This was our first visit to Santorini and we really were not sure what to expect. Perhaps the most striking thing about this island – which, according to the experts, is nothing more than a volcano, is its size.
It is so small that only a fifteen-minute drive separates the stunning Caldera coastline with its iconic white cave houses from the “unfashionable” side of the island, where the Blue Bay Villas are situated.
We booked a room there, knowing very little about the island, on the basis of price and Trip Advisor reviews.
We were not disappointed. The villas which sit on the shoreline between the holiday town of Kamari and the village of Monolithos, are everything its website boasts.
The rooms are not huge, but are beautifully, if simply decorated with copious wardrobe space, large (for Greek standards) bathrooms and balconies/terraces boasting iconic blue tables and chairs. Our room had a sea (and pool) view, making its balcony the perfect place to relax with a glass of Santorini’s excellent local wine.
The pool shimmers in the sunshine and the striped loungers with their perfectly spaced sunshades are reminiscent of a Hockney painting during his California period.
The beds are comfortable, the host welcoming and informative and every corner of the hotel is spotless. Even the proximity to the island’s airport is not a problem.
There are some downsides. The location, next to a couple of larger hotels, is not great. There is a shop, with and outdoor café (Louis Market) a two-minute walk away and there are a couple of beachside tavernas close by. Mario’s (turn left on the beach and keep walking) is by far the best of the two. But that’s about it, so if you are looking for variety, coffee shops, bars and a bit more life, then hire a car. We got a great deal (80 euros for three days) in Kamari – a great little town only half an hour walk away. And a car gives you the freedom to explore Santorini, which is quite stunning, and not just in how it looks. Its history and its cuisine mark it out as a special place to stay. Be warned, taxi rides are not cheap – it seems that every journey, five minutes to the airport or fifteen to Fira costs 12 euros.
The breakfasts at the Blue Bay Villas are its weakest link. That may sound a bit mealy mouthed, but when there is no alternative but your hotel for the first meal of the day, breakfast really does matter.
The selection of bread, jam, yoghurt and honey, tea and coffee, is basic enough, but what makes it worse is the quality of the produce. Everything is from a value range, from the tasteless bread to the additive laced spread, masquerading as jam. We supplemented this dreadful fare with tomatoes, cheese and olives, and I suggest you do the same. There is a fridge in every room, so storing a few added extras is easy.
That said, we would recommend the Blue Bay Villas as a a good value and pleasant base to explore this most wonderful island.

Perfect for few days or a long weekend in the island of santorini. The airport is close but was not noisy for me. We booked a car so wew can easily go to Oía or Fíra or wherewer we wanted to around the island. The owner lady is speaking good english and helped in everything including booking a car. Theres also a small grocery store 2p by walk where you can buy nearly anything. The apartment was clean and our little terrace is opened a view to the sea and the pool. The pool area is really relaxing and i liked that were only a few ppl around the pool and was so good to relax and sunbath there. The beach part is nice but big waves over there so not so fine if you like to hanging around at the beach. The breakfast was ok for that price and all of the stay there for this money. Worth it

This place is a great bargain. I was made to feel very welcomed by the family that owns the hotel and I had a great room with a view of the ocean, where I could see the beautiful sunrise. It's in an isolated location but I appreciated the quietness (I was never bothered by the airport) as a place to retreat. I got taxis to Fira and the port but if I was more organised I could have taken buses and saved money.

I swam in the nearby beach and it was clean and refreshing - I liked it a lot.

I really enjoyed my breakfasts here. They were simple and fresh and delicious. They make great filter coffee and the Greek yogurt is silky and creamy.

The only slight downside would be that there is sometimes a slight smell in the bathroom which I think comes from the plumbing. Just open the bathroom window and it will go away. Also I couldn't get the wifi working but I did not bother to follow this up (the owner would have helped me) because I didn't really want to spend my time being online.

Overall I feel great about my time here and would definitely return.

The location of this hotel is shocking - it's right next to the military airport which is extremely noisy, and about 25 minutes' walk to the nearest village of interest. Although there is a beach nearby, it is a very unpleasant one and we actually didn't spend any time on it despite hating staying in the hotel itself. The nearest public transport available near the hotel was so rare that we had to rent a car for the whole duration of our stay, which added to the cost of our stay quite significantly!

The room itself was a decent size but had a terrible smell we couldn't get rid of. Breakfast was appalling - I'd never seen such a poor selection of items, actually, and the little that was available was of dismal quality. The orange juice was just disgusting, the bread was stale and the butter and yoghurt were not fresh. Both of us were ill most of our time in Santorini, and I am quite tempted to believe this was due to the poor hygiene of the breakfast, which was served in the reception room of the hotel which was also used as a kitchen and a bedroom from what seemed to be the mother of the owner/manager...

Although there was a pool bar which could have helped create an atmosphere in the pool, it was closed for the whose duration of our stay. The pool itself was good but it was impossible to relax by it as we were constantly disturbed by the planes taking off literally above our heads...

My advice: don't stay there!

Right now staying here and I wish I dint book this hotel or the stay in Santorini was short... came here for 3 days and the welcome wasn't appropriate as she refused to acknowledge that the booking was for 2 adults and an infant...

She gave us a room on the one floor up and every time we had to carry baby stroller through stairs.

Breakfast - anyone booked here, please dont think that you have something to munch on in the mornings as the variety is so less that you are forced to feed yourself if you are the breakfast person.

Swimming pool is good but has to have a bar which is always closed and the reason unknown.

The funniest part was, when I went and asked that the room doesn't look like the one showed on the internet, she bluntly said "thats for internet"

Beach is close by so you can relax there and maybe (just maybe) as a couple you will be OK here but family - I wouldn't even bothering rating.

Rude staff-there were three very unpleasant women ready to fight with you if something like -spilt coffee on bed happened. And for breakfas they took salami right in a front of your nose.I asked whay did they do that-they didnt want to answer. How crazy is that??Poor breakfast.Changing bed sheets and towel happened every third day.
Good thing was that the hotel was close to the beach. But there is nothing around. No stores and not many restaurants.

We arrived earlier than expected to Santorini at 11pm and needed somewhere near the airport to stay for a night. After a quick check on tripadvisor we found Blue Bay Villas. When we arrived the owner was so friendly and accommodating. The rooms were pretty basic but clean and good value for the price and also included breakfast. Located right next to the beach. I can't express just how friendly and kind the owner (Nota), her mother and all staff were at this family run hotel. Nota went out of her way to provide all the information and tips we needed for our first time in Santorini and went out of her way to organize a taxi for us to get to Fira (there are a limited number of taxi's in Santorini). I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants to stay near the airport and the beach.

It’s quite isolated and quiet ! Taverna 10 mins along beach and Kamari about 1.5 miles away - a long walk - bus stop end of road . Great if you have car . Fira is 15 mins drive as it’s on other side of island but good option if you want decent place for good price and then go up to Fira etc for views . 289 Euro for 6 nights ! Value !
