $5.00 USD). They only accept Colombian cash.
The ride is about 2 hrs long and the views are just amazing.
I am deeply sorry to see this message with such a HUGE delay. I hope you have enjoyed your stay at Punta Faro, and YES there is an area with adequate shade.
