Cheap spot to camp as I cycle toured through the region. Nice location and well kept grounds. Basic kitchen and showers but adequate especially for the great price. Relaxed and helpful caretaker. Pub is just down the road for a good feed.

Tidy grounds set in old school site. Still has children's playground. Rustic with limited ablutions but very good value for money. Nice walk to nearby sports ground and cemetries. Also lovely old historic pub in walking distance.

We stayed only one night at this lovely campsite, and enjoyed the peace and quietness of the area. As already indicated by others, $20 for a powered site is a bargain. The 'facilities' consisted of two toilets (one for the ladies, one for the men), one metered shower which is in size similar to your average broom cupboard, and a... More

We stayed one night at the campground in our caravan on our way from Taumaranui to Stratford. It's a great little spot, used to be the local school so there are the remnants of a school playground - swings, climbing frames and so on. The grounds are well cared for and have limited facilities. With the Forgotten World Highway being... More

Stayed here after a long day's drive from Rotorua. Can't complain at the price. Just $20 for a powered site. Facilities are at best basic and definitely maintained by a man (!) but the site has tidy grounds and peace and quiet. We camped alone apart from the chickens that visited. Alas the Hotel was closed in the evening so... More

We stayed at Whangamomona for 2 nights, and wow what a tranquil place to stay. It really is in the middle of nowhere. If you want a place to just get away from it all, this is the place to go. There are a few things to do, and spending time at the Whangamomona Pub is just one of them.... More

We loved Whangamomona ... it's completely in the middle of nowhere, on the fantastic "Forgotten World Highway" (about 60 km from Stratford). The campsite itself is owned by this small village which has created it in their old school ground and rents power sites, camping spaces and (we think) small cabins. It's totally basic but clean and eveything you really... More

Loved this place and the whole Republic of Whangamomona stuff. The site is set in the grounds of the old school and is small, compact and clean. It is also very cheap. The facilities are pretty basic but the views are great and it's fun to wander around the little town/rugby pitch etc. One of my favourite campervan sites of... More
