Casa Tranquilo is a beautiful hostel with a kitchen and social area which made you feel at home, perfect to hang out. The staff were really friendly, genuinely helpful and not just trying to sell tours (they helped us do all the free stuff too!). Breakfast in the morning was the best Gallo pinto in Costa Rica, and the best... More

This staff was so helpful in everything. They were friendly, gave us great recommendations of places to hike to and eat at, drew out maps and detailed directions, and even washed our clothes for us. The beds were not very comfy (but rarely do you even find a hostel with nice beds, the showers were ice cold which was unfortunate... More

This is the best hostel we stayed in Costa Rica. Its close to everything in that area. we stayed in a 8 mans dorm and the dorm had everything we needed, it even had good water pressure in the shower which was not commen in other hostels we stayed in :P. The price was cheap and it had a good... More

Casa Tranquilo is a simple road side joint with adjoining vege restaurant. The walls are thin, room 3 has the added misfortune of being next to the tv lounge. No fan so hot during the day but really you'd be out all day anyway so no bother. Noisy dogs everywhere will wake you up, usual morons on dirt bikes and... More

I have never stayed in a worse hostel. The staff was more interested in flirting with girls, the room and bathroom were infested with huge spiders, and sleeping there was nearly impossible. The roof isn't made of wood, more like a plastic covering that doesn't even cover the entire ceiling. When the wind blows, the trees above bang on the... More

A friend and I stayed for a couple of nights in a private/shared bath room. The staff was helpful, generally friendly, and told us about free/cheap things to do in the area and helped us figure out transportation. The room was good (my friend preferred the term "cute"), the bathroom and shower were fine, and the common areas very nice.... More

We stayed for 3 nights in February when the weather was particularly bad (gusting, howling winds, driving rain) which did not make our stay comfortable. Due to the nature of the building (no insulation, windows not properly fitted etc.) it didn't stand up well to the elements, meaning the corridor outside our room was filled with puddles, our bed got... I stayed here for 3 days while I explored the Monteverde Cloud Forest and adorable town of Santa Elena. There was plenty to do, but I was content to just relax at the hostel, as there are many places to chill out. The dorms are clean and nice, there's a big kitchen with coffee. The staff has lots of info... More

Don't go by guidebook descriptions. Make your decision by the price of the rooms. You get what you pay for. There are no views from any room except the dormitory rooms above the restaurant apparently, I was told, although I did not go there. Casa Tranquilo is on the main road into town and traffic noise exists as the building... More

Nice place and generally helpful staff who help you organise tours or check buses (one guy was not so friendly at check-in, smiling is a hard job for some people) I stayed only for one night and moved on to Nosara from there. Rooms were clean, very basic. Wifi you only catch at reception and guest area not the dorm... More
