I stayed at hotel "Alem" dependence called "Vis" in July 11, in the peak of the season. This was my first visit after 21 years, when I was a regular guest of this hotel for many summers. First of all, it was funny to see that room has not changed a bit for all these years, curtains, carpets, toilet etc., still no TV, no air condition, it has small balcony with a sea view. I think this is one of the last hotels in Croatia which is State-owned and lack of care and investments only proves that State is a bad master.
Anyway, I am kind of expected such situation but I was satisfied because it was clean place and it served its purpose, to sleep over and have a shower.
The hotel had special offer for cca.30 Eur for overnight, including breakfast and dinner (which can be replaced for lunch). The food is eatable, some dishes are better than the other. Yes, I have been placed at the same table with other guests, but you don't necessarily have to come at the same time as they are. For example, I preferred early breakfast and dinner and haven't seen others at my table at all.
What is the best at Baško Polje is great beach, clean see, long side walk along the sea to the neighboring place Baška Voda where you have to walk in order to buy newspapers or any other item form the store. But I did not mind that, I just love Baško Polje with all its isolation and lack of stores. I guess it will be completely different place once when a big hotel chain lays its eyes on it.
There is no other hotel in this part of Dalmatian coast, which is for me the best part, in which you can stay and eat for this price. Unbeatable!

The worst hotel I have ever visited. It think that in 30 years that have not invested a dime in renovation. Rooms are old and not even basic (no TV, fridge). Awful!
But hotel is situated in a beautiful pine forest, just on the very nice gravel beach. Lots of flowers, palms, everything is green and the smell is fantastic. Water is crystal clear and the beach is never too crowded. It is very peaceful and quiet since Basko Polje is nothing but this hotel.
If you ask me, Basko Polje and hotel Alem`s beach is the best place place for spending beach time in Makarska riviera. But avoid hotel Alem by all means.

Hotel is huge from socialism age, no renovation. We had neither a/c, nor fan, no fridge in the room.

Room had 3 beds around the room, so no romantic, also the beds were all making noise while moving, so we could hardly get sleep.

We decided for All inclusive in this hotel, which was our biggest mistake. The food was really horrible, coffee in the afternoon
only (forget coffee after lunch or dinner). Drinks only in the hotel restaurant, not on the beach! No drinks on the room allowed.
I would describe it as full pension with drinks rather than all inclusive.
The menu was to be chosen from 3 meals, the translation though would not be worse, so most of the time no idea, what is coming up!
The surrounding is beautiful though, beach really nice and not overcrowded.
I met people who were staying in the camp in a tint and they were really happy, knowing what they get for their money...

I most say at first the sorounding is the most beautiful ever 💚💙
The rooms in hotel were renovated, sou we had new bed, flooring and closet - smelled new. However the bathroom is still old and very very badly cleaned, i actually wiped some tiles on wall cause i was sick of looking at them and discusted by thinking of puting towel on it.
And the food is .. i have no word for it.. we had "ajvar" in green salad and nothing to go with. We've been in some low budget hotels before, but it was never this terrible. I mostly ate soup and dessert, went later into town for a bite/dinner. Food was like it was made yesterday, with no taste and overcooked, it wasn't even good to look at. Breakfasts aren't any better, no pate, no cream cheese, out of yogurt, no nutella. Sliced sausages are all discolurfull and bad taste. If u like fruits and veggis you won't get them here.

The nature is amazing, clean sea, peacefull. And at Covid times at beach you have only one kiosk with ice cream, pomes, hot dog,..
Go into mobile home rather.

We Booked a weeks holiday with lowcostbeds to this resort, It has got to be the worst hotel I have ever stayed in in my life.

Apparently, it is advertised as a 3 star, it's not even a 1 star if there is such a thing.

I imagine when it was first concieved (it is a self contained resort) it was great, it is now a run down site, with graffitti covered buildings, much like you would see on railway sidings in big cities, buildings no longer used, with broken windows.

It is run down and unkempt. The rooms are basic, we booked it as a 3 star hotel, yet when we were being moved to another hotel, we went to view Hotel Hrvatska in Baska Voda which is 2 star and that was better than this.

The food wouldn't be so bad if it weren't stone cold, everything is deep fried in batter and left to go cold.

We didn't stay in the hotel we stayed in one of the annexes, believe me when I say that it is basic, I don't know how to describe how basic it is, Think Boot Camp, with hand towels.

We were the only english speaking people in the place which gave me an insight into how it feels to be a minority.

I cried most of the time, fortunately we had a car and could get the hell out of there, but one night we walked 5km to the next resort, which was a nice walk as the evening was cooling down, but when we had to go during the day to get something to eat, as the restaurant is only open to full board residents and the only other bar doesn't sell food, it was hard going.

Once you have had your evening meal, the restaurant closes at 8:30 there is absolutely nothing to do, I mean nothing.

I was in this hotel this September with my girlfriend´s. This hotel is exactly for youn couple who are not demanding.

The brakfast are still the same. 2 kind´s of salami, 1 one cheese Eidam, terrible scrambled eggs or boiled eggs, and honey with jam. No more.
Dinner´s are quite the same, 4 kind´s of meals and they are changed every day. Soup are the best choice of dinner´s.

Beaches are wonderfull and sea too.
Housekeeping give you every day new towels and clean you´s bathroom every days.
Reception is english speaking and i think that they understad CZ language.

This hotel I recemended peoples, who know, that thay want to enjoy nice nature, palms, and wonderful panoramic view to Biokovo, but no expect excelent food in the hotel.

The hotel is situated near the town of Baske Voda..Me and my familly went here cuz there are too many peoiple in baske(crowds, crowds). The hotel rooms are...basic..even below that...No rooms,no TV,no fridge, and the hot water kept running out.
Dont get me started about talking bout the food.My dad runs a motel(has been for 8 years) and he had 2 feuds withe restourant manager..The juice is horrible..maybe 2 drops of orange juice and a galon of water...Breakfast is way too simple..salami(3 types-1xchicken and 2xpork),a pasteta(spread on bread)(also 1xchicken and 1xpork).During breakfast you can drink "unlimited" amounts of juice(orange, apple and multi-vitamin[each worse then the other one].U get scrambelled eggs(la "cemente"),honey and jam...No chocolate spread,no sausages nor do they have hot-dogs.I mean every other restourant has them. For dinner(this is where do feuds happened) u get soup--again how much u like(very tasteless)..1 SERVING OF JUICE/Beer/Wine/Mineral Water(ONE serrving..no reefills)(0.2 dcl). The food normative is 15 dg-150 grams, but we got less than 50 grams of chicken file/pork(the very next night)...They dont give u a water bowl like in other restourants..U have to pay for "Botteled Water" 1 l-25 kuna's(about 4 euro)...They change ur towels every day except for sunday..
There is no Wi-Fi nor internet connection..There is 1 TV in the whole hotel(800+ rooms and more than 50 camp-houses)...But they do have a basketball,a football,a volleyball,a badminton court(no balls,u have to carry/buy ur own)...
The beach is very nice...except for all the tree sap falling on u...There is enough shade for everybody...a cafe..and its very isolated...rough crowds happen on weekends when croats from the mainland come here...
There is a supermarket and a bakery in the camp(50 yards behind the hotel[dependsa on ur depandans)..
The nearest towns are Baske Voda(2km following a very nice walking path) where u have the night-clubs and cocktail bars...
IF you want my advice..avoid this hotel but come to Baske Polje..its very quiet, not crowded..and they have great pizza..I recommend staying in Hotel Croatia or private apartments/private lodging...

P.S the swimming pool is empty..dont get your hopes up on it being full...

The room was awful.Mildewe on walls, rust on radiators and in bath, terrible humidity smell, third bed although we booked room for two, etc...We had to eat our breakfest and dinner at the table for 5 people that we shared with 3 strangers.Although there were about 20 empty tables, staff didn't allow us to move to another table. When I asked why we have to share table with strangers, they looked directly in my eyes and lied to me that there is no empty tables.About 80% od plates were messily in the restaurant so we had to search for a while to find something clean to eat our meal from. Swimming pool was rusty and dry although in turist catalogs there is stated that the hotel has swimming pool.

However, the nature is great in Basko Polje. Long beautiful beaches with few people, lot of shadows under the aromatic pine trees. Walking distance to near places is 30min along the nice walking paths through the woods along the sea side. Beautiful mountain Biokovo is in walking distance away too.

We spent eight days in this hotel in summer 2012. The hotel seems to be really old and simply furnished, but its locations is great. It´s only a short walk, about 50 metres, to a beautiful pebble beach. Breakfasts and dinners were simple, quite good. I am not sure if it´s different now, but when we were there, there was no A/C in rooms, so they tended to get really hot during the day.

There is a campsite behind the hotel. Near is also a small shop, where you can buy basic groceries, although from what I remember it was quite poorly stocked.

It is not far from Baska Voda, which is bigger city, and some other villages and small cities are also pretty close.

There is a bus stop about ten to fifteen minutes from the hotel, where buses to Makarska stop.

I would recommend this hotel to travellers who seek for something cheaper and are not too demanding.

We chose the hotel because it is located close to the beautiful pebbly beach, where you can sunbath or lie in the shade under trees. Also you can go on a boat trip to the Brač directly from Baško Polje. Hotel and its facilities are quite old, but you will not mind if you spend minimum time there...
