I stayed at this hotel as part of a walking group. It’s a great hotel close to the beach. The room was large and comfortable overlooking the sea.
Food was great with a varied menu each evening.
Staff were lovely and looked after us well.
Would definitely return.

We enjoyed a really good HF holiday based from this hotel. It is quite small with 27 rooms and situated across the road from the beach and overlooks the island of brac. A mountain range runs behind the hotel and it is difficult not to take amazing photographs of islands or mountains. The hotel is owned and run by a family with the sons and a small number of staff providing excellent service. The restaurant has an a la carte menu with extensive range of meals available. As part of a large group, we preordered evening meals from a set menu with a daily special and a good selection of other meals, both fish and various meats, pasta and rice. If you enjoy fish meals then the large portions of hake, mackerel or octopus cooked Dalmatian style is hard to beat. The Hot starters and salad bar were also of good standard. (none of the group of 30 got any bug and the standard of hygiene at the hotel appeared to be very good). The room was large, very clean and with a good comfy bed. We paid extra for a better room with a sea view. we had wide views from the third floor over the islands and also the town. This was money well spent and sitting on the balcony in sun is a pleasure. However the view from first and second floor is restricted by the large trees along the seafront. The indoor pool is no bigger than a plunge pool but with a beach and sea 20 metres away it is not very important. The town is modern with bars along the front, boat trips from the harbour and a number of bakeries doing a good selection of rolls and pastries. It is possible to walk for miles along the seafront, beach in either direction with bars provided good value beer and food. A pleasure staying at this resort. The hotel is on a corner of the one way system and sleeping with windows open in rooms near the road is not really an option. However the double glazing and heavy curtains do remove the majority of noise.

We stayed at the Hotel Bacchus on an HF walking holiday. The rooms are a good size with huge bed, sofa and balcony. The air con was working during our stay which was quiet and meant we were not woken by the early morning traffic, dust carts etc. Both breakfast and dinner were excellent with plenty of choice and a choice of meat or fish every evening. There was a massive storm one night and the wifi was unavailable for several days - our only complaint. The beach is just opposite and wasn't too cold to swim in. There is a promenade path in both directions so you can walk south to Makarska, stopping for a swim along the way or to the north where there are plenty of cafes and restaurants for lunch or a coffee/beer stop. Baska Voda is a small and lovely place. We were out walking every day, but I am not sure if I would have wanted to restrict myself to the resort each day.

We booked the hotel as a last minute deal with Thomson. Seeing the pictures we were a little sceptical.. however, on arrival we were pleasantly surprised. I travel alot in business in the typical Hilton/Marriot type accomodation. I can say that the room quality was very comparable. Clean, modern, spacious and a lovely view of the sea. We were blessed with the weather for late October and had a great time. We walked from Baska to Makaska (around 10km) with the kids and saw... ooo.. about 10 people until will got into town. Stunning, truly stunning scenery and clear, crystal calm waters. We were there for a week and the hotel was great. The staff are friendly and efficient. The chef is excellent and whilst the downside is that you pick your food that morning, the quality was really rather good. Baska was pretty quiet and in wind down mode for the winter.. but we like it like that. For a family of 4, (kids 11 and 9) it was a quality holiday and a very, very reasonable price.

We stayed at the hotel Bacchus on a week's walking holiday with HF holidays. The hotel is in a great location just across from the beach which made it ideal for swimming. The bedroom and bathroom were spacious and clean and the balcony overlooked the beach. The food was very good indeed with a great choice every day. The staff were friendly and did everything they could to make our holiday enjoyable. I would stay there again.

Stayed for a week with HF walking group. The hotel is very pleasant, quite homely. It's family run and the staff are very accommodating. Helga who is found in the dining room and behind the bar is particularly helpful. Baska Voda is a lovely little town with a pleasant beach and small marina. Good bakeries and two small supermarkets. But Hotel Bacchus was a relaxing place to return to each night after walking all day. Large spacious rooms, very clean, good bathrooms with powerful showers too.

A small hotel (30 rooms) , the rooms are spacious and clean. The staff are pleasant and helpful. It's in a good position being only a short walk to the plentiful cafes and bars in Baska Voda. It has its own beach which is across the road from the hotel with sunbeds and mattresses supplied by the hotel.
The hotel has a small unappealing indoor swimming pool - when we were there no-one was tempted to use it!
It has an attractive dining room with a sea-facing terrace where the evening meals are served(weather permitting). It has a table d'hote menu and a very extensive a la carte menu. Unfortunately the food is mediocre.
The Hotel Bacchus makes a real effort to make guests welcome and has got so much right that it's a shame the catering lets it down .

We stayed here as part of a tour group. The rooms were clean and very spacious but make sure you get a shower before the hot water runs out! This is a family run business but the staff take a while to warm to their guests. The buffet breakfast is limited and exactly the same everyday including the manufactured biscuits and cake. The dinner can sometimes involve using up any leftovers from previous days. The starters were generally very successful and generally so were the mains although be careful of any fish dishes if you don't like dealing with bones. The dessert "buffet" was simply fruit salad, cheese & crackers (which were very nice), and a thin cake which had a different topping on each night ... If it wasn't very appealing so there was lots left over it would be brought to breakfast the next morning where it was still found unappealing and left by the guests. Overall we felt it was a 3-star hotel trying to be 4-star

Response from bacchus35, stunned at Hotel Villa Bacchus
Responded May 31, 2015
Dear madam, thanks for your comment, which we appreciate, but do not feel real. As far as relations with the guests concerns, it is a maximum of honest and therefore perfectly logical that we need a day or two to make a bond with our guests after we know each other better. During your stay , we had the impression that you are satisfied with our service , and we welcomed this comment very surprised and disappointed . I'm sorry that you find that as a failure. Buffet breakfast is a decent and meaningful, and you will rarely see a waiter service for breakfast in four star hotels, and not only selfservice. But I can understand that for someone may be not enough or do not like, so I respect that. As far as dinner matter it is completley unacceptable to say that we use the remains of before, because in addition to this we can not dot That and it is intolerably because we have the standard of food safety , and would never give our guest anything we wouldnt eat by ourselfs. Also , every day at the buffet there are 5 different types of hot and cold appetizers including main meals , which can't be from the previous days because each day of the week is offered another menu . As for the fish concerns , the only fish with bones is fresh grouper , which stands in a menu that is not a file , even though if you haved asked, our kitchen staff would without any problems remove the bones and made a file . Also, it is not logical to say that the remains of dinner are brought to the breakfast because the menu for the breakfast is completely different, although sometimes when you bake a cake in the evening it can be used the next day in the morning because it was within 12 hours, no longer so completely safe and acceptable. Anyway, thanks for your comment, and a nice greeting from our stuff.

All in all it is a very good hotel, but we found a couple of snags. As another reviewer found the airconditioning unit was inoperative and as we always need to have a window open to get a good night's sleep, we had a problem. The hotel is situated within a corner of Baska's internal one way system and on the Saturday & Sunday nights two-stroke scooters raced around several times resulting in two very broken nights. On enquiring about a room change the seemingly un-caring receptionist suggested that we shut the window. We solved the problem for the remainding nights by having the window closed but the room door propped open.
Also we were surprised to find the jacuzzi devoid of water and covered over. The sauna is not kept heated so one cannot have a casual sauna because it has to be pre-booked. Charges are made for use of both the sauna and the jacuzzi. The small plunge pool was very cold.

The day I arrived I got to my room and it was stifling. I went to turn on the AC unit but nothing happened. I called reception and the owner (I later found out that´s who he was) went into a long explanation about why the AC wasn´t on. They apparently don´t turn it on til the outside temp is over 20 celcius. I then asked if I could have a fan to circulate the air and he put the phone down on me. I called back and asked him politely not to hang up on me again and he said he would come up. He went into the whole explanation again about the AC and when I asked again about a fan he wanted to know why I needed it when I had the door open. His attitude was appallingly condesending.

Well the temp reached about 30 celcius and the AC was never turned on. The owners attitude blighted my whoče stay. It is a real shame because in every other aspect I would have reccommended this hotel. Now I just hope he goes bankrupt.
