We were staying in the cabin or cabana or whatever you want to call it right at the beach! We could see turtles from our room. At the restaurant you can order whatever you want at anytime which was really convenient for us and the staff and the family was very nice :) The curry (you have to order it... More

Perfect location, outstanding food, very friendly staff. Rooms a little dark but all have verandahs. Amazing to have breakfast and watch turtles swimming in the ocean just a few metres away. Cheap tuk tuk service available. Great place all round.

Ratana Guesthouse is a 100%-local place. The family lives here since 36 years and rebuilt this place after the Tsunami in 2004. They are really helpful in organizing trips and transport. The curry is by far the best I have tried in Sri Lanka. The place itself is being renewed now b/c its low season. The restaurant is really nice... More

I came here to try a breakfast because a friend had recommended it. I got here wanting to try a Sri Lankan breakfast and they told me they were only doing cereal and curd. Bit disappointed after I walked 20min in the rain from my own guesthouse. They eventually offered me a Western breakfast which I kindly accepted, but not... More

Rathna is a small guesthouse on the Dalawella bay - like a 'home-away-from-home' and the family who run the place have always welcomed us in a really warm and generous way. My wife and our family have stayed there on several occasions and really enjoyed their hospitality. The kids really enjoy the food and the constant access to the beach... More

We coudn't sleep here because the Guesthouse was all booked out (so it may be to suggest to book in advance) but we ate at the restaurant. The food was delicious and fresh. The location is perfect: Directly on the beach, so it is perfect to sit there and watch the sunset while you eat something!

The owner point blank told me he doesn't let locals in because they steal and harass women. I'm a local and I had to really argue to get my reserved room. In the end he explained he had problems with foreigners partying too much and one guest having stuff stolen, police not being helpful but it's inexcusable that locals are... More

Booking.com somehow managed to book us into a hotel 100 kilometres away ( that had The same name ) and we turned up in heavy rain to Rathna expecting a room, the owner was very courteous and explained this had happened only 2 days before however called his cousin and tried to find us a room elsewhere. We ended up... More

I booked Rathna guesthouse a week in advance through trip advisor and booking.com On arrival that claimed that they did not receive the booking and that it was a different place. Their story kept changing. If you want to book here, don't do it through this website, but go there in person.

What a find! There are a number of beach huts right on the beach so you can wake to the sight of the waves. Rathna has a good restaurant jutting out over the beach, it serves cold beer and has WIFI. The staff were all lovely. The rooms big with a fridge and a safe. They can easily fit an... More
