Design & Wine Hotel **** is a contemporary hotel which reconciles modernity with the original artwork of the 18th century manor house facade. Innovation and audacity live together with history, technology and tradition. The "Enoteca" (wine cellar) is a space where our guests can find and taste the finest Portuguese wines. Guests are invited to choose from a very complete chart of wines as well as a wide range of traditional snacks. The Design % Wine hotel offers a comprehensive range of services at the Galeria White Box - the perfect space for exhibitions, conferences and presentations. At the restaurant traditional Alto Minho dishes are reinterpreted in a modern cuisine perfect combination.

The Design&Wine Hotel looked promising, at least on their website. Part of it is in a renovated traditional building. Another part is in a newly-designed revolving structure. It doesn’t actually revolve around 360 degrees but just for a few meters according to some (random?) schedule. As we tried to go for breakfast after the first night, we could not get out of the building because it had pivoted and the security barrier was locked. It was a bit strange. We had to call the reception so that they could come rotate the building again given that the barrier couldn’t be unlocked. It was an example of how a great concept on paper can lead to practical problems in a day-to-day setting. Our room in the new building was large and comfortable with a sizable bathroom. We had pretty much everything we needed. Unfortunately, it was cold and humid, with a rather unpleasant and persistent smell of dampness. That the room was damp was not surprising given that we were just along a river and the sea, and that strong winds were blowing. My guess is that the room’s insulation was inadequate. Once we put the heating on the room temperature became more comfortable but that meant that we had to spend two days with the humming sound of the heating system. The staff were friendly and the breakfast was very generous compared to other places we had slept in in northern Portugal. Overall, it was all a bit disappointing, not because of the human element but because of flawed technology.

Room full of dust, no slippers ou robes are given to guests and the worst part of the trip, my father fell of an exterior stair and twisted the ankle - despite the first aid care being supplied they didn't care to know how they could repair the stair so that this doesnt't happen again. The receptionists are not all concerned about your well being.

When we arrived in the center of the city, it was a coincidence that the first place we found to park was right in front of this hotel. It is centrally located and relatively new. The design of the lobby and common area is quite attractive and all rooms are different. The restaurant is nicely laid out with an appealing dinner menu and an amazing breakfast. We received a warm greeting the and reception staff answered all the questions we had and provided valuable information about the town and the surrounding area.

The rooms all have a different theme. Like a comic book room or video game room. That alone was really interesting. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was good. We enjoyed our stay and would visit again.

Worst hotel experience that I ever have had. There was no one receptionist at night, only a night doorman, who couldn’t solve the hot water problem. Paid a 150€ and couldn’t even have a hot shower. I ordered a toast at night, the ham was like a stake not slice with very bad taste. Getting back on the room... very noisy the room, I could here any kind of noises during the only night that I spent there, doors slamming, water coming from the shower, people talking outside on the streets could easily ear them talking and making noises with their cars. Next morning I asked the receptionist to talk to the manager or someone above but they said that was impossible. How come?!
