Just endured a 2 night stay here, really don't understand the glowing reviews. Having travelled around Sri Lanka for the last 3 weeks we had become accustomed to a warm reception and welcome drink irrespective of the "budget" of the hotel (Beach Villa was at the upper end of our budget) upon arrival the owner did not say a word to myself and my partner for over an hour, despite asking how long until our room would be ready (luckily a German family asked and got a reply of 20 mins). The room itself was pretty grim. Towel smelt of urine, bin hadn't been emptied, floor was dirty, fridge was disgusting, mould present on walls and ceilings. Bed was ok. The location is ok. There is a nice swimming area nearby, but beach immediately outside hotel isn't suitable for swimming. There is a very busy road outside with the near constant din of traffic. Breakfast was the worst we've had with unripe fruit and uncooked eggs. Past reviews happily mention the puppies, but the owner doesn't seem concerned with their welfare; the mother is malnourished despite lactating, and we witnessed one puppy fall about 3m to the beach below with no staff even noticing this had taken place. Can't help but feel the puppies are there as an attraction rather than as a pet and doubt they will receive the correct diet once they're weaned (didn't see the dogs being fed and they beg constantly). Breakfast time is restricted (8:30 - 10:30) so if you want to head out early it's not convenient. The tables were also still dirty from the previous evening. Air con in room was intermittent and on occasion even turned of the mains. Toilet leaking. Decor in dire need of updating.

I've read the online reviews on booking.com before I decided to try out this hotel and I have to say I find them quite unfair. In the end I stayed for 17 days and I just loved it. The beach is clean and lovely and there is a reef for snorkelling, there is a surf beach just before Galle where I learned to surf and there's a lot of sights that are a short tuk tuk ride from the hotel. Also the staff was very friendly. I've stayed in one of the newly refurbished upstairs rooms which were very clean, the bathroom was brand new. Breakfast was always plenty. If you're on a tight budget you can book a fan room which has also sea views and if you need AC, you need to pay about 12 US$ more per night. I found the room rate cheap for what I got, I stayed in worse Hotels in Sri Lanka paying a lot more. I will be back!

We booked in for two days at the end of our 14 day cycling holiday in Sri Lanka. What a perfect place, quiet and peaceful, large bedroom and breakfast brought up on a tray to eat overlooking the beach. Lovely Tuk Tuk man just outside Villa, it’s a short trip into Fort Galle.

Even though this family run guest house is situated right by the main road, one hears nothing and falls asleep with ghee sound of the waves washing up on the beach. A friendly family that makes sure you are feeling comfortable during your stay. First row to the oceans means that you will literally fall out of bed and onto the beach. Constructively I would mention that for the price charged, I would expect fresh towels and bed sheets every morning. The room was clean however and the AC worked just fine. I will be back.
