THis hotel is set slightly to the left hand side (looking out to sea) of the beautiful curved cove of Unawatuna Beach. It is beautiful setting and I believe offers the only pools at hotels on the beach. Two beautiful pools, one was great for children with gentle steps to get in and the other a deeper large lap pool....

Spent 3 nights at Calamander and regretted the decision on day 1 itself. At check-in, a form was given (although the booking confirmation was provided) and then ignored as a fairer skinned individual arrived at attention was given to that person. The selection / variety of food available was very poor. It was also the same menu on all 3...

Location Location and not much else going for it sums it all well. Great beach, great looking place, wonderful sea and a disappointment for the hotel I arrived with high hopes, the same owners run Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf (CBTL) Sri Lanka -- I am a huge CBTL fan going between various CBTL outlets and sometimes making multiple visits...

We ate at their beach side dining location and were glad we did. I selected one of the fresh fish they have on display on ice. The fish was listed as "mullet" which in Australia is a lower grade fish, but it was in fact a good quality reef fish. It was amazing value a 1.2kg fish grilled and served...

I just checked into this hotel for 3 nights. Our room (room # 218) is very odd in shape; bed is in separate room (kind of triangular) and the bathroom and television are kind of outside (another triangular) . You cannot watch TV from your bed if you want to. Curtains are just the width of window so the light...

My partner and I spent 10 days on calamander during late December and early January. We had booked a larger room, so called luxary room or a junior suite. the reason we chose this place was that we would get the seaside view. upon arrival the room was not as expected and we were placed at the bottom in a...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Calamander Unawatuna Beach is one of Sri Lanka's most popular beach resorts, located directly on Unawatuna Bay. The most renowned holiday destination on the South coast, Unawatuna Beach is famous for its natural beauty, laid back ambience, proximity to Galle Fort, a Unesco World Heritage site, and is the best beach in the country. UBR, established over 30 years ago, has been transformed, since November 2011, as Calamander Unawatuna Beach. The resort retains the relaxed character of the former UBR, the excellent service from long standing staff, good food and al fresco dining. The only hotel on Unawatuna Beach with swimming pools, Calamander Unawatuna Beach has built the first glass fronted lap pool in Sri Lanka and the longest, at 25 metres, in the Asia Pacific region. In addition a stunning Italian mosaic, 25 metres in length, outdoor pool, with adjoining jacuzzi and a separate children's paddling pool. Calamander Unawatuna Beach is a 4 star class hotel with five star facilities. It is the first beach hotel in Sri Lanka with accredited carbon neutral status and future projects aim to develop sustainable eco-technology in the hotel's power generation and transport services. Guests are encouraged to engage in utilising the resort's facilities in the most eco-friendly way, without compromising on comfort and are invited to offset their individual carbon foot print with a small, voluntary, financial contribution, to the hotel's carbon neutral status. Calamander Unawatuna Beach is a trail blazer in Sri Lanka, for the 'affordable luxury' concept. Its design ethos of modernity, complimenting the beauty of its geography, has proven to be popular with our guests from all over the world. This together with high standards of service, Calamander Unawatuna Beach is now renowned for being a family friendly resort welcoming Sri Lankans as well as foreign guests. ... more   less
