As it is at the corner of the beach, best location to enjoy the beach. Not very crowded and super wide beach. Buffet is not the best, very limited options available. Bar is nice and since it is in the beach you can enjoy a drink on the beach. Altogether , super experience

My Husband and I spent five very relaxing days at this resort. We were afforded the utmost courtesy and respect. An outstanding bunch of staff including Anil the master swimming instructor, Lakmal the Yoga-master,Restaurant staff. Nishantha,, Pradeep and the group, the best hoppers ( a Sri Lankan Pancake) dished out by maestro Kumara , excellent house-keeping by Ajith, Gayan, even...

Stayed here for one night two days ago and this was one too many. The only beer was canned and expensive. Room on ground floor small and in full view from restaurant and reception and no nets. The curtains were disgusting . The food choice was poor and he worst hotel stay on our tour. The staff had no idea...

We had lunch at the melt bistro in the Calamander Hotel, the restaurant looked very stylish and the toilets immaculate. But we felt the beers to be overpriced and the grouper fish lunch, while Ok, was not special, the fish was a bit on the small side for our liking. I am sure you can find better value on Unawatuna...

The property is great, with easy beach access. Our rooms were also lovely, the highlight being the Jacuzzi. Breakfast spread was rather poor, and options for Lunch & Dinner catered more to bland continental food than local Sri-lankan food, which was our only pet peeve, but we managed to get some mouth watering food from other restaurants on the beach...

We were very unimpressed by this hotel. On arrival, we were shown a more expensive room than we had booked and asked if we would like to upgrade. We took the more expensive room and were immediately asked to hand over cash for the difference in price between this and the original room booked. I asked if this could be...

We stayed in a deluxe double room with a garden view but unfortunately the room had no garden view and it was quite smaller than we expected. Also the view was horrible. The room had an extra bed even though we did not ask for it. So it took 1.5 hours and 4 calls to room service to remove the...

Reading some of the negative reviews, I am wondering if it is the same resort that we were in. We were treated with the utmost courtesy and respect. The staff were extremely courteous. Anil, Lakmal, Rohan(animation dept), Pradeep, Chrishantha,Thilina and chef Kumara (makes the best hoppers we have eaten) at the restaurant were outstanding. Even the house-keeping staff Ajith, Gayan...

I'll keep this as short as I can. This hotel boasts sea and garden views. Through our trip organisor, we booked 2 Super Deluxe rooms for 6 nights. Our rooms turned out to be ground floor, at the back of the reception, with a small triangle of grass, and a wall between that and the carpark. There was a walkway...

This hotel is 6 years old and is in a beachside location. The beach is good for walking and swimming. The pools are lovely and clean. The rooms are small - we were moved to a slightly larger room as the lock on our door was broken on our arrival. The curtains were not clean and the standard of decor...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Calamander Unawatuna Beach is one of Sri Lanka's most popular beach resorts, located directly on Unawatuna Bay. The most renowned holiday destination on the South coast, Unawatuna Beach is famous for its natural beauty, laid back ambience, proximity to Galle Fort, a Unesco World Heritage site, and is the best beach in the country. UBR, established over 30 years ago, has been transformed, since November 2011, as Calamander Unawatuna Beach. The resort retains the relaxed character of the former UBR, the excellent service from long standing staff, good food and al fresco dining. The only hotel on Unawatuna Beach with swimming pools, Calamander Unawatuna Beach has built the first glass fronted lap pool in Sri Lanka and the longest, at 25 metres, in the Asia Pacific region. In addition a stunning Italian mosaic, 25 metres in length, outdoor pool, with adjoining jacuzzi and a separate children's paddling pool. Calamander Unawatuna Beach is a 4 star class hotel with five star facilities. It is the first beach hotel in Sri Lanka with accredited carbon neutral status and future projects aim to develop sustainable eco-technology in the hotel's power generation and transport services. Guests are encouraged to engage in utilising the resort's facilities in the most eco-friendly way, without compromising on comfort and are invited to offset their individual carbon foot print with a small, voluntary, financial contribution, to the hotel's carbon neutral status. Calamander Unawatuna Beach is a trail blazer in Sri Lanka, for the 'affordable luxury' concept. Its design ethos of modernity, complimenting the beauty of its geography, has proven to be popular with our guests from all over the world. This together with high standards of service, Calamander Unawatuna Beach is now renowned for being a family friendly resort welcoming Sri Lankans as well as foreign guests. ... more   less
