Set close to Omaha Beach and the historic town of Bayeux, Port en Bessin conceals a treasure that lies at the end of a long drive " Chateau La Cheneviere ". Impeccable lawns, ancient trees and a charmingly old fashioned rose garden... arriving on the estate is like strolling onto the lands of an English Lord who fell under the spell of Calvados region. The manor appears at last, a dignified Norman edifice from the 18th century, it combines the charms of an old house with the conveniences of a cosy English Manor. Add to that an opulent interior, spacious, elegant bedrooms. The dining room, overlooking the park, has a certain grandeur on an intimate scale, while classic cuisine allows you to explore all the distinctive flavours of Normandy, a generous and distinguished cuisine based on delicious local produce, faultless service, a heated outdoor pool, a splendid terrace, and the picture is complete...

Mid september, we stayed as couple 7 nights in Chateau La Cheveniere. Our general impression and conclusion is clear : a real 5 stars stay. All services were of high quality : room, breakfast "en chambre", staff, swimmingpool, gardens, silence, atmosphere, other clients.... : difficult to find better. Only one weak point was the flexibility and the choices for dinner in the only open restaurant "Le petit Jardin" : only 3 entrees and 3 plats. If you stay several nights, you have to eat several times the same dishes.

last minute plan to leave the city for a few days... and @chateaulacheneviere was our perfect home away from home secluded but accessible. grand but welcoming. the smiley staff makes it so.they know you by name after the first night.you can swim, hike, bike or play tennis on the property.but if you just want to relax with a book and a drink, you can plop yourself in any one of the several charming corners of the chateau with all the greenery and the sounds of birds.... everyday when we would be back from a whole day of museum visits or sun&sand, the entryway was always a welcoming, relaxing sight.loved it! it screams -‘ you’re home, baby!’?🤣 more of the chateau.plus the vegetable garden for their Le Petit Jardin and La Botaniste restaurants (Michelin 🌟unfortunately temporarily closed due to current health crisis).... *i don’t know about you guys but water pressure in my hotel shower matters to me, big time😄and this one did not disappoint👌🏽! also, there’s a hand-held shower plus a rain shower head! plush huge towels and slippers. one thing though, no robes. son didn’t have one in his room as well😳 i forgot to ask too😜 oh well. *front desk staff were helpful with reco tours and restos.also immediately replies to email messages.whole staff&crew wears masks all the time, everywhere. photos all mine.

I have visited La Cheneviere a number of times over the years and have to say that despite reduced staffing due to Covid-19, it is remarkable how well maintained the hotel and its grounds are. The new Jardin restaurant (the main gastronomic restaurant remains closed) is superb and the food is very good indeed. The new set-up with the pool there is a great place to hang out for hotel guests. The Jardin is buzzing with activity. A recent review by Jan V is totally unfair. The complaint about the breakfast price being too high and dishes being overpriced shows a lack of understanding of pricing in that region. A quick review of the breakfast prices around ( The Mercure nearby for example) and the price is identical although the place does not match the Jardin environment in the least! As to other food, we had Dinner at La Marine in Port en Bessin and the price for the meal was identical to the one we had the night before at the Jardin. Our stay was flawless and despite understaffing, we felt the 5 star treatment all the way with staff remembering our name and being very kind and indulgent. Highly recommended either way!!!

I stayed at this hotel with my wife and cute new puppy and we absolutely just loved every minute of it. The staff was friendly, the rooms are greatly decorated, the food was just superbe and my wife is the biggest foodie. Loved the decoration touches which is a perfect mix of French classic mixed with British style and a touch of soho farmhouse.

we know five star hotels; This is rated as one but is not worth it; We understand that corona has an effect on service, but nevertheless. Breakfast is incredible!! 18 euro's for a half glas of juice, a coffee, some bread and marmelade, butter; you want extra: fruit plate =12 euro's (with almost nothing on), meat plate 12 euro (some unappetizing thick sliced raw bacon), cheese platter 12 euro (6small pieces of cheese, not even from Normandy....). Bar open untill 21.30??? come on..... very dark room, my daughter had a towel with some minor blood stains on it: she threw it on the floor to be replaced: all they did was fold it again and left it in the room. Never again and certainly not worth the money.

Dear Jan V Thank you very much for taking the time to review Château la Chenevière on Tripadvisor. We’re extremely sorry to hear that you haven’t enjoyed your experience. You are correct, with the current health crisis and with us following our goverments’ new guidelines, we have been obliged to reduce some of our services. Our à la carte breakfast is priced at 18€ and includes everything you mentioned above. Second servings are included in this price and we do apologise if there was a misunderstanding. For 26€ you also have the unlimited buffet which includes the fruits, cheeses and charcuteries. The smaller plates listed below on the menu at 12€ are for guests who wish to only order these plates for breakfast. Safety and hygiene is a priority for us and we guarantee that towels and sheets are changed regularly, especially if the client leaves them on the floor. Even though we have written that our bar closes at 9.30PM (another reduced service due to Covid), our barman has never turned down a client and therefore has actually been closing the bar much later. We do wish that you would’ve asked for a drink, because we guarantee that you would not have been turned down. We always try our best to meet our clients’ expectations and we do so by asking them during their stay if there is anything we can do for them, or help them with. We hadn’t received any complaints from you during your stay and you said that you were very satisfied with our services. We do wish that you would’ve come forward and talked to us, as we would’ve tried to rectify any potential issues. Again, we apologise and hope that we’ll have the pleasure of welcoming you again in Normandy.
