So i really cant tell you much about the property as we basically were not welcome here. We had booked this property at the end of March for 2 nights. April 18 and 19. At the beginning of April we recieved a phone call from the owner cancelling our reservation. As the reservation was made thru booking.com we asked him to cancel it on his end as we would be charged the full amount. After some discussion he said not to worry and come as planned. Two days prior to our arrival we contacted the property to make sure that they were still expecting us, we were advised yes they were. Upon arrival we were greeted by a lady with the look of disgust on her face. She told us that she was not expecting us and that the room we booked was occupied. She placed a call to someone in regards to us being there and did not hide the fact of her disapproval and making remarks about us foreigners. Within 5 minutes a male arrived and was just as pleasant. Fortunately for us we were with someone who spoke the language. Basically i stated to this male "its obvious you dont want us staying here so just cancel our booking on your end, once we get our email confirmation of cancellation we will leave". Our friend told us not to even consider staying there as he was concerned about what was being said. Bottom line is this could have all been easily taken care of with them officially cancelling the booking at the beginning. But we wasted time going there and then having to find other accommodations. I would not recommend this property they like your money but not you! Personal safety is key!!

Room was small but ok. Bed was ok but sheets were not fitted well and kept slipping and bunching. No hot water as promised and cold water was just a trickle. Staff was nice but lack of English was a challenge and I don't speak Sinhala unfortunately. The WiFi passwords in the room were flipped...you had to use Casa 1 for Casa 2 and vice versa, but no one told us when checking in, just showed the paper. I couldn't find any staff on property the night I realized this, so waited until the next morning and they explained it. I asked why they just didn't print up a new paper with password under correct sign in and they said it was senior management's decision. When I told the manager about it, instead of saying, ok, we will fix it, he argued with me. Not sure exactly what his point was, since his English was hard to understand. When I checked out, they insisted I check out at 10:30 because a new guest was coming. I packed and left bags at reception while having breakfast out and when I returned and asked to use the toilet, they told me to just use my old room. They rushed me out for no reason, after all. Most hotels would say, "no problem" and give a late check out. I only needed until about 11:30. The breakfast was tasty with the best bread I've had so far in Sri Lanka, but when I told them I didn't want a smoothie because I don't want milk and could I just have the fruit instead, they said yes, but charged me extra...not sure why, since I actually saved them the milk cost. There were 3 old soaps in the shower, which made me wonder how well the room had been cleaned. The view was nice and staff were friendly, just not efficient at all. They don't take credit cards, so make sure you take enough cash.

Great place to stay if you want to stay somewhere basic with a sea view. Staff are really friendly and offer lots of assistance when asked. The breakfast or coconut roti, dahl, Sri Lankan omelette, banana and honey was tasty and copious. The clay huts are cute and made from sustainable material but due to the location near the sea and the small size of the room, there is a bit of damp. The beach is a vertical walk away along a hilly road with resident friendly stray dogs and mind-their-business local monkeys. Caution must be taken at the beach in hiriketeya. Although the bay is very inviting, there are no life guards and we were quickly pulled out to sea by a current and had to be rescued by surfers!
