We stayed at Thoddoo Retreat in February and had excellent time there. We have decided to go to Thoddoo Island as an alternative to isolated and extremely overpriced (in our view) resort hotels. We usually travel to top resorts in the destination we chose however we have been overwhelemed by the prices offered by the resorts if we wanted to travel there with 3 children. Thoddoo Island is an excellent alterntive to the "resort live" as it has a lively village with firendly English speaking people. It is a unique opportunity to see the real island live in a safe and friendly environment. it is also an excellent experience for children as they see the small remote tropical island ecosystem, attractive and exotic plantations, they can interact with local children and experience the beautiful and empty beaches. The Thoddoo Retreat is very clean and comfortable. it is located in the village hence it does not have direct access to the beach which is ca 15 min walk or 10min motorbike ride away. Abdullah and the hotel staff are excellent is looking after guests. They organise interesting activities on the island and ocean trips (we and our children could swim with and see sharks, mantas, lion fish, and all other unique and beatiful creatures found in the Ocean around the Island).

One should not expect luxuries of the island resort however the experience of staying for a few days on a friendly tropical island in simple rustic conditions by far compensates the shortcomings (e.g. the island is dry, the food is simple, the rooms are also simple and there is not as much privacy as while staying in one of the island retreat resorts).

it is not easy to reach the Thoddoo unless you undertake on the long and bumpy ride on one of the ferries. We hired a private boat from the Male Airport (ca 60min) which was an expensive experience. The speed boat ride was sometimes hairaising however we have always felt safe when the boat was jumping on the waves. I undertand the Island is not accessible via seaplane. However the reward to reaching the island is by far compensating the experience of the bumpy private boatride.

We would recomend to combine the stay on the Island at Thodoo Retreat with 3-5 nights stay in one of the top resorts in Maldives. We believe a 3-4 nights stay is sufficient to experience the Island. We have looked at some of the other guest houses on the Thoddoo and believe Thoddoo Retreat is the best or one of the best of them.

We (wife and daughter and I) spent two weeks on Thoddoo Island staying at the guesthouse Thoddoo Retreat.

Thoddo Retreat is a lovely guesthouse, with quite big, comfortable and clean rooms with integrated bathroom which allowed us to recover not only at the beach. The guesthouse is run by very friendly and helpful Abdullah and his team - a very cool crew. We had great fun!

The island of Thoddoo ist one of the bigger of Maldives islands which means that it has a quite big population of over 1000 persons in one village. So we hat great relaxing holidays and good contacts to the locals. That was a lot of more fun than my last time on a little hotel resort island.

We did adventurous snorkling-trips with Abdullah by boat and from the shore. We enjoyed the fantastic underwater wild life with the turtels, sharks and mantas and whatever colourful fishes were swimming by. And Abdullah showed as a great spotter of the animals we wantef to see knowing by which time and place we can find them...

We for sure weren't the last time on Thoddoo - and we will stay at Thoddoo Retreat whenever possible...

Fantastic people cosy guesthouse. Was just amazing staying here. I have been to many places in Maldives resorts and also guesthouses, but definitely i can say this place really meets expectations for a guesthouse.

Rooms : Very clean gets a comfy feeling every time i step in the door.

Food : excellent to have a all inclusive package. Breakfast was serve local food and it was delicious yet out of the ordinary.

Staff : Abdullah the owner of the guest house and the rest of the team has five stars experience what Thoddoo Retreat different from other guesthouses in thoddoo. All staff are polite and very professional. All the staff very attentive to details.

Excursion: We highly recommend to join the daily excursion trips snorkeling safari, Adventure snorkeling, turtles safari, night snorkeling and snorkeling manta trips.

Thanks to all Retreat team for making our holiday so special we will definitely returned to Thoddoo Retreat in the future.

Excellent strategic and geographic location for diving. Quiet place. Territory of guesthouse and rooms every day is cleaning. Owner - Abdulla - very attentive and responsive, a good command of information about everything you might need, and good at cooking fish grill ! :) Perhaps, the best place on the island for a relaxing family vacation!

I arrived Male on a Thursday night at 9pm. The guesthouse manager, Abdullah has recommended me to take the night ferry leaving at midnight through email. He also arrange somebody to pick up at the airport gate! This is very considering. After buying a local phone card and exchanging some local currency, and a Thai dinner in Male, I got on the ferry finally. It was a 4.5 hour journey, I slept it away on the upper deck floor, for USD10, I wouldn't ask for more.

Once I arrive, the rough ride totally pays off. Abdullah pick me up from the pier and took me to Thoddoo Retreat by motorcycle. My room is clean with comfortable queen size bed. Ac and shower works perfectly.

After a short nap, I came out from the room and being greeted warmly. Following by their signature breakfast combo, coconut tuna, papaya, juice and black coffee. The bikini beach is 10 minutes walk away, but the staff are always happy to take you there with motorcycle. Great spot for snorkeling and sunbathing.

I was staying together with two other Russian couples, which are extremely nice. We had a huge reef fish barbeque dinner one night with Russian style mash potato made by the guest. On the other night, the owner organize a private fishing trip for me, and I caught 8 fishes together with the captain! So we have another barbeque dinner, in which I steamed one in Chinese style and pan-fried another one in Italian style.

They also arrange a snorkeling trip for all the guest, where I swim with a sea turtle!! Upon departure, they get me on a sharing speedboat. Thank you for the great experience!

The only problem is the unstable Wi-Fi, but who needs that in Maldives!

Adam the manager was totally not reliable at all. He did not turn up on the morning of our 2nd day as agreed to take us snorkelling. He did show up at the hotel after our agent contacted him but it was already afternoon and since my travel mate had a headache then, we refused the afternoon snorkelling. On the 3rd day, he took us dolphin watching but in a small boat that was buffeted by high waves. I had told him I did not swim well, yet he did not ensure there was a life jacket on board. Although we did not see any dolphins, I was relieved to be back on land SAFELY. We were supposed to go snorkelling that day after breakfast and instead of at the agreed time of 9.30am, he arrived more than 1 hour late. And had to leave us to wait still more for him because he had forgotten his swimming trunks.

Yes, he showed us turtles and lobsters which was truly a sight to behold. But he later insisted we go to Manta Point, which was beyond the boundary into open waters. He did not produce a boat, instead he wanted us to swim there even with strong currents. We said no, yet he took us into open seas. We had to insist we turn back and it was A BIG EFFORT to swim back to shore. It was a good thing nothing serious happened, although anything could have. It was totally unacceptable that we were put in a situation that could have resulted in a tragedy, especially since we had said no at the beginning.

For our last day, he said he would send us to the ferry to return to Malé, assuring us that the ferry would not leave without us. At the appointed time, it was no surprise that he did not turn up. So we walked with our heavy bags to the ferry point. And the ferry left on time, and no one asked if we were from Thoddo Retreat. Imagine if we had trusted Adam's words and waited in vain for him. We would have missed our flight home!

We stayed at Thoddoo Retreat for four nights and had a magical experience with Adam and Abdullah who are the owners of the hotel.

They looked after us and made sure that we had a great experience staying at the hotel and also gave us the best experience of the island.

The food at the hotel is super tasty! The rooms are clean and comfortable. The best thing with the hotel though is the amazing vibe. All the guests are gathering in the common areas to enjoy the place and sharing experiences with each other. The friendly staff is always there to make sure that everyone of the guest is happy!

Adam and Abdullah took us around the island to show us the best of it. They took us to a beach in the evening to make sure we got to see the blue lighted plankton that sparkled and glittered in the waves in the dark! They snorkeled with us in the house reef (which was pure magic seeing sharks, turtles and a lot of colorful fish).

During our time in the Maldives we were island hopping, and that is not a simple task if you have limited time and doesn’t understand the ferry system. Both Adam and Abdullah sat down with us to help us plan how we could go to all the different islands that we wanted to see and experience and they made sure that we had a great travel plan for the rest of our trip which was to a great value for us!

I can definitely say that this hotel is the best I’ve experienced in the Maldives. I haven’t met as friendly staff anywhere else. We were island hopping for three weeks and visited 11 different islands and stayed at plenty of different hotels - no one of them lived up to the level of standard and service as Thoddoo Retreat did! I warmly recommend this hotel to all of you!

We visited several islands, hotels/guesthouses in Maldives and I can guarantee you that this is the best place to stay. The main reason is the owner. Fantastic hospitality from start to finish.
We booked shared speedboat from the airport (4 pm). Arrival time was at 7 am. We were prepared to wait as there was no other option. Owner managed to get us on the different speedboat at 11:45 am, so we did not have to wait till 4 pm.
The owner also took us to the beach and show where is the best place for snorkeling. Next day we accept his invitation for snorkeling with him so he can show us turtles near the beach.
He is also doing BBQ, but unfortunately, we missed that one. Departure was also w/o any issues. We had to get up early to catch a public ferry and still we got perfect breakfast (6:30 am).
The room was clean, inc. fridge, water was free. Perfect simple bathroom.

So to sum up, services is 5 star without a doubt. Later we visited a four-star hotel and resort, but even than Thoddoo Retreat was the best overall experience.

We should stay longer. We thought few days will be enough, but that was the biggest mistake we made.

We were amazed by the hospitality of the owner. We felt like we came to visit a family member not a hotel. They helped us to get to Thoddoo after we landed in Male. We had a nice room, very clean with fresh towels changed every day. The food was delicious in reasonable price. Abdullah, the owner, was willing to arrange everything we needed including diving trips, speedboat. The staff is really nice and willing to help. If we ever go back to Thoddoo I'm sure we will stay here again. Thanks for everything. You made our stay special :)

Thoddoo Retreat was like top hotel for reasonable price. The room was clean, spacious. Bed was very comfy ( was importent) , bathroom was clean. ACon and fun worked properly. We had maledivian breakfast every day for our request, was really good. We ate at the guest house, the food was always fresh and very tasty, prepared by one of the women from the family. Ikram, the front office manager ,as well as our guide, was very open, helpful, carying and had a huge experience with guests. Thank You and thks for the dolphins☺. All staff was excellent. We felt safety, all team had a good attitude for the guest and they do all the best to make You happy.☺ We felt like we were home away from home. Dear Hozayen Thank you for your request. We have only one room left. We can help you to organize the transfer from Male to Thoddoo and back. 19th will be a saturday, we will have for sure a connecting speed boat through Rasdhoo which will cost 95 usd/person and way. If you are lucky, we can also get a direct speed boat which will cost 50 usd/person and way. But i can't promise anything. I will just be able to let you know one week before your arrival. If you hold your child, then she/he can be for free, if not it will cost 25 usd/way additional. The other option which is cheaper will be the night ferry, but I don't recommend it if you are travelling with a child. But if you are interessted on it please let me know. I hope I could help you out. Best regards Diana
