Detailed Reviews
Hotel's Favorite
We had an excellent two week holiday at Katrin Hotel and Bungalows. The main reason we booked it was because we were able to get a family room for all 5 of us, the first time we have managed to all stay together in 5 years and not have to run between 2 rooms! The family room was great, 2 bunk beds and a single bed for my 3 boys and then a room off it with a double bed for my husband and me. Good quality shower and it was nice that the sink and mirror were in a separate area outside the bathroom which made it easier to share. The room was very clean and the maid was excellent, came in every day and gave really good clean and she was so friendly, I couldn't speak highly enough of her. Because our room was beside the pool the wifi was very good, so our kids were happy, though I don't think it was as good in other areas of hotel away from the public areas. Our only complaint about our room was there was no clothes airer for drying clothes but we knew about this from reading reviews before we left and brought a ball of string to make a clothes line. You also need to bring a travel kettle if you like a coffee first thing.
We spent most of our time at the action pool which suited us better with kids. The other pool was much quieter and might be nice if you don't have children. There was no sunbed wars which was fantastic, you could always get beds at the action pool at any time of the day. There was a coffee machine at the pool bar as well as self-serve soft drinks, wine and beer. The wine was very good compared to other all inclusive hotels we have stayed in. Some of the soft drinks tasted a bit watery but the cola and cola light were both great. The music at the action pool was great. There were cookies and cake basically all day long at the pool bar and pizza, hot dogs, chips and burgers from 11am to 4pm. They also served tubs of ice-cream.
The restaurant was fantastic, it was very small compared to other all -inclusive hotels we have stayed in and much less choice, however we have found that often the smaller restaurants are by far the best as everything is of a high standard and good quality. The fresh fruit was delicious and the salad bar was fantastic. A lot of traditional Greek food which we loved but also pizza and pasta which we stayed away from but would suit a less adventurous holiday maker. My youngest son loved the desserts.
The hotel was in a great location a few minutes walk from Stalis, I like to get up early on holiday and go for a run or walk and at first as was concerned about using the subway to get to Stalis by myself but it was very safe as there were a lot of other people like me who got up early to walk or run (Stalis is too beautiful to waste staying in bed!!). We often went for walks in the middle of the day too around Stalis or in the surrounding mountains.
I used the hotel gym quite a bit, it didn't have air conditioning, just lots of open windows, so I didn't even try the cardio machines, but it was nice to go to for 30 minutes of weights.
We hired a car for 3 days and found it was cheaper to use one of the car rental places in Stalis rather than the hotel, we saved 20 euros per day. We really enjoyed exploring the island. We also took a trip to the water park which was very expensive but one of those things you have to do with kids! If you want to do something a little different in Crete visit Lake Kournas. It was a fair drive from Stalis but totally worth it. We hired a slide pedalo, saw the
turtles swimming and the water was crystal clear and fantastically warm.
If you are used to going to hotels in Spain then Crete won't be as polished but I preferred this, it had much more charm. The staff in the hotel were amazingly friendly, the waiting staff remembered who you were and where you were from, they all worked so hard and made our holiday amazing. It ticked all the boxes for us in that we could all stay in the one room, there were no sunbed wars, food was fantastic, the hotel was clean, and we were two minutes from a fantastic resort. We go abroad every year and this is the first hotel ever to tick all those boxes!

Good hotel but not 4 stars, 3 tops. Reception staff very helpful and friendly, we asked to change rooms and were accommodated straight away. The maids did a great job and we came back to a nice clean room everyday. The waiters and waitresses were all spot on and cleared up after you promptly, occasionally a bit too promptly. The food was plentiful and is what you could expect from an all inclusive. Quite a large variety. They need to invest in an industrial toaster though. Having to wait for up to ten minutes for a bit of toast as there is a queue is not acceptable. The hotel is in a great location literally 5 minutes walk to the beach and the main strip. It's on a busy road but there are subways under it. You cannot hear the traffic from inside the complex except for in the dining area and even then it's not bad
Bad bits.
€20 a week for the safety deposit box in your room is an absolute rip off. Sheer extortion this.
The alcohol is very tasteless and not very strong. I was expecting Mythos but they serve something weak. Imagine Carling or Fosters but watered down. They also stop the all inclusive at eleven pm, not that we ever stayed there that long. There are no cushions on the metal seats outside meaning there is nowhere comfy to sit except inside, which is a very small area anyway and is also quite sterile, no atmosphere at all. There is no real plan for inclement weather, the only covered area is on the uncomfy metal seats outside the main bar area. This bar doesn't open until six so even if you did sit there, you couldn't get refreshments. And lastly the same old chestnut of people reserving sunbeds. Good luck getting into the adults only pool. We even tried getting up at 07:30 only to find all beds reserved and not a sign of anyone out there.

I We stayed here on a relatively last minute holiday deal on an all inclusive basis. It was a mix of positive and negatives, am a fairly well travelled person with several physical and neurological disabilities. I'll list the positives and then the negatives.
Positives:
1. Location is great, in close proximity to the gorgeous beach and resort restaurants and bars.
2. On a whole the staff we're helpful, friendly and accommodating.
3. We felt very covid safe and the hotel was pretty much covid compliant when it came to masks, Hand sanitiser stations and the cleaning of the place.
4. The lunch menu was pretty good especially the freshly made gyros.
Negatives:
1. The hotel is a bit tired in parts and is definitely more a 3* hotel rather than 4*.
2. Some rooms are quite noisy, The first room we were given on the 1st floor by the lift and stairway down to reception was very noisy late on and early in the morning with cleaners, reception staff and guests. They did move us the next day after we explained about my disabilities, for this I cannot fault them. My advice get a room higher up or in the sperate block round near the adult only pool.
3. The showers in all the rooms seem to flood the bathroom no matter how you position the shower head. We had maintenance round several times during our stay.
4. The all inclusive program is a bit regimental and quite restricted in that you can only eat certain food and drinks at certain time periods in the day. For example you can only get local spirits between 6pm and 11pm and cocktail of the day between 9pm and 10pm from the main bar. You have to pay extra to have fresh pure orange at breakfast the only alternative is a flat fanta like drink from the soft drinks pump. The local wine and beers they have on offer are cheaper than cheap not even the tasty local methos beer available. The food is ok but repetitive and not much of a range for picky eaters or those with food allergies.
5. The pool is nice and clean but not too many sunbeds available so you have to be quick or end up going to the beach.
6. There isn't much in the line of entertainment in the evenings but this could be down to the covid situation, I'm not sure.
Helpful pointers:
* Try get a room near the adult only pool.
* Check out Sparrow Travel for your excursions they are just to your right once you go through the underpass and down the hill to the beach. Ask for Renia she is phenomenally helpful and very knowledgeable.
* Kings street food is really reasonably priced, tasty and generous portions hits the spot everytime.

When we initially arrived at midnight I was impressed to be offered something to eat as this doesn't normally happen in all inclusive places. It went a bit downhill from there. Our room was very basic and the balcony had a view of a chipboard wall. The cleaners and waiting staff did a great job but the food was very average - vegetables for breakfast that were recycled from the previous night's dinner, veal and liver served but no beef. The pool bar was supposed to have fruit every day but this only happened once. The red wine was served cold and the beer very watered down. If you wanted a fresh orange or iced coffee you had to pay extra, and all inclusive drinks stopped at 11pm even though the bar was open until 1am. Not my idea of an all inclusive hotel. The weather wasn't great while we were there and there was only 1 small bar open in the evening and the atmosphere was dead (even when it was full) The photos make it look like the pools are big but in reality they're small. The hotel is in a good location for the beach and the bus stops - would definitely recommend a trip into Agios Nickolaos but wouldn't recommend this hotel.

Dear Helen, Thank you for a positive feedback regarding your holidays with us. We are always delighted to hear that you enjoyed your overall stay at KATRIN HOTEL & BUNGALOWS and remained satisfied with kind staff, and services. We have different photos for the different room categories, so that our guests can see the room type that they are interested in booking. The room categories are advertised correctly and we would like to assure you that all of our guests receive the room type that they have booked. It is unfortunate that our all-inclusive program did not meet your expectations. However, we must say that we clearly state the terms and conditions of our all-inclusive program and what it includes, and all our travel agency partners are informed accordingly. We regret to learn that you were not fully satisfied with your stay and found the food repetitive. Our kitchen team is constantly trying to satisfy different tastes through the daily changing variety of our buffet, while ensuring excellent quality. Our entire team always tries its best to accommodate every wish and we truly hope to welcome you once more. Kind regards, KATRIN Hotel & Bungalows team

When we leaved our bus, the feeling was like “here?” as you dost really see the hotel outside, but once you walk in there is a nice place and actually the bit lone hidden hotel position makes it quiet which is nice. Than you Want to go to beach with mixed feeling of is there anything close ? ..Well once cross the main road and go oné street closer to sea, you will find yourself at the “tourist strip” full of beaches restaurants and other services… so the location is simply great.
Hotel itself has a really pleasant staff, which seems to do their best all the time, rooms cleaned once you leave a ticket on handle to do so, restaurant is good for the buffet kind of all inclusive, with pretty big variety od meals, including for example cretan corner and extra food on grill every meal, staff really helpfull, as one of us is alergic, they always came up to tell us which food is OK.
Bar works find, might opens a bit late but we didnt mind as spending the day outside was our normal schelude, pool place is OK, but well dont expect it warm in october, the pool bar is sort of buffet place rather than bar, but works well … beer wine some small food is simply there, also all day animation programe is nice for people with families or bigger groups, we only came to the late bar animation and still had a good time with quizes etc.
Simply for us, worth the money … everything good from service to location … could recommend to anyone who does know that a 4 star is not a luxury, but a nice decent clean place with good service and some tiny isssues that dont bother you really.

When we arrived our room wasn't ready as we requested two rooms together. It was very late at night (after midnight) when we arrived so they offered another room for the night and gave us an upgrade to a superior family room for the rest of our stay which was excellent. They also had some food ready for us! Which was very much appreciated.
The next day as soon as we got up they helped us with all our luggage and took us to the rooms. Also that evening, they came round with a bottle of wine as a welcome gift!
The rooms themselves were very clean, modern and bright. Air conditioned in both rooms which was a must for the August heat. Our room had a balcony over the main reception and the bar where the evening entertainment was, however once the balcony doors were closed we couldn't hear a thing which was fab.
The hotel itself was exceptionally clean and all the staff were polite and wonderful. In particularly the entertainment team, the young girl (Luv) who did the children's entertainment was amazing.
There is plenty of choice of pools to choose from, the children's pool and larger pool Next to it was ideal for our girls (4&5). Also, we noticed unlike pervious holidays, there was no rush to get a sun lounger by the pool. We went at various items of the day and would always find a spot easily, they do have a no reservation policy in place so I think this helped alot!
The hotel is next to quite a busy road but you can't hear any of the traffic from the rooms and also they have underpasses that take you to the other side without the hassle of crossing which was perfect.
We stayed all inclusive and we couldn't fault the food at all, plenty of choice and plenty of traditional food. Every lunch time they had a chef serving freshly made Gyros at the cooking station and they were wonderful. We only ate there at breakfast and lunch times just because we like to explore and eat out when we are away.
The location is great if you want something a little quieter but close enough walk to restaurants and bars.
It was our daughters 4th birthday whilst we were there and they even brought her a cake which was such a nice touch.
Its roughly 5 minutes walk to the beach (even with 2 small children and carrying everything you need to take to a beach), the water is very warm and between 10-15 euros for 2 x sun loungers all day which is a bargain!
Ultimately it was an excellent place for a family holiday. I would highly recommend it.

This hotel is in the ideal location as very close to the beach and the town there’s another bigger town a 20 minute walk to the left as well with lots of nightlife and more shops
When hiring cars scooters quads immobility scooters go into town of stalis as there’s plenty about and cheap enough there was only one place who did immobility scooters at 18€ a day you can leave it at the hotel car park to charge when not in use the hotel itself isn’t immobility friendly with steps here and there ( we had a friend with us that used a scooter all week ) we hired our car from the airport via General Motors but there are plenty about for as long as you like
The food is hit and miss we ate breakfast there most days which was a wide selection eggs beans cereals fruit pancakes etc and went out for the rest as it was repetitive and bland for our tasting for lunch and dinner although the salad bar was lovely ( would recommend more salad dressings as only had mayo and tatziki ( yummy 😋 but not for everyday salads) and the desserts were amazing yogurts ice cream fruit lots of tasty treats so some days that would be my evening meal if we ate out in daytime and was peckish again.
The all incl drinks was never for me as I’m not good with strong alcohol it’s all local and four cocktails with raki and ouzo
The room doesn’t have a kettle etc but you can get a cuppa outside of restaurant hours at any swimming pool there’s a shop literally to the right 1 min walk of the hotel that sells large bottles of water for next to nothing and any booze u wanna drink at hotel there’s a laundrette there too at 5 euro a wash and 2 euro drying but u can dry on the balcony so quickly we found dryer wasn’t needed.
I absolutely have to praise the manager and staff here as they go above and beyond nothing is too much trouble they were fantastic all round the cleaners were lovely the food staff were lovely and Nico at the bar needs a special mention such a great guy !! The receptionist was brilliant at telling us on a map the best places to visit and see whilst there as we had a car for the week and her recommendations were spot on.
Shortly for the money you pay - this hotel is lovely and would recommend for a nice quiet break also Heraklion city is amazing very beautiful and lots to see and if able go to the caves about 25 minutes drive from the hotel they are stunning 🤩 hope that’s helped anyone

Both me and my son (9) will be leaving tonight and we’re so sad to be going home, we’ve had the best week, fabulous staff each and every one of them they’ve all been fantastic with my son, who has additional needs, and mobility issues, for this reason I requested a ground floor close to the amenities and that is exactly what we got, there’s a few steps down to the kids pool but as my son has sensory and auditory processing issues the kids pool wasn’t for him so our room was directly across from the bigger pools and he spent all week in them and had a great time
Our room was absolutely fine toilet rolls provided, hairdryer beds were so comfy as was the pillows, balcony was a decent size also we arrived at midnight due to a delay from Manchester but the night guy helped me to my room then asked if we wanted any food or drinks, so he got me a coffee and my son a sprite which was lovely, the food was absolutely fine plenty of choice yes there was carrots for breakfast but I just walked past rather than make an issue of someone wanting or not wanting a carrot for breakfast! There’s fresh stations at breakfast with pancakes or freshly cooked omelette then the usual continental, cooked, fruits bread toast plenty of choice, the lunch is fresh gyros pitta also lovely, always pasta, chips potatoes veg, meats my son is a picky eater but there was always something for him to eat
The all inc drinks were fine I only stuck to lager as I was with my son so can’t comment on the spirits or wine, but it’s pour your own which is a thumbs up from me the ice cream for my son was all day deffo bonus points for that
Rooms were cleaned daily I asked for a kettle and it was brought to my room the morning after I arrived which was great👌🏼 the walk into stalis is literally 5 mins come out the hotel cash machine on the left supermarket on the right and just past there you’ll find the steps for the underpass not worth trying to cross the road it’s so dangerous and there you’ll find all the bars, lovely restaurants and all the shops
The grounds of the hotel are immaculate always staff working and pottering looking after everything, the manager Chris was fab with my son, gave him his managers badge for the last few days so my son was made up I celebrated my birthday here and was brought a cake with the restaurant team singing and clapping so lovely
Would I return here? I don’t normally visit the same place twice but my son thoroughly enjoyed as did I so yes we would deffo come back
Thanks for everything guys you made our week

The hotel owner and the whole staff are exceptionally hospitable and take care of your every request individually. Me and my wife and 1.5 years kid received a clean room quickly upon our arrival. The rooms are tidy and kept clean every day. The swimmig pool area and all the other amenities are in very good condition. I loved the events organized by the animation steward (Eddy) who was there for his smallest guests organizing the mini disco and other events with all the passion and dedication. The food was always fresh and warm at every time of a day: the chef served always somethig extra as a pita gyros or asian-wok counter. The great thing about the service was that you was always attended by the restaurant Manager or the wiaters ready to give you hand in case any additional help was required.
The location is totally fine even for families with small children: afer crossing the tunnel under the road and passing like 300m you’re at the nice sandy beach with multiple shops/restaurants and cafes. If you like to take a bus or a taxi the city of Hersonissos is right about 15minutes away.
I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is used to 3-4 stars hotel standard.
Hopefully i would come back again next year.

We have just returned from a 7 night stay at this hotel, it was a last minute booking we don't usually go all inclusive in Greece. We decided to stay around the hotel and pool during the day and venture out at night. We landed just after midnight, check in was good, we were shown to the restaurant and provided with food and drinks. Our room was in the main block, it was spacious, clean and modern with a sea view as requested. The pool areas are lovely and clean, a separate adult area and a children's pool, drinks and snacks served by friendly staff. Lots of sunbeds available. We had breakfast, lunch and occasionally dinner, the food was lovely and a good choice provided, we especially enjoyed the omlettes at breakfast, pork gyros at lunch and Greek dishes at dinner. Wine and beer were OK. The staff were friendly and went out of their way to ensure everything was OK. The rooms are very clean, towels and bedding changed 2/3 times whilst we were there. The maids work very hard, rooms cleaned every day. Location is good, the main strip is accessed via an underpass or by crossing the road by the supermarket, only a 5 min walk away. The staff on reception were very helpful, printed our paperwork to return to UK. We had a great time and will definitely return to stay at this hotel 😊

No kettle but there’s a nice drying rack attached to the wall outside that extents quite wide for clothes and swim wear. 👍🏼
I requested a room on a high floor with a balcony and sea view, I got a ground floor room with no balcony, just a little area outside with a table and chairs and a view of a wall! Got moved after 2 days, up 2 floors. Had a very small balcony with slight sea views. The rooms were nice and clean and nothing wrong with them really but there were much nicer ones in the newer block.
hi there is a launderette right next to the hotel on the right hand side
