This was our favourite hotel of the 6 we stayed in during our 18 day trip to Costa Rica; this is what an Eco Lodge should be. It is positioned high in the cloud forest with superb views from the terrace/restaurant area. There was a log fire which was lit in the evenings when it got cooler due to altitude. The welcome on arrival was great with a fruit cocktail and a lovely member of staff advising of all the useful information regarding the hotel and walks around the grounds. After arrival we walked the short 2km trail around the grounds which allowed us to spot some wildlife. We stayed in a standard king sized room. The room and bathroom were huge with high quality organic toiletries provided in multi use bottles. The room had minimal furniture but had a beautiful feel to it with bedside tables, 2 armchairs and desk and chair. There was storage in the lobby to the room with an area to remove shoes if they were muddy. There was a huge covered veranda with 2 comfy arm chairs. In the morning we often saw wildlife wandering by in front of the veranda. The food was superb - all made from scratch including sourdough bread and greek yogurt. The morning we had a very early start we pre-ordered breakfast the night before so it was ready for start of service at 7am. We ate one night in the Endemica restaurant on site. Although the food was expensive it was superb; fine dining in a casual setting. The bar made superb lemonade and mint cordials which were served like cocktails and very refreshing after a day wildlife spotting. Sitting on the terrace it was easy to see many birds attracted by the bird feeders

Simply outstanding, this boutique eco-lodge has been our favourite hotel so far on our trip. Why? Simply because there is nothing we would wish them to change, it’s pretty much perfect . A great location with fabulous views , wildlife literally outside your balcony with humming birds and other indigenous species welcoming you to spend more time at lunch to drink in the wildlife . The hotel has its own nature trails round the hotel itself where you will undoubtedly come across more wildlife.
The rooms are exceptionally large , appropriately eco-friendly with beautiful linen on the beds , massive bathrooms and fabulous coffee ready to make in room .
Leaving the best to last , the service and food is exceptional, I’ve no idea why you would wish to eat elsewhere as both the kitchen with its innovative menu and the passionate staff serving really make this hotel. My husband and I were blown away by the food, it is of Michelin level standard except the portions are very generous. Amazing service amazing food and and amazing location with wildlife on our doorstep!
We happened to be here over Valentine’s Day and were presented with homemade chocolates as a gift from the hotel. Personal attention to detail with high quality cuisine is what makes this hotel stand out , thank you to all the staff for making this part of our trip one to treasure forever 🥰

Located fantastically in the rainforest near Monteverde. The team is extremely friendly, the food exceptionally good especially by standards in Costa Rica. This is especially true for vegetarian dishes. Similar to a mountain hut, there is a place with a large, open fireplace where you can meet comfortably. The rooms are very clean, the bathroom spacious and functional. The rooms are a bit spartanly furnished, but the beds are very good. Unfortunately, you have to make a cut because the rooms are extremely noisy and the decor is a bit too minimal.

The room is kept clean and well-organized, creating a pleasant and inviting atmosphere. The attention to cleanliness adds a positive touch to the overall stay. However, one notable drawback is the absence of a water heater in the room. This can be inconvenient, especially for guests who prefer the convenience of having hot water readily available.
While the dining area does offer a solution by providing hot water, accessing it is not as straightforward as one might hope. Guests need to navigate through certain procedures or timings to obtain the hot water, which may pose an inconvenience. Furthermore, it's worth mentioning that the dining area is not always open, limiting the accessibility to hot water during specific hours.
In summary, the accommodation impresses with its commitment to cleanliness and organization, contributing to a comfortable stay. However, the lack of a water heater in the room, coupled with the somewhat restricted access to hot water in the dining area, can be factors to consider for guests who prioritize these amenities. Overall, a great option for those who value cleanliness but may require some adjustments for those with specific hot water needs.

So i dont typically write reviews, but this place was absolutely stunning. I love nature, hiking and camping but my spouse is more of a luxury hotel kind of guy. This was the best of both worlds. The location was so quaint and quiet only a few families so it did not feel like a hotel. It was more of a boutique hotel. The food was top notch , like gourmet and though they had a menu. They would accomadate your request. The portions were more than enough and the food was flavorful
The rooms were large, spacious and modern. IT gave cabin feel but with a modern twist. newly remodeled and enough space for the 4 of us. very clean and the balcony was a nice touch.
The grounds, we could see animals all day and all night, we saw coati, monkeys, hummingbirds, and much more. They would join us at every meal or just walking by. The trails were amazing, we could walk through the cloud forest on the reserve on our own and explore nature. there were several options. and we did a night tour with a guide to learn about the pumas and see the noctural animals
But i tell you the best was the customer service. Our absolute favorite was Randell. He treated us like family, he would tell us about the resort and the animals and costa rica, along with places to visit. He made sure every meals was perfect and asked myu girls what they needed. You can tell he has a passion for what he does. he made our stay even more enjoyable. Jessica and Gabrielle were awesome as well. They gave us chocolate ice cream when my daughter turned 8 and was always at our service Words dont do this justice. we had a great time.
If you are looking for a small quaint upscale cabin feel with luxury accommodations in the middle of the cloud forest mountains. This was the place to be. There is no TV or air conditioning, but being so high in the mountains it was actually a nice cool breeze and we needed jackets most days in july. WE sat n ear the fire pit every night . And there is no need for. a tv when you are surrounded by the nature beauty. we stayed at 3 places and was in costa rica for 2 weeks and by far this is my favorite.

The ecolodge is, as name stipulates, located high up in the forest. The access, from the town of Santa Elena, is via very steep road, graveled towards the end.
Welcoming juice drink was a nice touch.
There are forest walks around the lodge as well as a zipwire experience. If you are taking the longer, canopy trail make sure to wear sturdy shoes as the ground is very uneven. The reception has a range of ponchos and walking sticks that you can borrow for walks.
Accommodation is in spacious chalets scattered around the centre ground of the facility.
Our Euphonia Deluxe Suite was huge but sparsely furnished. We had large twin beds with comfortable mattresses, a couple of armchairs and a table. The wardrobe was located in the hallway. There was a terrace overlooking the centre of the lodge grounds, but cold or inclement weather limits its use somewhat.
There were no tea/coffee-making facilities nor TV. WiFi signal was good.
The bathroom was equally vast, with walk-in shower in one corner and His & Hers sinks opposite. Bathrobes were provided.
We dined one night at the Endémica Restaurant. The menu was limited and quality quite average with a small choice of wines. The crackling wood burner in the middle created a homely atmosphere. The following day we ate at the Orchid Restaurant in town and the fare was very acceptable there.
Breakfast was served in the dining room, with nice views over the forest. We were encouraged to pre-order our dishes as, apparently, preparation was quite lengthy.
Staff were very friendly and helpful.
Overall, an interesting though very expensive experience for the limited services offered.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback about your recent stay at our lodge and dining experience at our Endémica Restaurant. We appreciate your detailed review. Our team takes great pride in providing guests with opportunities to explore and connect with the natural beauty of the surrounding area through the trails of our own private reserve. Climate can be cold, misty or rainy depending on the season, so it is important to pack accordingly. About the road conditions, we would like to clarify that it is paved until the entrance to our property. Within our property, which is a private reserve, it is a gravel road. Regarding your comments about the furnishings, we will take it into consideration as we strive to continually improve our guest experience. We do want to state that we don’t have TVs in any of our rooms since at Cloud Forest Lodge and our sister properties, we want guests to experience connecting with nature. Regarding coffee makers in our rooms, we have recently added them, due to the feedback from our guests. Our website has a description of what our rooms include. We're sorry to hear that you found the menu options at Endémica Restaurant to be limited and the quality average. Your feedback is valuable to us, and we will review our offerings to ensure that we are meeting the expectations of our guests. Despite the shortcomings you experienced, we're pleased to hear that our staff were friendly and helpful throughout your stay. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future to the cloud forest of Monteverde.

This is a beautiful hotel and I love that they have a focus on conservation. We had an incredible cabin (#25!) which included a king bed and 3 twin beds for each of our children. The room was immaculate and we had a very large outdoor covered porch. The view was of the jungle, it would have been nice to have more of a view, but we were busy with other activities and the serenity of the terrace was lovely in our downtime. If I had any specific feedback it would be that a mini fridge would be a nice convenience and with the size of the bathroom (it was enormous!) it would have been nice to have the toilet enclosed so more than one person could use the bathroom at the same time.
Shout out to the front desk staff who were incredible. So friendly, welcoming and efficient. They had great insight on restaurants and having a line to them via WhatsApp when we were in town was a plus. These guys clearly wanted to help make our stay the best it could be.
Breakfast was included in our stay and I’m still thinking about the French toast which was delicious but everything we ate was fantastic (we tried it all -pancakes, French toast, breakfast burrito, omelette, breakfast sandwich). The kids had hot chocolate every morning and it was hands down the best I’ve ever tasted. The bird feeders were a nice addition - we ate breakfast amid hummingbirds and so many other birds I could not keep track. We ate dinner there one night and it was also delicious. Wine seemed a bit expensive. Service was great, Wilmar was a friendly face there both at breakfast and dinner.
The hotel is down a steep and winding dirt road, walking to town would not be advisable and it would be the one con to the hotel (depending on your priorities - trade off for a very quiet environment set in the forest). If I returned I would consider trying the sister hotel Monteverde Lodge which I think would be walkable to Santa Elena.
Beds and pillows were so comfortable, almost like being at home in my own bed.
We didn’t do the zip lining canopy tour on the property but it looked like a good spot to try it!

This lodge is amazing. We traveled across Lake Arenal to this lodge and the temperature difference was incredible. The Cloud Forest Lodge is tucked away from the friendly city of Monteverde, it almost feels as if you have the whole Cloud Forest to yourself. Upon arriving we were greeted by very friendly staff members and met the tremendous Vanessa (who was an incredible help with all things Monteverde and just a wonderful person) who brought us to the dining area, presented us with drinks, and brought us on a tour of the Lodge. Rooms are beautiful and spacious, with walk-out decks that immerse you in the surrounding wildlife (we saw three Coati in the first half-hour). The dining experience was superb and very affordable. We always chose the eat at the outside area and watch the hummingbirds.

This hotel is a gem, tucked on a hillside with wonderful views towards the Pacific Ocean. The rooms are spacious, beds very comfortable and huge bathrooms with walk in shower and double sink. There is a large balcony with comfy chairs, a safe and clothes hanging space. The rooms are joined in a terrace with covered walkway at the back which is handy as it does rain in the cloud forest. The restaurant building is a delight, wooden walls, a beautiful log fire area to relax in the evenings and a glass fronted balcony above for sunny days, again with wonderful views and a firepit. The staff were so friendly and attentive. We stayed in 6 hotels on this trip and this one was my favourite. The hotel was recently taken over by the Bueno group who have plans to add a pool.
